    Best drafts

Fair enough but I still think Patterson was over-rated by the so-called draft gurus based on his raw athletic ability. Then when you listen to them on their final analysis (talking ESPN) they are all wondering if Patterson can develop into a good pro WR. When Todd McShay says he disappears for 30 or 40 plays that's a bit of a concern for a first round pick...one he had rated there. Regarding the Vikings draft we have to keep in mind they essentially gave up picking a good MLB prospect and good Wr prospect to get Patterson.
  2. Just list which players you want us to include in the first round draft pick poll. Right now it seems we will have (and I'll add a couple from my original wish list): Sharrif Floyd (DT), Kyle Long (OG), Tyler Eifert (TE), Desmond Trufant (CB), Xavier Rhodes (CB), Alec Ogletree (LB), Cordarrelle Patterson (WR), Sylvester Williams (DT) That's 8 players just based on who was chosen after us in Rd 1 excluding Travis Frederick (because nobody takes a C in Rd 1) and Matt Elam with FS not that high of a need for us. I'll assume, with the exception of Bowlingtwig, we're all in agreement not to include Te'o in the final poll. With Sharrif Floyd available there is likely little consideration for Williams IMO so he does not need to be in the poll. I say we do this in two steps....setup a poll with the above 7 players (removing Syl Williams) and then whoever the top 3 are then we do a final vote among those 3 and the the winner the second poll is our official Bearstalk first round pick.
  3. I'll need some help here setting up the poll once this thread is done to setup the final Rd 1 Poll. For now we need to decide on who is "on our board" at #20. We said we'd have a couple days to make sure everyone had a chance for input as some folks contribute to the board from work. I'll step aside for a bit and let some of the draft experts list their thoughts. Adam put together some great prospect lists as the draft went along. We need to drill down to 5-7 prospects who would have been "at the top of our board". That seems pretty typical for what teams do in the draft process. Then we'll put up the poll and select our first round pick. If a couple prospects (or three) end up with say ~30% of the vote then we'll put them up side by side and select a clear winner. The only thing I'll say is that at this point Manti Te'o is not on my list. Will Kyle Long even be on our board for the Rd 1 selection? I suspect no. Who should be the prospects at the top of our board for our first pick?
  4. I like Izzy but he's slowed down a lot the last couple years. He has never been and never will be a run stuffing DT so if that's the role you want to fill we have to go elsewhere. In terms of next year's needs I'd say it will be CB at the top of the list followed by LB (yes we have two in the pipeline but another mid-round pick here rounds out the group for the future), QB (time to get serious about grooming a good backup QB or replacement for Cutler), WR (depends on how well Wilson turns out but we need something other than Weems down the depth chart and we can't keep paying Bennett $4mil/yr), RB (need to free up cap space from Bush and need backup for Forte as he'll have two years left on his contract but we all know RBs go downhill rapidly once it starts) and last we need a future C.

    Best drafts

Vikings were doing great until they gave up too much to take a WR who can't run routes. They could have stayed put and still picked up a very good WR in the 2nd rd. Patterson fits exactly what they had athletically with Percy Harvin but it seems they went out of their way to get him and I'd say they could have added two WRs who were more prepared to contribute this year (WR and KR/PR) with the picks they gave up plus they have one more draftee on the roster...CB?

    OLine/2013

I would say in an ideal world Carimi wins the starting RG job instead of Slauson. It's not a question of me wanting Carimi there rather with all the competition for Oline jobs if he does win a starting job it means our depth will be much better. We have competing for OG roster spots: Ebon Britton, Carimi, Brown, Slauson, Edwin Williams, and Long. We know Long is staying. Williams may also be competing for a slot as backup C but I expect he's gone. With the new rules preventing contact in practice nothing can be known until we get to training camp.
  7. After watching those highlights where he's still able to beat double coverage against teams like ASU and Oregon I'm impressed for a 7th rd pick. I know those defenses aren't Alabama talent but you still had guys like Dion Jordan, Kiko Alonso, and others out there who were pretty good athletes. Same goes for ASU. He needs to get stronger for sure but the team knows how to get that done and he has some good role models on the roster to learn from. He ran a 4.45 forty and is true "hands" catcher who can both track to the ball and go up high in traffic to make the tough catch...you typically don't find this combination late in the draft. We'll see if he can learn the offense and keep his head on straight but right now it appears Earl Bennett has one more year before we use his cap space elsewhere.

