I don't get it, maybe I'm dense. LOL Many of us wanted Daboll as HC because of his experience in developing Allen who has similar skill sets as Fields. So we get a DC as our new HC, with the idea of having someone as an OC to make sure Fields reaches his potential. Now we're talking about Getsy as OC? Does he even have experience calling plays? Is he qualified to develop Fields?

After reading this article I am impressed. His connections & experience with Lovie Smith, Rod Marinelli, and Monte Kiffin was a pleasant surprise. It's also interesting that 'Flus' was initially hired by Indy as Josh McDaniels' wish list as DC for his staff, then remained on when Frank Reich was hired. So we replace Ryan & Matt with Ryan & Matt.

Crap! All three are probably good candidates, but not the direction I wanted to go.
-
I just read that the NYG GM not only is considering Daboll. but Frazier as well. Maybe he goes Frazier! NFL.com article:

I'll be disappointed if I don't see Poles add his guys to the list. I'm sure he must have candidates for the position of HC in mind beyond these three. Anyone interviewing for the position of GM would have an idea of who he'd want to hire.
-
Like many, I want Daboll as our HC. Unfortunately, I have a gut feeling he will sign with NYG. I'm not enthused with the three candidates coming in for 2nd interviews. I hope Poles is equally unimpressed. I know we were disappointed with Nagy from KC, but Eric Bieniemy has been OC for KC the past four years and has done an outstanding job. I wouldn't mind seeing him come in if Daboll signs elsewhere. I could see Fields in an offense similar to what Mahomes runs. What do you guys think?
-
I agree 100%. I want Daboll as our HC. But let me play devil's advocate. Many on this forum want a GM hired before a HC, allowing the new GM to have an input into the HC hiring. Daboll, with no assurance from the Bears, may not want to risk passing up on the Giants if they offer him the job after his 2nd interview. So do we try to hire Daboll now before the Giants or wait for the new Bears' GM to be in place?
-
I think it depends on how close Daboll is with GM Schoen. It might influence him to go to the Giants. I hope not. I really want Daboll in Chicago.
-
I trust Bill Polian. I'm not concerned that he is too old. I'm 73, so I might be prejudiced. Yes, he's long in the tooth, but I think he's still top shelf.
-
Crap, forgot about that!

Heard a possible HC option for NYG was Quinn. He comes from that area, grew up a Giants fan. I'm like the rest of you, praying for Daboll as our next HC I read one article saying Caldwell was a popular option for the Bears??????? Popular with who? I thought he did a bad job in Detroit, which I appreciated, but certainly don't want him as our HC.
-
I can only dream of Fields playing in an offense designed around him like Josh Allen benefited from tonight. On the other hand, I was not at all impressed with the play calling for New England.

Notice the issues we've had with our salary cap lately? Well, it wasn't Cliff Stein's fault. Ryan Pace decided to hire a buddy from New Orleans, salary cap analyst Joey Laine, and move Cliff Stein to a position of General Counsel. Stupid! Let's hope Stein is put back in charge of our salary cap.

Rick Smith wasn't fired. He took a leave of absence from his position as GM with Houston to spend time with his wife who was fighting breast cancer. Houston eventually had to replace him.

I couldn't have said it better - I agree 100%

If we were talking about Michael McCaskey, damn straight, I would never trust the ass wipe. He constantly interfered with the GM/HC. I honestly do not think George McCaskey interfered with Pace or Nagy. However, I did not like the past structure: George McCaskey --> Ted Phillips --> Ryan Pace --> Matt Nagy Now, Teddy will be concentrating on the new Arlington Property acquisition. I see no reason we need a football guy as a go between. Now it will be George McC --> GM --> HC I am also thrilled Bill Polian will be advising on the hire of the GM & HC I look forward to this off season. I'm optimistic.

I agree. Flores is highly regarded. He did a good job with the roster he had to work with. However, his handling of Tua was bad, really bad. I don't want to risk the future development of Fields. Therefore, I don't want to take a chance on Flores.

I'm so happy for you! Congratulations!

Payton Manning as a rookie threw more Interceptions than TDs and had a 71.2 QR Give him a Good HC, a OC who knows how to utilize his skill set, and a better OL to protect him and this kid will be fine. TBH, would Mahomes, Brady, or Rodgers have had very much success with what Fields was given to operate under?

Mongo, I will now answer your reply now that someone was kind enough to move this thread. (No, I didn't move it) Look inward? Okay. When I look inward: I see my oldest daughter, one of 5 kids I adopted back in the early 80's and raised as a single parent I see my best friend from high school who graduated with me back in '68 I see a coworker from a job I had just before I decided to retire who became a good friend What do they all have in common? They all died after being infected with Covid-19 before vaccines became available During the past two years approximately 100,000 people in the US died of the flu During the past two years over 800,000 people in the US died of Covid-19 But people want to say, no big deal! It's just a simple cold, no more than the common flu. Does it upset me? Yes. But that is not the only reason I objected to this discussion on the main forum. If you wanted to discuss NFL protocols & procedures for handling the pandemic, fine. But that can be done without posting personal opinions about Covid-19/vaccines/boosters Especially when some of those opinions directly contradict those of the CDC, NIH, WHO, and every infectious disease specialist. I will not debate those contradicting opinions, only state I strongly disagree and believe advancing false information is harmful Like I said earlier, to argue religion, politics, and now Covid-19 is a foolish endeavor. (Thanks to whoever moved this thread. Since some posters seemed to think I was the only one who found it inappropriate, I decided not to move it myself.)
-
I really do not want to delete this thread. I really do not want to move this thread. If I do either I will just upset people. So I guess I will just leave. I'm sick and tired of this crap.
-
I always adhered to a belief one should never discuss politics or religion with friend or foe I think in todays climate, this should now include everything Covid-19 I totally disagree with your points of view on Covid-19, vaccines, and boosters but I will not muddy the waters by discussing it with you on a forum that was established for discussing all things 'Chicago Bears' We do have an 'Off Topic' forum available (The Water Cooler) where you can post your POV on anything you so desire.

So we hire him as HC. A year or two down the road Belichick retires. Does McDaniels decide to leave the Bears to take his dream job of being HC for NEP? He shafted the Colts, accepting the HC position they offered him, then after they announced his hiring, he went back to NEP. He is a hell-a-va OC but he has a lot of baggage from Denver and then the INDY fiasco.

Are we sure this was a legitimate "leak" of an action the brass had actually decided to make? Or, was it a beat reporter reporting an unsubstantiated rumor which began on an assumption or possibly even invented by same reporter? I suspect it was the latter. I don't think the Bears have ever fired a HC mid-season. (and there have been HCs far worse than Nagy) That being said, I actually would prefer they did fire Nagy before Week 16 (assuming Pace remains GM) so that we can interview candidates during weeks 17 & 18 (a nice change in NFL procedures that I'd like to see the Bears take advantage of.) If the Bears decide to also release Pace, then we need to wait and allow the new GM to make his own hire of a HC. Personally, I've got mixed reviews of Pace. Unless it was a GM candidate that is a sure winner (Is there such a thing?) then we might be better off keeping Pace. There are a lot worse in the front offices around the league.

I have no way of knowing if Nagy will be replaced as HC. I've given up trying to figure out what the 'brain trust' of the Bears are going to do. Below is a link to an article just posted to NFL.com giving a brief description of thirteen possible candidates for HC positions that might open up after this season, as well as a lengthy list of those to keep an eye on in the near future. I found it interesting. Nathaniel Hackett, Byron Leftwich, Patrick Graham among young NFL coaches to watch
