Interesting. Michael Sinclair will be the asst DL coach, and comes over from Trestman's staff in Montreal. Remember him? Seahawks and Eagles? All Pro '96 '97 '98? Led the NFL in sacks in 1998 Was DL coach for World Bowl winning Hamburg in 2007 Joined Trestman in Montreal in 2008 and won 2 of 5 Grey Cups with a 3rd losing appearance in the same stretch. Not bad.

It's awesome we've inked Briggs. Yet our weakness has been offense, and so far the only thing we've done is dump 2 o-lineman, and lose our best WR to a division rival. Don't we have to bring a play-maker in here? Assuming we're only going to pay one (we still need to sign an offensive guard) would you rather have Michael Turner or Bryan Johnson? These are the two best available at their positions. I hope like hell we're able to land one of the two. No way we'd get both (or one for that matter.)

The 49ers are putting ILB Michael Wilhoite on the trading block, reportedly looking for a 6th or 7th round pick. He beat out Chris Borland last year to win the starting ILB job for Fangio. His stats weren't eye popping or anything, but he did start a whole season for a top 5 defense. At the very least you typically won't get a guy in the 6th or 7th round that could come in and compete for an ILB spot right out of the box. If Fangio likes this guy, getting a starting ILB for a 6th round pick would be huge.

I will list some names of players drafted in latter rounds that end up being good pros. WR- I think Dennard Robinson ends up either as a PR,KR or a slot type WR being a productive NFL player. He has the speed football IQ to succeed at the next level. OG-Alvin Bailey/Ark- He is athletic, been productive- and could end up a starter with the right team. OC- Brian Schwenke - I think he starts his first year in the league. DT- Akeem Spence- He had 72 tackles as a senior at Illinois- that is huge for a DT. OLB- Gerald Hodges- Highly productive player with good instincts- I think he eventually starts for an NFL team. CB- Terry Hawthorne- has the s…

Watching the combine and two guys are impressing me today. Christian Hackenberg and Vernon Adams have both shown great accuracy and good footwork. I really like Hackenberg's release point and quick delivery. And Hackenberg's arm strength is good without much effort. Adams looks like he has to load up a bit to get the long ball out - especially the post-corner, but he is putting it right where it needs to be every time. Loved Connor Cook's anticipation. Jacoby Brissett looks slooooow and his delivery mechanics are slower. He has some things to work on. On the other hand, Treyvon Boykin looks very, very uncomfortable and rushed. His footwork is horrible. H…

The way we're using our TE's, it sounds as though we might actually be able to establish somewhat of a "mid-Range" passing attack. This is something that we've not been able to do on a consistent basis since Ron Turner's returned as OC. Seemingly (especially with Rex) it's mostly "all or nothing." If we didn't connect on big plays down field, our running game stalled, & we were basically screwed. How many times in the past 3 years have you heard "2nd & 2" (We've heard 2nd & 12 far more often.) I don't completely blame Turner for this. Moose sucked & Berrian is not an over the middle receiver. Now we finally have the personnel. (Olsen, Cl…

If the Bears don't go OT in the first (Britton) and Loadholt ends up being gone in the 2nd (or the Bears just don't like him), where should the Bears go at OT from there? The draft seems relatively thin after that as far as pure RTs are concerned (Fenuki Tupou, Garrett Reynolds and the rising Sebastian Vollmer seem the only pure, consensus RTs), but there are a number of either swing tackles who can arguably play LT and RT (Jason Watkins, Troy Kropog, Gerald Cadogan), pure LTs (Xavier Fulton) or OG/OT tweeners (T.J. Lang, Kraig Urbik, Herman Johnson). So, if the Bears pass on OT in the first two rounds, any of these guys a particularly good fit for the Bears? If we reall…

I know there is speculation that LB is a big need and Chicago is known for its great history of MLBs. Going through the last 5 drafts, only 3 MLBs taken round 1. Two are from Alabama, Rolando McClain and Donta Highower, and Luke Kuechly Boston College. Size wise, 6-2 265 for Hightower and 6-3 242 for Kuechly and McClain. With this history, would the risk of taking a smaller Mosely 6-3 234 (15 reps on bench) at 14? Plus he has injury history, which may be because he is almost the size of a SS. The only MLB I feel worthy out of this group is Kuechly, and he is a difference maker/probowler. I'm not saying Mosely won't be good...but, he is small and has average speed, an…

  12. Was up with my crying daughter in the middle of the night, so this was how I passed the time and thought I would share. I think I'm getting to the point where I'm getting a pretty good idea of where I see value and how I'd like to see the draft progress, not that it ever actually goes that way . . . 1) Kevin White, WR, West Virginia - I remain a WR at #7 guy and would prefer White over Cooper by a hair, but I figure only one will be there any way. 2) Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon - An upgrade over Jordan Mills, who regressed last season, is sorely needed, and he can start at RT out of the gate and then move to LT whenever cutting Bushrod makes sense. **trade down in …

We're at the halfway point now, and there are some pretty obvious holes in the Bears' roster. It's always possible that some of them will be filled by season's end: Chris Williams could learn to play guard, one of our receivers could make the jump to a legit #1, Tommie Harris could reemerge as a great interior pass-rusher. At this point, though, none of that seems too likely. So if the season were over next week, who would you want in the draft? Here's my ideal scenario. 1) Julio Jones, WR, Bama - Cutler needs a go-to guy. I didn't buy it before this season, but now I'm convinced. As good as he is, he's always going to force a couple of passes into coverage, so…

In doing a bit of research on other safeties, I came across Mike Brown's name. Honestly, as KC was so irrelevant this past year, I had not really taken notice to what Brown did. I didn't even know whether he was a starter all year or not. When I checked his stats, I couldn't believe it. Brown plays in, and started, all 16 games. He has not played the full 16 games since 2003. Brown had 103 total tackles, more than he ever had w/ the Bears, including 79 solo, which matches his high as a rookie. Yea, I realize tackles don't necessarily reflect overall play, but consider the injury relationship. A guy who could not stay healthy played all 16 games, and did …

Two sources said offensive tackle John Tait is seriously considering retirement, and a third source close to the team called it a fait accompli that Tait will not return for 2009 despite having one year left on his contract. Mike Brown, the heart and soul of the Bears for the last nine seasons, was informed Friday that the team will not make him a contract offer. The Bears also cut ties with Marty Booker, one of the top wide receivers in team history, but the biggest story is the Bears seem set to lose a player they want to have back. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/index.html
