  1. Not at all, it was a horrible contract that bound the organization to a bad QB and kept the Bears from moving on or finding trade partners. The money was continually not only guaranteed for that year, but for the following year once a certain date was reached. It was a bad contract period. The Bears knew what they were getting with Cutler, and at least Brock as some potential to become better than mediocre. I'm not saying that I like Brock's contract, or that I would want him to QB a team I like. I'm just saying that Houston making a ridiculous contract doesn't make Emery's mistakes look better years down the road. Cutler should have been franchised, period. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Bears' salary cap was over 25 million than Houston's is now now. There is a team with a 50% higher salary cap now(Jacksonville $190 million) than the Bears had in 2014($133 million). That has inflated all the prices being paid this year . The Bears just paid what have been huge money a couple years ago for a tackling LB(that was maybe the 5th or 6th best player on his D). I'm fine with that signing, because prices are much higher this year and it improves the team.
  2. I don't see the Bears getting any comp picks because of all the ppl they will need to bring in. I wonder if the Jets would be interested in a TE or a QB.
  3. I've seen it as interested in trade also, so it's hard to tell. It's all gossip right now. They could have the scariest offense in the NFL with the additions of Forte, Bennett and return of Jordy Nelson.
  4. Putting my prejudice aside, I think this would be the year to trade him. He is coming off a year that he is getting praised for. His value should be higher than last year, without the risk of decline with an off year this year. His contract would be favorable to teams that trade for him as the guarantee money will just be in this first year, and it is a one to three year contract compared to two next year. The problem is, I don't many teams that would likely be in the market for him. Most teams that were in the market for QB have filled their need(Houston, Eagles, Redskins), likely looking to get younger(Saints, Browns), or have a biased against Cutler(Jets and Broncos). I am not sure I see a likely landing spot.
  5. Unless the Bears offer top dollar, I don't see Alshon signing before free agency. I think he isn't a fan of the front office after what happened with Marshall. I think he will want to test the waters, and I think there will be ppl offering a 1st round pick or more to sign him. If teams are smart they would. The Bears wasted a very high pick on White last year and he wasn't the first WR taken. He is unproven. Jeffery is proven and young, so I could see teams trying to negotiate for him. It will take a really good deal to get him signed before free agency. I think politically, Pace will say he is fighting hard to sign Jeffery to keep the fans on the Bears side.
  6. We probably all saw this one coming. I just hope they don't spend a first or second rounder to replace him or Forte like they did Marshall last year. He's near the top as all around TE's go despite an off year.
  7. I hope he will find a place to cement his HoF bid over there. I know other ppl have been comparing him to frank gore, but he was way more talented thand gore ever was, and in the right situation he could excel well above the praise he got here.
  8. Or they made enough in their career to retire. I have no doubt that Urlacher could still play, because he played well his last year injured. I think he and Briggs didn't want to move on and play some where else. They had enough money. With Urlacher, I think he was insulted by the Bears offer, had ones better but just retired. Briggs, I think he may have been like a Woodson that light things up in a different environment that motivated him and said screw it I will retire. I think Forte will get his most repect by national media this year, once he lights up the league once again, but does it on another team, he will be one of the biggest stories in the league.
  9. If you look at he Saints presently, I think there is a solid chance it could be 5. However, I think there could be a debate on how much power he has. He says he has absolute power, but made the Marshall move everyone said the owners pushed through. In this situation, it may be ok he doesnt have absolute power due to how the Saints look and hopefully Fox and company can add some better insite on who to take and build the team.
  10. Like in other threads, the Bears are not in a win now situation. I hate it everytime the Bears let a Bear go that can still play, Urlacher, Briggs, Tillman, and now Briggs in recent years. If they expected to win this year they would have offered him a contract, as he basically is and has been the Bears offense since he has been there. I hate to see him go too.

    Go Panthers!

The Broncos won a super bowl because of their d, when they got rid of our d minded coach Is it John Gruden inherriting a team or is it an indictment on Fox?
  12. To be honest, I thought White was going to be a bust going into the draft. If you add in a shattered leg, and I think chances are that he will be. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't want to see the Bears put their eggs in his basket. Royal is just a joke other than a few games a year.
  13. I think it's totally possible for the Bears to end up with an extra first this year. If Jeffery really doesn't want to be here, I haven't been keeping up but remember reading some where a while back that he doesn't, and another team comes along offering picks, he could be gone. WR's go pretty high in the draft, and I could see a team willing to pay a decent compensation for a WR of his caliber that is proven, vs taking a risk on a bust. I don't think they will pay the full franchise price, but I could see the Bears moving on, because they see it as if you aren't with the program then you can go some where else. Atleast that is the vibe i get. So we may be talking about who would you be mad at if these 2 ppl were taken with our first 2 picks instead of one.Just speculation on my part, as I haven't been keeping up as religiously. I think it's possible that he and the black unicorn could be gone by next year.
