  1. Former Nebraska CB Alonzo Denard got into a fight outside a bar in Lincoln Neb and pushed and punched a cop who was trying break up the fight. He was rated to go between the 2nd and 4th roundby some scouts. That thud you hear is his draft stock hitting the ground. BTW Is it me or does it seem that most of the defensive players that have character issues as prospect usually don't change on the next level ? Pacman Jones,Tank Johnson,Parrish Cox and Aquib Taleb of the top of my head in recent memory.
  2. Nice story but,I'm still skeptical about his play on the field in the heat of battle. The introverted part of his personality bothers me also and the fact that the incident about his teammate and friend points to a lack of grief counseling for situations like that allows it to stick with him. The personal fouls is a big problem and with the league on high alert this might be a player that you draft and do the" red shirt" thing to make him understand what it is to be a professional player. I can't believe that some of the defense wants to baby sit any rookies when they see their window of opportunity closing soon.
  3. Since he got here after the season there was nothing he could do in that regard of implementing his value system right now, don't be surprised if some personnel moves are made shortly after the draft. When you have scouts out in the field during the college season and you show up after they have done most of their evaluations and are preparing for the Combine, what can you do to change their minds at that time? You have come in to an organization that has told you that you have to accept the current HC for one more year so you know that he didn't have much say with the scouting staff that was in place when he arrived.
  4. I know that and hope that I didn't come across as going against your post but,I basically was kind of poking fun with the Patriot way since they haven't won a SB since the early part of this decade. Most of these so called systems work when a franchise happens to have a HOF player fall into their lap. The Patriot way hasn't worked since Cory Dillon from another team's way came to them via FA.I personally think the packer way isn't bad but they just didn't make it to the SB as the only team to go 15 and 1 in NFL history.Yes they both have been in the playoffs consistently but,I want to see a SB winner.
  5. I would be okay with this draft except in RD 4 I would try and pluck Kheeston Randle from Texas to backup the block eating role at DT.
  6. Call me a ball buster but Jim Finks 1975 draft produced 9 starters out of 17 picks, what was his grading system?Who in the league now evaluates talent like he did? From the mid 60's to his days with the Saints in late 80's he was a master IMO. Our 75 draft yielded: Payton ,Mike Hartenstine,Virgil Livers, Revie Sorey, Bob Avellini Tom Hicks ,Doug Plank and Roland Harper. These guys were all starters on that 77 break the playoff drought team.
  7. I just watched a program on NFL Network a couple of days ago about steals in the draft. We are currently in an era that has only 7 rounds but since I first started following the draft in the 60's I can remember 17 rounds. Guys like Bart Starr,Deacon Jones,Roland Harper and Doug Plank off the top of my head were all late round guys back then. Lucky Lou did some great research but there have been some guys that he listed that had solid careers that were listed that never made the pro bowl or an all pro team. The 83 draft produce for the Bears what was rated the number 3 draft of all time on NFL Network and that same draft produced some solid players and HOF players and in that draft Dan Marino was taken after the 20th pick as well as 8th rounder Richard Dent and in the same round WR Mark Clayton by Miami in the same round. Then if we factor in all the Curt Warner's and Gary Fencik's of the world you have to realize that now you have more ways to build a team but the draft should still be your main avenue to success.
  8. He is 6-3 260 which may be weight room weight, do you really think that the 3-4 teams at the end of the first round will let him get to the second round? I also want to add that Boise St. hasn't really been very productive on the defensive side over the years. As a matter of fact Boise St. prospects have not been looked at favorably by scouts. If I had a choice of a player from Boise St. this year it would be the OT Potter and RB Martin would be second.
  9. Don't quit your day job! He sang the 7th inning stretch and sounded as if he was tone deaf. He also mentioned that he originally wore number 85 his rookie year and changed to 80 because he liked Jerry Rice and he felt 80 fit him better. Since he was basically redshirted his rookie year I never remember him wearing 85.
  10. I say no because you would probably have to give up 3 picks. 2 this year and 1 next year.
  11. He is a 3-4 OLB IMO and doesn't fit our scheme. This is definetly a smokescreen. This guy does remind me of Clay Matthews and Conner Barwin. Both guys are playing OLB in 3-4 schemes.
