I spent time doing some mocks and lots of trade down scenarios and subsequently started scouting deeper into the draft. The first thing that I seemed to notice is that DT talent seems to be lacking in this draft. I could be wrong but my sense is that after Rd 1/2 there isn't a whole lot of depth. There are round 2 DTs like Gervon Dexter I have no desire to draft because he's so slow off the snap. That just leads me to think FA is the way to go for fixing DT this offseason and we can focus draft picks elsewhere. I like Drew Sanders at MLB. He's got some baggage, or growth areas, since Alabama kept him on-ball but he looks pretty good off-ball in these highlight…

So, I'm feeling a little ornery right now watching SF dominate the Queens. Reminiscing the trade that brought us Trubisky and losing the 67 and 111 picks, as well as a 2018 third rounder. I haven't looked at who SF drafted with those three picks, but I do know they drafted George Kittle in the 5th round the same draft that we drafted Adam Shaheen in the 2nd. Bet we could've drafted a really good OL with that pick. The consolation kick in the nuts is that if we don't do the trade with SF, we may have gotten stuck with Mahomes. ? Back to my Sailor Jerry

Donald Driver issues thumbs down on Bears' wideouts Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 16, 2009 9:45 PM ET Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver knows what an effective receiving corps is supposed to look like: dangerous, consistent and productive. In a blunt comment that's certain to become bulletin-board material in the Chicago Bears' locker room, Driver gave a candid assessment of the Bears' receivers during an interview with NFL Sirius Radio, per Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I think Chicago did a great job, and Lovie Smith went out there and got Jay Cutler to lead this team, but one thing they don't have is they don't have the rece…

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-bsep19.article As for the TD escalator, I can think of at least 3 dropped TD passes (Hester against Philly, Booker against Minny, and Clark against NO). Further Clark fumbled on the 1 yd line against Minny and it was recovered in the endzone by Davis. Peace

These come out about once every three seasons but after this game I think I want to vent/evaluate where I see the team. First: Brian Urlacher. There is a lot of hate for him and a lot of people thinking he isnt needed or we can do with out him. IMO, he is the best linebacker in the cover 2/Tampa 2 in the game and possibly ever (for the current scheme we run). He isnt replaceable and I think people overlook what he does in pass defense in the middle of the field. When he is done, our Tampa 2 is done, Lovie is done and we are starting over. Defense: In a lot of trouble. Lance Briggs is a top 10 defensive player in the league, but after that we are hurting. …

  7. Im going to list divisions one by one every few days and when the season starts, throw them in the archive so we can see how everyone did. AFC North Pittsburgh Steelers 10-6 The Steelers will win the division and be the only playoff team in it. Losing Faneca will hurt their running game, especially Mendenhall who will be primarily used to run up the middle. Fast Willie and Big Ben will put up similar numbers to last season. Wards numbers will start to slip as Holmes and Heath Miller emerge as the primary receiving threats. Limas Sweed wont make a big impact this season. Drummond will be a great pick up to help their field position. Theyre defense will…

My off season vlog talking about the changes in the Bears Org. I am asking a couple of my Seattle friends to either post comments on my video or cam up and tell us what was Jeremy Bates's downfall in Seattle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHXt4e9LCrE Please post your thoughts and comments. Either here or on the video itself. If my friends make any video responses for me, I will post them also to this thread.

My version of what I think we'll do in the draft and why. Next week I'll have a post about why I was wrong. Rd 1: C.J. Mosley, MLB The Bears would like to see Donald here but he's gone. Instead they grab the best MLB in the draft and setup Chicago with it's next great LB group. I know I'll hear it but with SMC running in the 4.5s, Mosley 4.6, Bostic 4.6 our LBs are everywhere and anywhere. Here's reality: Nobody on the planet believes we can count on D.J. Williams to make it through an entire season. Lance Briggs' shoulder remains an issue and he'll be playing with a harness to keep it all together. SMC is learning a new position. Bostic looked very …

After months of intense studying of prospects and (sometimes intense) beer drinking I am ready to proclaim who I think we'll draft today. 1st Rd) CB Vernon Hargreaves III. We've stayed away from any signs we like him. I see signs of a 2nd DE/Edge rusher taken ahead of us and possibly someone like Conklin. If that happens someone has to fall and right now it appears to be Hargreaves. He's not my first choice because I don't see him as a shutdown CB but he is elite in his quickness and can cover anyone for the first 20 yards. He'll start at NB while he learns the NFL. 2nd Rd) DE Chris Jones. He's been rated as far back as the 3rd round and later …

Toeaina looked very sluggish tonight and not much impact - why did he start over the DT's available?

  13. This sounds interesting. Has anyone seen him play? Websites seem to differ on if he projects as a ROT or LOT. For the record, I have no problem picking a OT in the first and looking at Brown in the 3rd with one of our 2 picks. Linemen are so hit (Joe Thomas) or miss (Robert Gallery). Scouts say: Ryan Clady, Boise State I say: Duane Brown, Virginia Tech The skinny: Forget about quarterback, there are more busts on the offensive line than anywhere in the draft. Clady looks the part, but I’ve got reservations about his tenacity. Brown, on the other hand, is one mean dude. And that’s what I want on my offensive line: a mean dude with an attitude. Yeah, he’s not…

I love the Bears. Been a fan for most of my 50 years on this planet. Seen it all, basically. Went through worse periods than this for sure. Times when we only had one player worth watching. And I will say I've never seen an offense on the Bears like this one. Capable of great things. But I'm also incredibly disappointed. I never thought this team was a sure thing. I never thought they were destined for the Superbowl. But to have a team that consistently disappoints, losing to teams they should beat, getting blown out in games they should be competitive in; blowing big leads... it gets to you. The one thing you could count on with Lovie, Ditka and maybe…

  19. Jamie Dukes: McDaniels can't be trusted Posted by Aaron Wilson on July 16, 2009 10:15 PM ET Former NFL offensive lineman Jamie Dukes came out swinging in his blog today, and he delivered a few uppercuts to Denver Broncos rookie coach Josh McDaniels. The NFL Network analyst hammered McDaniels for having a "problem with honesty," adding that other players besides former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler have "privately expressed concern." Considering a lot of players, including disgruntled Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, pass through the NFL Network studio in Los Angeles, that's an intriguing comment. Dukes referenced how Cutler said that the reason …
