The Sun Times and Tribune both had articles in today's paper talking about our secondary. Three things that were news: 1. Peanut Tillman is staying at cornerback (Not exactly breaking news, but it stops the rumors of him going to fs) 2. Danieal Manning is staying at nickel-back, not free safety (this is different then what Smith had said before) 3. Craig Steltz is penciled in as the starter at free safety with Payne at SS. First, this tells me our cornerback position is pretty damn strong. D Manning looked really good at nickel-back. We're hoping Vasher can return to form, and he'll be battling with Corey Graham who was pretty damn good last year. T…

I only see this happening if they feel other positions are more needy in the draft. So we would have Miller, but cant expect him to play everyday. Daniel Brown shows some development. Braunbacker still to develop. So if we add Gersham at 28 , he is a very good blocker and still have receiving skills. He wont be very expensive so I see it as a viable option. PFT has a piece, using quotes from Harris, saying Harris could be calling out Urlacher and Briggs. Reading the quotes, I tend to agree, or at least calling out one of them. I recently saw this article and became slightly irritated: "Expert" rankings I just don't see it. I think the "experts" forget the following: 1) The Bears were in the Super Bowl year before last with essentially the same team 2) The Bears had a ton of defensive injuries during the year 3) The Bears had a bad offensive line last year 4) The Bears had Pro Bowlers who were injured on each level of defense (Harris, Url, Brown) 5) The Bears lost the heart of the defense, Brown, on a freak accident 6) The Bears can't rely on Rex Grossman every game, but he sure has blown it up in some games...and Orton definitely has skills 7) The Bears had a ton of …

The Bears will be good this year, not great. At QB, I see a solid competition between the two QB's bringing out the best in one of them. I still think it'll be Grossman but I could be wrong. Frankly, the reason I'm leaning Grossman at this time is because I think he let his success in 2006 get to him a bit in 2007. He was constantly thinking, the Bears are "dissing me" by not signing me up long term for a new big money deal. Like the New Years Eve Game, he took his eye off the prize, didn't show the required amount of pride in being his best at all times, and regressed. I know bagging on him became popular, but I thought this was a very good read. I also will caveat it by saying I always was a fan of Lovie so I am inherently biased but I felt that he was the time of guy you could be proud your organization had and there is something to be said about that and how he handled the lockeroom, etc. We sorely miss that sort of leadership qualities from the top.
