What if DT LEONARD WILLIAMS falls to the Bears at 7? I did two mocks and it happened twice. I also had this happen on fanspeak. Assume there are no partners for a trade down. They have to draft Williams, right? If so, that certainly would be a curveball to the draft plans. What would the rest of the draft have to be to alter the unexpected?

Rumor out of Washington that Snyder is interested in Cutler and is considering swapping picks and sending us Kirk Cousins for Jay Cutler. I presume he is tired of drafting QB's and figures that would give the Skins a bit more stability. For us, Cousins is someone we could at least utilize a bit while we use the Redskins pick to draft a franchise QB (if think he is in this draft). Obviously no deal is going to be made now, but man that would be awesome!

The three most attractive veteran WR options out there are Torry Holt, Plaxico Burress, and Matt Jones. Anyone else available isn't going to make the impact that these three guys can make. However, of the three individuals, Burress has had constant on the field and off the field problems and Jones has had very serious off the field problems. Suspensions are looming for both Jones and Burress and in Plax case you have jail to worry about. Holt is a similar age to Burress and his productivity slipped last year but you can point to a lot of factors that led to the decrease (Rams being horrific being numero 1 through 10). If the Bears get the first pick and decide to trade out of it, here are some teams with draft capital and a need at QB. First off, I think once you get past 10, it is too much capital, so I will stick to the top 10 for now: 1. ARZ - Currently #2, could want to move up to secure their guy knowing someone will ultimately jump them. The value on something like this is tough, but 2x 2nd rounders would be the value based on the trade value chart. 2. WAS - Currently #3, Howell is benched, and they shedded some salary. Starting out the gates +10 seems a little high after a 9 pts win and GB's double digit loss. Oddsmakers still have no faith in this team. Can you imagine if the Bears win and head into an easier part of their schedule, 2-0 while GB sits at 0-2? That would be wild. If I go off Week 1s results, I would probably say the Bears win, but going off historical data, it looks like GB should win by a TD. So I am going to say Bears by 3, 27-24!

Take it for what it is worth. Clearly the Bears and Ballard are interested. I think the Bears are lined up to meet with Ballard on Wednesday and are meeting with some other GM candidates today / tomorrow. My guess is by Friday Bears will introduce their new GM, if not sooner.

Thru the early games today, here is the current Draft Order. The Bears are literally in no man's land at #16. They also will be the only team in the NFL with exactly a .500 record thru Week 11. So depending on how things go, the Bears are only 1.5 games away from a top 10 pick and a game out of the last wild card spot. Not only that, if they somehow beat the Packers next week, they would only be a game back in the division. So next week the season is literally on the line in so many different ways. Urlacher makes a pretty strong case to re-sign him. I thought his wording was interesting. He seems to understand that to stay on this team, he is going to have to take a pay cut. Today I am reading that we not only want to re-sign Rex, but that we are confident we will. What I do not understand is, why the hell would Rex want to come back? Even more questionable, why would Rex want to re-sign w/ us before FA begins. 1. Rex has been shredded by his own fans and media in Chicago. 2. Listening to ESPN Radio today, and McShay was on and talking QBs. He was asked if the bears would consider a QB at 14. He then talked about how it has been rumored for a while that a team in the teens was considering Henne. He went on to talk about how he separately knew that Chicago is in fact very high on Henne. Said they/we love his size and arm strength. Also mentioned our liking Flacco. He is not predicting Chicago will take Henne at 14, but he and Kiper are both talking about how they keep hearing about a team in the teens who is looking at QB that few realize.
