I've been thinking about all the recent chatter about if the board could be smarter than a GM (or let's say as smart as). Now there are far too many aspects of a GM's job for us to sit here and say we got it...from FA, to staffing levels, scouting, knowing the inside details of player's behavior, details on injuries, etc. However we can approximate the one area of most interest these days...the draft. This is some long term thinking here for those who have been with this board for several years. I believe we can build our own draft and save it for future evaluation. After the draft the board is usually quiet. This off-season I propose we take on the challeng…

Another cool site with a decent article on QB valuation: http://overthecap.com/value-pricing-the-nfl-qb/ They said Cutler under-performed and is worth between $8-$9 million a year. To me that seems about right.

I think all the OL people we would draft will be gone. I think we would like to draft Austin and he will be gone. I think the players that drop down to us will be DE/DT types, but I think Trufant is ranked right around our pick in the big boards I have been looking at and think he will be our pick. This is not the player, I would like, that would be Ogletree at this stage but, think with his off field problems, we let him slide. There is a real good chance we move down but for sake of this thread, we pick Turfant/CB.

So I was reading some articles on NFP, that linked me to Draftmetrics, here are the articles: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Late-r...to-success.html and http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Studyi...-NFL-Teams.html Some great info and analysis, checkout their site here: http://www.draftmetrics.com/ Some of the take-aways, based on Big school vs Little school drafting, the Bears are almost dead on league average, where teams like the Seahawks and Saints almost exclusively draft from a BCS eligible school. The Bears drafted over the league average from the Big-12, and less than the league average from the ACC. For the entire league, here is the p…

I will list some names of players drafted in latter rounds that end up being good pros. WR- I think Dennard Robinson ends up either as a PR,KR or a slot type WR being a productive NFL player. He has the speed football IQ to succeed at the next level. OG-Alvin Bailey/Ark- He is athletic, been productive- and could end up a starter with the right team. OC- Brian Schwenke - I think he starts his first year in the league. DT- Akeem Spence- He had 72 tackles as a senior at Illinois- that is huge for a DT. OLB- Gerald Hodges- Highly productive player with good instincts- I think he eventually starts for an NFL team. CB- Terry Hawthorne- has the s…

At this point, 19 days before the draft, the direction I'm going with the 1st 2 pick is replacing these 2 guys. Those 2 guys played the biggest roles for our beloved Bears who have yet to be replaced. You can say we replaced Izzy with Turk Mcbribe and replaced DJ Moore with Hayden/Bowman but I believe we could still use an upgrade over those guys. Mcbride wasn't able to find that much time playing for the terrible Saints D, Hayden ranked in the bottom half of free agent CBs according to PFF, and Bowman was relegated to almost strictly ST work. I'm really leaning towards Trufant in the 1st, I think he would offer the most value to the Bears next year and in the futu…

Bleacher report posted a mock draft on April 3rd, and it is my favorite I have seen so far. 1 Copper/OG nobody will complain if that happens 2 Amerson/CB 6'1" 205 and had 5 interceptions and 12 PBU in 2012. 4 Stills/WR 6'1" 194-4.38 speed-82-959-11tds in 2012. I can get aboard on this pick 5 Klein/MLB not a as big a name as others, but highly productive player in 2012 6 Grissom/DT DT depth at the end of the draft Conclusion: our 1st 4 draft picks would make a contribution in the first year and Copper would be a stud. One o…

Hi All, Just wanted to say thanks to Pixote for starting this great forum and for all who contribute, I benefit so much from being a part of this forum! I would never be able to know nearly as much about the Bears and football in general if it were not for this board, many members here are knowledgeable and helpful and I learn a great deal from reading the posts! Keep on making this board a great one, thanks to all!

Not much going on right now and since I like moving my mouth, I will talk frankly. With Emery(last year) and Trestman this year, we have is new blood and new hopes to hang our hat on. Although I thought Lovie was a good coach, he had way to many bad habits I didnt like. He talked down to people in interviews, had bad clock management, was to loyal to players that didnt pan out, and no offensive prespective. JA just sucked at drafting and that is what we hired him for. Emery's first draft has yet to look good, but I honestly think he was handcuffed with Lovie still in his year. He brought in BM and it came cheap, so if nobody in the draft works out, he was a w…

Just taking the temperature of the board - I sense a lot of resistence to Manti Te'o, but I wonder if he's become underrated at this point. So I'm wondering, what is the earliest you would be OK with having the Bears draft Te'o? Assume for the purposes of the question that either Ogletree or Brown are gone by #20 (but not both). 1) #20 overall 2) Trade down, but pick still in the 1st round 3) Trade down, but pick in the early 2nd round 4) #50 5) Don't want him

So I was bored and decided to take a look at 10 different mock drafts and see where players were being projected. This would give me at least somewhat of a clue for who will be there at #20. Here is what I came up. The following 10 players were selected in the top 19 in every draft, and I have to assume that none will be available at #20 (ESPN Grade): Luke Joeckel, OT (97) Eric Fisher, OT (96) Lane Johnson, OT (94) Chance Warmack, OG (95) Geno Smith, QB (91) Ezekiel Ansah, DE (95) Dee Milliner, CB (95) Barkevious Mingo, LB (94) Sharrif Floyd, DT (97) Jarvis Jones, LB (93) The next 8 were in 80-90% of the mocks, so it is unlikely that t…

I don't think we will but we still need another backup QB. The Cardinals had four QB'S on their roster after cutting Skelton and a few teams have three to five. What if we could sign J.Russell....cut from the Raiders.....hey...he will come cheap, has starting experience, is now back on rack and hungry to play and is a big man to bring down like Big Ben........so what say you?

Since some people think we are smarter than most GMs lets put that to practice. First question. With the Urlacher controversy, WOULD WE SIGN URLACHER FOR THE 3.5 MILLION HE WOULD HAVE SIGNED FOR? My vote would be a matter of valve, the Bears offer him 2 mil to come back. He turned it down. I think that was a fair valve for what he would bring to the table in 2013. I dont think he would make the full season without missing games, therefore If he signed for the 2 mil, I would still draft his replacement in the first couple of rounds. Since he wanted a 2 year contract at 11 mil and would have accepted 3.5 but still wanted two years, I would say not take h…
