Since we dont have anything else to talk about, i thought it might be a good time to say that the "new" kickoff rule looked pretty good this past year. I was initially unsure. You guys may remember that I worried that there might be some new unintended wrinkles that would allow cheap or lucky free touchdowns. But in truth, having seen it tested across a season, it seems even more solid than the previous rule when it comes to dumb little mistakes causing cheap touchdowns. Im not talking about earned touchdowns, where a Devin Hester type scores because of his skill or dominance - those are always good. But of those that were not earned, i think the new rule p…

1. Devin Hester is a true reciever. He had several big plays today and looked the part like never before. Lets hope this continues. 2. Mike martz can adjust a game plan. His changing up the game plan was masterfull. Knowing his line was in trouble he took it out of the lines hands started the quick passing game that did not require a lineman to hold his block. Absolutely Genius. I say Genius because I never seen it from a Team in chicago before. Great win. No last minute blow ups. Truely a coaching win.

Who would have thought that a Kyle Orton led Bear team with many missing key defensive players would of whooped the first place Green Bay Packers? The Bears got to examine Orton, Wolfe, Williams, McBride, Toeiana and Kennedy. What they learned IMO is that Orton can go into 2008 competing for the #1 spot but most likely claiming the #2. The Bears should sign Grossman and release Griese and spend a first day draft pick on a QB. Running back in 2008 will not see much change as long a Cedric Benson can come back 100% healthy. Adrian Peterson deserves a shot at being the featured back coming into next camp but if anything we need to spit the carries and give Wolfe a seri…

Thanks to RockfordBears for the thought... Lovie Smith is Coach Dale The similarities are astounding. Neither has a clue how to adjust to any gametime situation. Both are stuck in "their system" so much that other concepts are an affront to their knowledge. In fact, they run their system to the fault of their team's talent. How else can we explain the fact that Coach Dale wanted to give the ball to someone other than Jimmy, who was shooting 98% throughout the playoffs? Speaking of that, both mismanage their players' talents. Much like Coach Dale, Lovie insists on forcing the square peg into the round hole, or maybe everyone else is wrong () about the cover-2 …

Offense has gone into hibernation Defense now letting the vikings have whatever they want and when ever they want. end result a valiant effort for 3 Qtrs and then we lay down and die. Favre is getting all this love, but the Bears are laying down now.

Long story short, that move means Cousins is going to a QB-starved team. Until the trade, it was uncertain what would happen. They could still have tagged him, or they could have worked out a deal. But now Alex Smith is the QB in DC, and Cousins is going to be a "franchise" QB available in free agency. That takes at least one QB needy team out of trade possibilities.

1. HHCD - HaHa Clinton Dix, S, Bama 2. RSH - RaShede Hageman, DT, Minn 3. SJB - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska 4. DAT - De'Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon 5. KPL - Kevin Pierre-Louis, OLB, BC 6. KVDK - Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State 6. JDD - Joe Don Duncan, TE, Dixie State Probably not realistic to squeeze ASJ - Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Wash in there. He's also a 2-3 round guy. I gotta be honest...I wouldn't be upset with this draft. I love the first pick, like Hageman if he falls into the second, and think SJB could be a solid starter in a year or so. DAT has potential to be explosive, and KPL is probably the quickest LB in the dra…

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...power-rankings/ http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...-chicago-bears/ PFT Preseason Power Rankings No. 11: Chicago Bears Posted by Michael David Smith on July 19, 2012, 1:37 PM EDT Getty Images Until Jay Cutler got hurt last year, the Bears appeared to be heading to the playoffs. They were 7-3, playing very well on both sides of the ball, and looking like a wild card team that could make some noise in January. Then Cutler went down, running back Matt Forte got hurt as well, and the offense simply couldn’t do anything as the Bears stumbled home to an 8-8 finish. That .500 record made 2011 a disa…

What if the coaches said, as others here have, that there is a decent amount of young talent on the team? That they just need good coaching? Suppose they think Paea will be stout enough for the NT spot, and the combo of Young, Sutton, Ferguson, Allen, etc. is enough for the DL? Suppose they think SMC is great at his natural position, and Bostic/Greene are perfect for the other two holes in the 3-4, with Briggs filling the last spot? They realize the need at FS, but like the scondary otherwise...and dislike small school safeties. I present you with the anti-Lovie draft, where they eschew the weakness and supplement the strength. 1. Trade back and get Landon …

