  1. You'll rarely ever see a team go into a season with no less than 24 on one side of the ball. During the season the numbers will change based on need and injuries, but usually going into the season, most teams have 25 O, 25 D, and 3 ST (even though several of the players on O and D are ST players mainly). We are definitely going to carry 3 QB's, and Basanez looks like an almost lock for the 3 spot. As for AP, I'm not big on him, but we all know with Lovie as the HC, AP will be on the team. And it's never a terrible thing to have 4 RB's with the amount of injuries that happen at that position. Just look at Denver last year. They had like 7 RB's injured.
  2. Every year we see someone on the Lions idiotically predict the playoffs for them. It's one thing to be confident and believe you will, but when you make statements like "We weren't far off, and we will definitely make the playoffs this year" you go directly into the douchebag file.
  3. It is because of this offseason that has convinced me that the only way JA loses his job next year is if the whole team completely bombs and we (well, not actually us) pick in the top 5 next year. However, if we got 7-9 or 8-8 and miss the playoffs again, I think Lovie is gone for sure.
  4. Who's gonna be the 25 on O in the final roster? QB: Cutler | Hanie | Basanez RB: Forte | Jones | Wolfe | Peterson FB: McKie | Gaines (TE) TE: Olsen (WR) | Clark | Davis WR: Hester | Bennett | Iglesias | Davis | Knox OT: Pace (LT) | Williams (RT) | Shaffer OG: Omiyale (LG) | Garza | Buenning | Beekman C: Kreutz Works for me. Hopefully we just stack the practice squad with D and O lineman.
  5. I'll laugh if this does happen... But than I will be sad once I realized we lost Olsen... but happy again once I realize that we have Q!
  6. I got no problem with the endzone fade to Olsen. It can be an effective play if the matchup is there. And the quick out screen to Hester ain't bad. Only thing is you gotta teach Hester how to run it, and use it in the correct situations.
  7. If anything, I think it shows that Lance Louis didn't do much during the mini camp to impress coaches, as he was being looked at in the same roles.
  8. He's 6'4", 277, so it looks like we want more of a bigger blocking FB...
  9. I wouldn't mind it. One of our biggest mistakes last year, IMO, was letting Ayanbadejo walk.
  10. I don't really disagree with you much. This has been a hell of an offseason for us. If we don't make the playoffs this year, I'd be willing to bet we'll be looking for a new coach next year. Jerry Angelo has done his work this offseason, it's time for Lovie to produce.
  11. How is Melton the worst? He was a very solid pick at that point.
  12. I think Ta'ufo'ou has a shot at making the team ahead of McKie. I would have prefered Southerland, but I like Ta'ufo'ou. He's his highlight tape... The only think I'm not a big fan of is all the cut blocks. I'd prefer to see him pancake people, but he might have been told to cut block instead.
  13. I would have offered our 2nd or 3rd next year as well as our 2nd this year to the Cardinals for Boldin
  14. Tyrell Fenroy looks pretty jacked: In the video I saw of him, he looks more quick and shifty though, and he's actually around 205-210 lbs., but he doesn't shy away from contact. I love it when you see a player with the cowboy collar. Usually those guys like to knock people out.
  15. Oh, I really like that pickup. Very similar to Matt Cassel in that he was a top recruit out of high school but never got a shot to start because of the players ahead of them, but decided to stay. He's got great size, some mobility, and I've heard he's got a great arm. Maybe he can win the 3rd QB job, and we can groom him for the next 3+ years, and turn him into potential trade bait. So far this is my favorite UDFA pickup.
  16. According to Mike Lombardi, during the 2nd round, the Bears and Cards were in trade talks regarding Boldin, but the Cards backed out. This really shows how committed JA and Lovie are to winning now, and makes me think that they were both given notice that this year is their last shot and if they fail to make the playoffs, their asses would be gone. I wonder if Q and the Cards are still butting heads near the time training camps begin, could we see us send some future draft picks their way for Q? Most likely not gonna happen, but one can only hope.
  17. It's the 7th round. Get over it. It's basically like a priority UDFA signing period.
  18. We signed our first guy: WR Eric Peterman, Northwestern Doesn't have the physical tools, but has a lot of heart and is one of those players who makes the players around him better. Most likely a PS guy, but I just hate to rule guys like him out. Also, I forgot about Mitch King. I'd love to add him. You gotta love those guys like him who aren't as talented as others, but have the heart and drive to succeed. King was a terror during the senior bowl, and some thought he could jump into the 2nd.
  19. Three guys I'd like us to sign are Graham Gano, Brannan Southerland, and Jamarko Simmons. I'd be happy with one, but ecstatic with all 3. OFFICIAL SIGNINGS: WR Eric Peterman (Northwestern) OL Dennis Conley (Hampton) S Dahana Deletson (UConn) FB Will Taufoou (Cal) LB Mike Rivera (Kansas) RB Tyrell Fenroy (UL-Lafayette) DT Steve Ostrowski (UW-Whitewater)
  20. I was just replying to the original thought, not you. Pretty stupid move by Seattle though. They went from having the best linebacking core in the NFL to basically using the 4th overall pick just to upgrade one LB who was already really good. It would have made a whole lot more sense to go with a LT or Crabtree there instead. I liked the Curry pick at first because it really made that linebacking core sick, and improved that D, but now, it seems pretty pointless. Curry will be a stud, but from all accounts, they want to win now, and making a move like that just doesn't make a whole lotta sense, IMO.
  21. I like it. From what I've heard, he'll likely never be the same again after his injury, but he's gonna have something to prove and will likely be at 110% all the time.
  22. These two situations are not even close to being the same. Curry was the 4th overall pick and will be making around 50 million dollar, Fletcher was a 3rd round pick who will likely be playing corner. And that's just one difference.
  23. I think Vasher will be given the whole season, unless he just bombs during camp. I think we drafted Moore mainly just on value and not as a replacement, although he could be in the future. As for Steltz, I think he's a lock to make the team based on his heart, football IQ, and special teams ability. And he's a decent backup. He's got pretty good speed for his size as well. His problem is he has stiff hips and isn't really good in coverage.
  24. With us adding Moore, I think the pretty much secures Bowman staying at FS. Right now, we got 12 DB's with a legit shot at making the team, with us carrying 11 at the most. Lets see: Tillman, Vasher, Graham, McBride, Moore, Manning, Payne, Bullocks, Earl, Steltz, Bowman, and Afalava. Right now, I'd say we might IRedshirt Afalava and/or Bowman to make room. Also, Earl will be on the cutting block if he doesn't show much in training camp.