    OLine/2013

Not real confident in Mills, hard to say how well he run blocks since he was always in a 2pt stance. I think he's a backup for a year while he learns those techniques. Drafting means this is the end of seeing Carimi at OT. If they felt he could be our backup OG/OT then they would have gone elsewhere with this pick. Instead it looks as if he'll compete solely at OG.
  9. For a 6th rd pick he's good but he's got a lot to learn and I expect nothing from him this year. I see him on the practice squad.
  10. So is Garza to be honest and as the leader we can't completely dismiss him. I would love to see a guy like Schwenke come in and win the job from him. Garza stays on the roster IMO because of his leadership and versatility and if he were to end up our backup OG/C that could only mean good news IMO in terms of the quality of our line play for 2013.
  11. Give some of those hits on a couple read-option plays where the QB keeps the ball and they'll quit calling them.
  12. He's fast and violent. I like that. Have to see if I can find a game film of him to see how he handles blocks and plays away from him.
  13. Urlacher is a Hall of Fame LB but when you consider the drop off without him part of that is also the fact the LBs drafted, and we spend several mid-round picks on them under JA and Lovie, were horrible. We never had any depth and it was an achilles heel of our defense for the last few seasons.

    ya know what,

...and the Cowboys picked Frederick at #31 and he was ranked mid-50s too.
  15. If the list posted by Adam is accurate we didn't even have a private workout with Kyle Long. Keeping it all close to the vest again. Reid Fragel – OT – Ohio State Travis Frederick – OC – Wisconsin Edmond Kugbila – OG – Valdosta State Justin Pugh – OT/OG – Syracuse Brian Schwenke – OC – California -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I take that back. Listening to his conference call with the media he did visit with the Bears and said he felt pretty good about the Bears after he was done speaking with Kromer.
  16. Long still gets overextended on some blocks in space. I think Kromer needs to work with him for at least a year inside to fix some of his mechanics. The athletic ability is there. I'd be very happy if we got Schwenke. That would round out virtually a complete overhaul of the Oline in one offseason.
  17. Maybe you are on to something there because the Cowboys were rumored to be in the hunt for Oline help in Rd 1. I was surprised they took a C that early. Surprised all the way around at how early many of the Oline players went. http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2013rumorsteams_1.php April 14: Cowboys' writer Bryan Broaddus said that it's not likely that the Cowboys take D.J. Fluker at 18. He also said that a Chance Warmack-Eric Reid pairing is more likely than a Kenny Vaccaro-Larry Warford one. Broaddus also said the Cowboys like Kyle Long.
  18. Bradley never was a starter in college. If Kyle Long can navigate up and down stairs he may just be a better athlete than Bradley.
  19. Hand raised. He's better than Carimi ever was athletically. A couple things to note regarding him starting only 4 games at Oregon. He was not with their program in the spring so he had no spring camp to learn their offense. He basically started on their team in the fall practices, learned their offense, and by mid-season earned a starting role in a position he had very little experience playing. He is not as much of a project as might appear at first glance but he definitely has things to work on. I liked him in the 2nd Rd, 20 seems way early to me but he definitely has the athleticism to play OT in the NFL. I think he'll start simply because he doesn't have that much competition but he could be a backup for a year at OG while Kromer works with him and then slide out to RT or be our long term starter at OG. Lovie always got his projects on defense but the new coaches get their projects on offense.
  20. Tell that to Lovie and JA...
  21. I don't think we're done with Oline in this draft I still expect a C to be taken on Saturday. It's clear with Lovie out the door we are seeing a sea-change in our roster focus. We have now added 3 Oline this offseason, essentially let our best Oline from last season walk. There is going to be a lot of competition now and we could very well have 4 new starters on our Oline and if Scott beats out Webb we'd have 5. I think Garza could be beaten out by a rookie depending on who we get. If the competition is close for any Oline position, this staff is new they will want their future players on the field learning and improving. Same goes for Emery as he is now tied with Trestman and co.
  22. I would like to think he's our RT of the future but for sure he's starting out at OG. Doesn't say much for what the staff thinks of Carimi IMO.
  23. Kyle Long....early here. Kromer wants someone to mold into a Pro Bowl player.