  14. I don't consider being in the play off hunt a contender. Some pitiful teams were there. I'm talking about going for the Super Bowl. The Bengals were a low end contender this year, while many horrible teams were in the play off hunt. If you're saying, would I still be interested in the team if they suffer from a QB controversy/lack of the theoretical rookie playmaker on D (which I don't think I have ever seen turn a D around), then yes I would. I would much rather not see the Bears compete for a playoff spot with near .500 teams with no chance of winning the Super Bowl, while having possibly the QB of the future and a better draft picks next year on a team that could use the higher selections.
  15. Are you honestly trying to say the Bears are an impact player away and a rookie one at that? That's literally the scenario you just put forth. There's not a single player in the league you could put on this team and make them a serious contender next year. JJ Watt could change his name, appearance, enter the draft under a fake name, and the Bears pick him with their first pick. The Bears still wouldn't be contenders next year. An impact D player doesn't give you that. Infact, great D's rarely last more than a year or 2, with Seattle recently being the exception. If they draft a QB in the first, I don't care if he is the next Peyton Manning or becomes the next Ryan Leif. They at least acknowledged the problem and are trying to address the situation. Even if you are confident in Jay Cutler now, he will be 33 next month. When will the team be a contender? Will it be in 2 more years when he is 35? What do you do the next year when he is 36 or when he is 37? The position needs addressed for the future and not just because of Cutler's mediocrity. Once the Bears do draft a QB, it will likely take 2 or 3 more years of playing before he can start to reach his potential. A QB has a huge learning curve due to how the position is taught in college and the demands of an NFL QB.
  16. That would be about the only pick that would bring me back from casually paying attention to the Bears to an avid fan again, or at the very least interested in the team. It's hard to get behind regime after regime that hitch their wagon to Cutler, when I'd prefer to never watch another Cutler lead team again.
  17. Another team that will be in the Jeffery Market.
  18. Thanks for reminding me of that movie, I had forgot about it. I finally watched it tonight, and the initial trade of 2 1sts and a 3rd was reminiscent of the Cutler trade. I liked the movie, but thought the rest of the trades made were highly unlikely and kind of hurt the movie for me. Poor Jacksonville getting treated like an inept franchise and making bad moves and Seattle wanting the 6th pick for such a high price to move up one spot, right after the Browns traded Jacksonville 3 2nds was just way too unrealistic. If they liked the QB that much, they would have never traded out of the first pick. That said, what happened to all of the QB's in this years draft that everyone was talking about last year? Everyone was talking about screw trying to go after Marriotta, like in the movie, that there would be much better prospects going through multiple rounds this year. Yet, this draft comes and it seems like there isn't a plethora QBs, or even one, that is a better prospect then him.
  19. Don't forget about Mike Tice. He was the last OC promoted from within.
  20. One was an unsuccessful coach with the Browns and Jags, and the other was an unsuccessful coach with the Browns and Titans.
  21. I would love to know 10 of the 50. Amos will probably never start again within 3 years, when they have time to get the talent on the team they want, probably even next year. Marshall was busy dominating. I can name a few. Gould who sucks now. he was the catalyst for the whole the locker room doesn't like him thing. He's just sour because he was called just a kicker when Marshall was busy trying to get the team fired up and start winning. Briggs who was gone and retired, that was too done with football to pay attention to marshall. Forte acted like he could careless about him. Jay Cutler, who Marshall spent years taking his side and getting his back, then he finally called him out on needing to step up and he really needed to. I also think it's funny when PPL talk about how Marshall hasn't been in the playoffs, yet he was straddled with Cutler that has been there what, like once, a Miami team that hasn't been there forever, and a Jets team that over achieved this year and should have been.
  22. Honestly, he may be a good HC. I just don't understand the interest in him. He didn't impress me as an OC given that he worked with Manning and the Bears lackluster offense this year. Manning basically runs his own offense. His connections is his big draw I guess. He has worked under a very impressing coaching list. He just hasn't shown why he would be such a hot commodity to me, but I guess I'm not in the behind the scenes NFL know. To me, Fangio would be the coordinator from the Bears I would be drooling over to be a HC. I also don't understand them bringing in a HC before a GM. I do think Tannehill can be a top 10 QB with some good direction, and even this year his stats would have been a dream line for cutler with over 4k yards and a 2:1 TD to int ratio. We have never had a season with either with Cutler.I think Gase has some talent to work with and I'd like to see him turn the team around. They have just been making bad coaching decisions for years, and hope they didn't again.
  23. As long as we don't lose Fangio, then I'm happy. The guy is a genius and really shined bright at times this year considering the talent at hand. He's my favorite coach the Bears have had since Da Coach was here.
  24. It was a horrible idea. Marshall is and will be a great player for a few years to come and was being a good teammate and mentor by organizing his offseason stuff and taking Jeffery under his wing. He even included Jeffery this year after had left for another team. Sadly, that may not be the biggest blunder from this front office. Have a look at New Orleans talent and team this year. We got the brightest bulb from their tree, that built that hunk of junk team, as our GM. Hopefully he can prove me wrong, but I'm not too high on Pace. Marshall's year just reinforces that to me.
