    UDFAs

This is just my personal list of guys I'd contact if I were Emery: OT Tiny Richardson DT Kelcy Quarles CB Marcus Roberson LB Christian Jones DE Jackson Jeffcoat S Craig Loston WR Brandon Coleman WR Mike Davis CB Louichez Purifoy CB Chris Davis LB Jonathan Brown S Dion Bailey S Kenny Ladler DT Anthony Johnson LB Shayne Skov RB Isaiah Crowell RB Rajion Neal OT James Hurst C Tyler Larsen TE Colt Lyera TE AC Leonard TE Trey Burton
  2. This would be awesome. Like you said, there is some great depth at DT (a rare thing) this year. If we could snag a top safety in the 1st and then they decided to go DT-DT in the 2nd and 3rd, I'd be more than okay with that. In answer to your original question, I'd be fine with DT-DT if the 2nd rounder is an absolute steal (where someone fell unexpectedly). I wouldn't be fine if they overdraft another DT who likely could have been had later on (or just wasn't a good value at 51).
  3. To be fair, Johnson's big knock is actually his speed. He's improved it a lot, but he still struggles in coverage because he can't keep up with TE's or RB's. He is a tackling machine, though, like you pointed out. And he's a smart player who calls the defense. I'm a huge Tennessee fan so I've seen every one of Johnson's games over the last 3 years. 4th-5th round is exactly where he should be projected to go, as of now. He made huge strides in our last 4 games, though. Lots of football people say that if he can put together an entire Senior year like that, then he could improve his stock to 2nd-3rd round. I think he ultimately comes back for his Senior year. Anyway, I just wanted to add a little insight from someone who's seen as much of AJ as anyone.
  4. I like Franklin a lot, but as a UDFA type. He has been injured several times in his career, and has a lot to improve on. But I love his skill set. Would be a great 3rd/practice squad guy. For the 1st time in history, I feel confident in the Bears having a coach who can develop a QB.
  5. Couldn't have said it better myself... I was just about to post something very similar to this b/c everyone keeps talking about Asomugha, but it's not happening.
  6. Trade whatever it takes to move into the Top 10 and take... Eric Berry Though, I'd prefer he stay at UT and come out in 2011
  7. I really feel bad for Oakland fans. Al Davis is a dumbass... Hello, Troy Williamson 2.0.
  8. Overall, a phenomenal draft.
  9. One of my favorite days of the year. I'm a year-round draft follower, so this is like Christmas for me. I'm going to wake up around 1 on Saturday and watch draft coverage all day long. I'll eat whatever is easiest to make to maximize the amount of time watching TV, so I'll probably be making peanut butter sandwiches or something like that.

    Sleeper FS pick

As someone who hasn't missed a Tennessee home game in 3 years, I'd say that Willingham would be a good pickup no earlier than the 5th round. He played very well for us all season (as for that Alabama game: who didn't Jones abuse this year?), but would definitely be a project. He was a JUCO guy, so he's only started 1 year at a big time school. I think he has the physical ability to be a good FS, but he will definitely need some work.
  11. We'll take a player who played college ball in the state of Louisiana (Forte, Steltz, Payne, Tillman, Chris Harris, Bobby Gray). Or a LB who played in the Pac-10 (Joey LaRocque, Michael Okwo, Jamar Williams, Lance Briggs)
  12. Joe Flacco was 100% initially supposed to be a mid-round pick. It wasn't until after the combine/private workouts that he continually rose to the 3rd, 2nd, and eventually 1st round projection a couple weeks before the draft. I'm not a huge proponent either of taking guys who rise from off-season workouts. However, our scouts and front office people know more than I do, so whoever they take I'll likely be happy with. I really like Massaquoi, though. He produced pretty well (averaged about 16 yds/catch JR and SR year) at a big time program in the best conference in college football. Let's not forget, however, that we already have a guy in Bennett on the roster who could have a pretty decent impact in the 2nd season. If we take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round, I think our WR corps will be pretty set, as long as we sign a decent veteran as well. Not saying it has to be Holt, who I'd love, but a solid vet would help round out the corps. 1- Hester 2- Bennett 3- Veteran (Toomer, Jurevicius, Holt) 4- Massaquoi 5- Davis?
  13. Pace would be fantastic... Get it done, JA!
  14. Yes, absolutely. Not only is nothing is guaranteed in the draft, but more importantly, Cutler is a young, pro-bowl QB. Before playing one game he'd immediately become the best QB to ever play for the Bears in the modern-era of football. It's even more worth it if we manage to sign Pace, further solidifying the O-line allowing us to get by at least another year or two without drafting an OT in the 1st or 2nd round. Meanwhile, we can always take a OT with our 1st or 2nd next year, allowing ample time for that prospect to develop while still having a good offensive line.
  15. I'd certainly be in favor of taking Malcolm Jenkins if he fell to us and we were going to play him at FS. He'd be a great fit there.
  16. Hey, at least we added the biggest free agent on the market in Rod Marinelli...
  17. I'd do it and draft Laurinaitis or Maualuga in the 1st round to replace Urlacher... but it's not happening.
  18. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,4083164.story So I think it's even more likely now we'll likely take a OT in the 1st 3 rounds, or sign one in free agency at least. I've been a huge proponent of Oher if the other teams above us are idiots and don't take him.
  19. Eh, you don't want Anthony Parker. Don't let the "experts" fool you. The guy sucks. Trust me, I go to Tennessee and haven't missed a game in 3 years. He is awful. Normally, I'd be all about taking some guys from my school, but in this case, not at all.
  20. I love Laurinaitis. With the current state of the team I'm not sure I'd take him, but if we make a solid addition to DE or OL, or both, in free agency, then I like the idea of taking him if he's the Best Player Available. Put him at MLB and Urlacher at SLB, which would help prolong Urlacher's career. And F*** it, I know SAM is the least prominent of the LB's in our defense, but if Brian Urlacher is your SAM, I think you make that spot important. Oher would be phenomenal. But after the Senior Bowl and combine, he'll move back up the draft boards and out of our reach. If he did fall to us somehow, though, we'd be crazy not to take him. I know he's projected as a LT, but he could definitely play RT. We'd have bookend tackles for the next 10 years.
  21. Based on stats alone, I'm going with #2. But, I'm sure there's some trick to this question. That's why I'd also like to know the age of both players. If you tell me #1 is 25 years old and #2 is 36 years old, then I'm going with #1.
  22. I like Derek Pegues a heck of a lot. If he were around in the 3rd or 4th round, I'd definitely want to take him. Probably too high to justify a 2nd rounder for him, though.
  23. Great point, which is exactly why mock drafts right now are nothing more than just for people's enjoyment. I mean, a lot of mocks have Michael Oher falling to mid/late 1st round, and Dan Pompei's recent mock didn't even have Oher in the 1st round. Hell, just a few months ago this guy was being as a Top 5 pick, maybe even #1. That said, I hope he does fall b/c I would love the Bears to take this kid and solidify the tackle spot for the next 10 years. As much as I want a DE in the 1st round, if a player of his magnitude were to fall, we'd have to take him. Anyway, I can't figure out why Oher is falling. He is playing great - run blocking and pass blocking - and yet he's falling. Sometimes I just don't get these "experts." However, after the combine, I have a feeling we won't be talking about Oher as a possibility to fall to us anymore.
  24. That's all that needs to be said regarding this situation. I love how some Bears fans actually think we could trade Urlacher for Boldin. The chance of that happening is nil...