They only have 24 players with a 1st round grade (I thought that was interesting). Here are their 1st round graded players, I was surprised not to see Vander Esch, Davenport, J Allen, and Sutton listed (all 2nd rounders). It would be nice to get any of Nelson/Fitzpatrick/Smith in the first and then someone like Davenport in the 2nd. QB J Rosen B Mayfield L Jackson S Darnold RB S Barkley R Jones D Guice WR C Ridley OT McGlinchey C Williams OG Q Nelson I Wynn C J Daniels Edge B Chubb H Landry DT V Vea M Hurst LB R Smith Tr Edmunds CB D Ward M Fitzpatrick J Alexander J Jackso…

Here is the current list of top 100 FA's for 2020 from The Athletic. I excluded the top 30 due to the expected salaries and/or projected tags. This is the remaining list. If you could pick 4 guys off this list to target, who would they be? After reading some articles about FA TE failures, I am avoiding TE in FA. I selected Fuller's brother at CB, Vonn Bell to play SS, Vaitai to replace Leno, and Glasgow at G. All are young enough to play out a full contract. I also re-signed Kwit (not counting that as a target). Then in the draft, the team can address TE, Edge, speed at WR, and depth. Top 1-30 Excluded: 31. Chris Harris Jr., CB, Broncos (31) 32. D.J. Humphr…

All eight kickers are at the mini-camp this weekend. Nagy had an impromptu competition at the end of the day giving each kicker one chance to make a 43-yard FG (the significance should be lost on no one). Six missed (including one doink!). Two made it - John Baron and Spencer Evans. Nagy's assessment: "Not good enough." I've seen reports are that during the course of practice, Elliott Fry and Casey Bednarski were the more consistent in accuracy and distance. Stay tuned for the best soap opera of the offseason . . .

I'm loving this season. LOVING. But I'm worried. I feel like this season is a lot like Icarus. Flying too far too fast could cause huge problems. Amos needs re-signing now. Fuller, Floyd, Bush are all in 2019, and Eddie Jackson should be on tap quickly thereafter. One more year like this one, and I'm sure there are a few who others who will want to restructure. We won't be able to keep them all. Add that to the fact that there is a serious lack of draft picks, and I'm a bit worried about the path forward. I feel like the window is open, but it's only open for a year or two more.

So I've been wondering, as I'm sure a lot of you have, why the Bears have totally abandoned the run this season. It's clear that the running game hasn't been great (although the Beekman/Omiyale swap has helped immensely) but even considering that, I haven't been able to figure out why Turner would go a whole game and only call 6 or 8 runs for Forte. To that end, here's an article from Advanced NFL Stats that's very, very worth reading, especially as it helps explain the Bears' struggles this season. The author applies some very in-depth statistical analysis and economic theory to football teams' decision-making, in terms of both their run/pass ratio and their prefe…

As long as we have Turner and Babich running the O and the D we will be hurting. It seem that neither can make half time adjustments or change the scheme on the fly. On offense we run the same old plays no matter what the down and distance is. No thought of using all the weapons you have i.e...Olsen Davis and Clark at TE. When was the last time you saw the 3 TE set with Davis and Olsen at receiving TE? Jones and Forte in the backfield together? Hester is the semi-wildcat? On defense we need to start someone that really wants to play and stop going through the motions. We need cover corners and not corners covered in money.Tillman and Vasher are good but just not good…

With this years FA and the draft so far the Bears are making me sick. Sick with Koolaid flu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA HA. We are getting everything we need for a deep run into the playoffs and SuperBowl. We just got Hardin a big 6'3, 222lb, 4.44 Saftey/CB not that he will be starting but put him in against C. Johnson. We got Jeffrey at 6'3 219lb for Cutler to throw to. Marshall and Jeffrey will be in beast mode during games. So there will be no more alligator arms like Knox does, those two will go and get the ball oh and not to mention the red zone with 6'3 Marshall, 6'3 Jeffrey, and 6'7 Davis...WOW!!!!!So this is what we have done so far Marshall = better the R.Williams T…

Looking at a defense that is in double digit territory in turnovers and leading the league in points per game is what we like after 6 games and having an established #1 WR for the QB to throw to under duress. Having the deepest DL in the league after enetring the season with the age of the defense being questioned was not expected. On a couple of series during the Mon Nite game the DL was Wooten, Melton, Paea and McClellin. The play of the line didn't drop off when these not "old guys" were on the field. BTW 3 of those 4 guys I mentioned are JA picks and if you add in Tillman, DJ Moore and Briggs plus the aqusitions of Peppers ,Idonije,Jennings and Okoye(2011), JA didn't l…

The only positive is that we play them again. And it's better to win the late game than the early one. Learn Bears learn. This sucks and it is painful. They own our ass. Until we prove prove otherwise, I will expect similar results. We are f'ed.
