I respect Fangio and the work he did putting a respectable defense on the field last year despite all the injuries and lack of talent especially for his scheme, was IMO, one of best coaching jobs we've seen in a long time with the Bears. I remember last year his comments about players were usually we'll see, or "we have one good Dlineman and the rest we'll see". This year he's clearly more upbeat about the players while still acknowledging the amount of work that needs to be done to get them up to speed. It's way too early to have any idea what this defense can become but it is safe to say that Fangio feels much better about the players he has to work with this year th…

Okay, I am sure many have read about this by now, but it is being reported that we (Bears) are playing some games w/ the media. Sunday nights game is on NBC, and it appears standard operating procedure is for Bob Costas to interview numerous players/ personnel from each team. Well, the bears refused to have anyone appear for Costas, and NBC was forced to use some local media guys to give insight leading up to the game. There are going to be a couple trains of thought. Some will say, "who cares. Its about what happens on the field, not off." To an extent, I can understand this belief. But more and more, I just disagree. We have all heard the phrase "percep…

I'm happy with the JA firing, and lukewarm on Martz resigning (mostly because I believe JA's failures have made it nearly impossible for Martz to truly succeed or implement a complete offense). However, there is still quite a bit of cause for concern. 1. Ted Phillips is apparently in charge. He is not a football guy. 2. Any new GM will be forced to take Lovie. Most superiors don't like subordinates forced upon them. This is especially true in the world of GMs. 3. Any new OC will almost certainly be weak. They won't want to be under a HC on thin ice with a new GM who will probably want to hire his own guy quite soon. 4. Number 3 makes "Mike Tice named t…

I know some will look at this as a bad thing but I look at this as a good thing. He's got a lot of physical talent, played well in his 2nd year, first full year as a starter, and then fell apart in a year where our other safety was also terrible and our entire defensive front was brutal (and worst in the league against the run). He had no chance to play well a year ago and I hope he can prove that he's learned something from last year.

Maclin's Out, Who Now? by WCG on Jan 22, 2009 7:38 AM CST An early look at the mock drafts had the Bears selecting Jeremy Maclin. Maclin hasn't done anything, but his name is making a Herculian rise up the boards. Kiper has him currently going at #7. So now that a majority of mocks have moved him up, who is the current favorites for the Bears pick? NFL New Draft 18. Chicago Bears: Darius Heyward-Bey, WR, MD The Bears defense is getting older but I think they go after a playmaking receiver to help their QB in the 2009 season. Bey is supposed to run in the 4.3’s in the 2009 NFL Draft Combine. He is ranked as my 3rd best WR in this 2009 NFL Mock Draf…

Trade Briggs to the Giants for Osi Umenyiora. Trade Knox for a 5th. Extend Idonije, Urlacher, Graham, and Okoye. Cut Omiyale, Wootton, and Spaeth. Sign Robert Meachem, John Carlson (with a new OC, the Bears need an actual TE), and Kyle Orton. Franchise Forte. 1) Reily Reiff, LT, Iowa ---All of you know me as the guy who never wants OT's this high. However, there's a good chance the Bears will be in position to draft a future LT in round 1 rather than a guy later in round 1 who might be a RT. Reiff could actually play LT in the NFL. 2) Marvin McNutt, WR, Iowa ---I didn't do this on purpose with 2 Iowa guys, but I love McNutt. He's a very good player. I…

Here they are. Remember that they're downgrading almost everybody in the league pretty drastically. The goal is to eliminate the problem in previous Maddens where every halfway-decent starter had to be at least in the high 80s. This year the range of ratings for starters is going to be something more like 70-100, instead of 85- or 90-100.

Watched the tape from mini-camp on the Bears website. Larry Meyer mentioned that Joey had put on 15 pounds of muscle and looks extremely impressive. Look for him to take a big step up this yr at least on special teams. Peace

http://bearingthenews.com/?p=337 Game Comments: Bears Vs. Packers, January 2, 2011 Posted on January 3, 2011 by Tom Shannon Defense • The Bears defense came out with all of the starters and they apparently came to play. For the most part they played fast and down hill. • The defense came out mixing it up and blitzing early. They did less blitzing as the game wore on. • The Bear defense had a bit of a problem when the Packer offense played their 22 personnel (2 backs, 2 wide receivers). They couldn’t stop the run out of this formation without an eighth guy in the box but they also didn’t like leaving their corners in single high man coverage. …

With all the off season moves we made IMHO we have the chance to be a really good team from position to position. I think at maybe the secondary will be our only weakness. QB Cutler, McCown, Blanchard Cutler will start of course but McCown is not scare to throw the ball and the staff seem to be high on Blanchard RB Forte, Bush, Allen, Ford, Unga, Forte is the starter and with the new staff will be more involved in the passing game than he was last year, Bush will be the short yards guy Unga gets cut, and Allen and Ford will fight it out for the 3rd RB spot WR Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Anderson, Golden, Fields, Lenz, Wilson, We…

Adam must be busy, or still passed out after celebrating a Bears victory, so let's get it rollin'. The Chargers D leaves a lot to be desired. So does their HC Brandon Staley who makes more questionable calls in a game than any HC I can remember. Maybe I only see his bad games. My biggest concern is with Darnell Wright and that bum shoulder. Going against Maxx Crosby with one arm is not good but he's more finesse than strength. Trying to one arm Bosa's or Mack's power won't work one bit. Plus they have all that weakness on tape and a week to prep for it. Our DBs are really playing well. Since starters Gordon and Johnson returned Brisker has retu…
