  1. The problem is Fox doesnt trust Gould, so he was looking for a good reason to get a different kicker. He missed two extra points in the last preseason game. Fox went to Pace and asked, can we get a new kicker now? He is the second highest paid kicker in the league and probably ranked around 15- 20. It was just time to go. They dont think this is a SB type team this year so time to change to the future and grab back 2.9 mil. It is easy to see why this happened.
  2. I think it is a combination of many thinks. There are 3 OLineman with contracts up this year and they will not be able to pay all of them. They have been drafting OL the last few years and you have to transition to younger at some point in time.
  3. Yes I totally agree, it is about getting better for tomorrow not necessarily for today.
  4. He has more upside that Mariani, because of his injuries last year, people forget how good he was the year before he came here. You have to deal with the moment , not presume someone will be injured. It may happen anyways but go with the better player for now.If Royal bets hurt they will bring in Braveman, he is on the practice squad.
  5. I suspect they keep him until they seen someone they liked, but I dont have a problem with this, he had a lousy preseason and was definity not as good last year for us. If i remember we lost two games because of him last year.
  6. Even though we have a solid rookie in Whitehair, Sitton is a total upgrade, besides Longs injury could end his season at any time, so this is a great addition to the team. Let Whitehair get his lumps early and then if Long blows up we at least have Larson to fill in. Great move, Sitton was 2nd team probowl last year and its hard to say why GB let him go but I suppect they are looking to the future.I would guess Rodgers didnt like the move.
  7. Instead of being cut , he was traded, no go for Bears.
  8. you are right it is a youth movement but you cant always fit the program with undrafted free agents to just fill a spot, sometimes you have to fit a position with a competent player, it is not a perfect plan. It one season you can never fill all weaknesses so you have some spare parts you have to use to get where you need to go. It will take 3 drafts to get most of our depth to be a competent team.
  9. Peanut retired, there was no keeping him. Slausen didnt fit the blocking system even thou I did not like to see him go. Forte is on the downhill slide, you need to let go of the past and see what there are going to do here. The reason we are bringing older DBs in is because we have injuries and that is all that is out there. Some people on here just want to keep reliving the past. Peanut was my favorite Bear for many years but I understand why we let him go.In Carolina, he played but was injured. With age you have more susceptible to a bad body. Forte wanted a big paycheck and is on the downhill slide. I hope he does well but I suspect he will be pedestrian and hurt alot. It was time for him to go. Good teams dont pay old players they get rid of them the year before they fall off the cliff, not pay them to fall. I like everything this regime is doing trying to get better. People hang on to old heroes and for what? Last time I checked we have not been very good for a very long time. Lets look to the future.
  10. The first team looked good, the subs not so much. Its progress
  11. That is one of the pluses in this regime, they see what we see and keep turning the roster over until they get it right. The roster was in such bad shape when they took over, it will take one more draft class and FAgency to finally get to a competitive team. I wish it was different but that is the reality of todays Bears team.
  12. my opinion of the Bears will not be based on this performance, better to know what you need to work on now than be disillusioned with a preseason win.
  13. they will figure it out, how about Will Montgomery? at least as a backup
  14. injures are a part of football, some more key than others, it does suck when we finally put people in place to develop and then one gets hurt. Not devastating but stunts our growth on the oline.
  15. They will only keep two slot WRs, I suspect it will be Braveman and Royal, maybe Mariani fills one of the outside back up roles.
  16. The TE spot is going to be a problem so might as where figure the FB to cover the lack of in TE.
  17. I agree that would be a good comparison.Never gave that a thought before.
  18. Bennett had his best years in his career playing with Culter, and then screws him over. Anybody that wanted Bennett still here, this is why he had to go, its mememe
  19. We have young players in place to do that job, age is the equalizer when all good players, he's done.
  20. McPhee isnt going anywhere, it is just a matter of health. They will not let good players get away. They will just bring Floyd along slower, if Young and Houston play well and McPhee stays healthy.
  21. This is a quite curious year for the offense, Fox will want to run, but the strength is in the passing game. With two studs wide outs, and Royal and Bravemen underneath, we could pick teams apart.
  22. If he stays healthy they pay him, if not we move on. I think the key to all of this is White shining and I think that will happen. AJ has not been much of a team player so he may not be a great fit going forward. Fox likes team players and he is all about himself. So a lot will be answered after this year. If Royal can stay healthy this year, he will have a very good year similar to two years ago. I think if Braveman shows anything this will be Royals last year, the desire to be younger will continue.
  23. I think they are preparing for Whitehair and Grassu to not quite being ready and are hedging those choices. It never hurts to have good depth, something we didnt have last year.
  24. One of my favorite Bears, glad I got to watch him with a long career. Thank you Charles.