  12. Thats exactly what I'm thinking.
  13. There are reports that OT prospect Mike Adams tested positive at the Combine for Marijuana. This is after being arrested in 2009 for possessing drug paraphenalia and add this to the receiving improper benefits suspension and we have what should be a guy with major character issues. He should not only drop out of the first round but he should be pulled off a few draft boards all together.
  14. So can that be related to scheme also? Protecting a franchise player whether its a QB ,RB or MLB is on the coaches not the GM who should provide the coaches with the talent that they need. Just name one non-injured O-lineman that the Bears could have acquired to replace a current starter that would allow you to add what has been added and trade for Brandon Marshall and make you happy.
  15. What I have learned over the year of watching this sport is that when a player is out of the lineup in game three that means all the fans that have an opinion about him need to come up with more from previous years to justify their opinions. Because it is offensive line and the Bears its a "Hot Button"issue but his is a more realistic view of how Roy Williams should have been viewed.
  16. Your last statement sums everything up about how you feel. JA has just about all of us confused when if we really look at what this current GM has done it doesn't mirror what JA has done in the FA period. He would try and make a big splash and then shut it down this guy continues to add bodies and anyone who has a 1 year deal is guaranteed nothing. Better yet there was no Lovie spin press conference to talk about this addition.
  17. This is my time of the year because of how I grew up. My dad was a big magazine reader and brought home Who's Who in baseball and Street and Smith Football prevue. He would read it and I guess win a couple of bar arguements but I would digest the info as if nothing else mattered. It makes me believe that I love this process more than any other talent evaluation process of the other sports. I am a former baseball and (16inch Chicago-style) softball player that loves football on all levels and wish I had played the game as a youngster. WTBS as a person who never played the game I have to ask my friends and family their opinions and do some research plus watch the games and listen to what is being said. Thanks for a nice compliment. Coming from a passionate straight shooter like yourself ,I appreciate it.
  18. Yep! We heard that they wanted to create competition at certain positions and now you see it. DON'T WE ALL THINK THAT THIS LINE NEEDS TO BE CHALLENGED FOR THEIR STARTING SPOTS?
  19. If someone is saying Jax then that is smokescreen. With their pass rush issues and low sack total, I don't care how well you can cover you need a pass rush to take the pressure off the DBs. The averaged 2.75 sacks per game that isn't impressive.
  20. Great post! A bold move backed up by subtle moves that may be adding some hungry guys to the mix. I like this approach and because of his predecessor(sp?) I still have the lets wait and see approach. I like Ingram but I don't think he fits our scheme because he seems like a rush LB. This may be due dilligence to maximize the value of our pick.
  21. Wagner is also being considered as someone rising up draft boards don't be surprised if he sneaks up to day 2. His rise is similar to McClellin of Boise St. and Chandler Jones of Syracuse.
  22. Right! its a fricken 1 year deal that can't be worth that much now.
  23. Remember when there was rumors about Vince Young's low score as well as the leaking of former Bengal Pat McInerney getting a perfect score. Wunderlic scores isn't the only thing that is being leaked. The information from Janoris Jenkins background check is out in the public now and we have posted comments about it. When he was at the Combine I had no idea that he had a lot of kids spread around but that info is out now. I just thought he was like a lot of pro athletes who like to smoke weed. Evidently he didn't curtail his partying ways in Alabama and that is sad because there are highlights of him out jumping Alshon Jeffrey for a ball. A couple of years ago there was an OT prospect from Abilene Christian named Tony Washington who was rated by some draft sites as the 20th ranked prospect overall. This kid goes from rated 20th to undrafted. Why? His background check went to all the teams that he had sex with an under-age girl and rumors persist that she was related to him.He was taken off eveyone's draft board and this info was never leaked to the media because of his impending legal troubles related to this issue.I found out after continuing to search his name. I'm just waiting for some info to come out about Bruce Irvin that exposes his bad side.
  24. Agreed. All we heard was that no OLineman had been signed and after the first one some negativity before he is even on the field. Wow! 38 games started out of 55 played and he is Omiyale. When this kid came out of USC he was considered a top prospect at his position. 8 games as a rookie,15 as a 2nd yr player 14 as a 3rd yr player and 3 last year under a new coach. A new coach trying to change the culture may have also brought a different blocking schem and realized that he didn't fit. Lets keep this in perspective and see just what Tice has in mind because I have to believe that he is on board with this pickup regardless of what we think on this board.
