  1. I disagree because so far he has done nothing to suggest that he was worthy of being a first round pick. He was on his second team since being drafted and basically playing special teams. True first round talent don't play his role on special teams.
  2. Wasn't Billick in Baltimore? Yes he was the OC when Green was there and what he did in Baltimore wasn't impressive on offense.
  3. Wesson all I'm asking you to do is respond(even when you feel you are being attacked) with something a little less harsh.Saying that his neck injury should have made him less likely to attack you is a bit much. We all are impassioned about the Bears but, We shouldn't wish personal harm on each other. I realize that he said you were brain dead( which I didn't think was right also) because you didn't read his post completely and then his next post explained why he made the comments that he posted and that was based on his feeling that you didn't read his entire post.
  4. Bates is not the OC and Mike Tice is. We have to research what Minnesota did when he was there as the HC and as the TE/OL coach when Dennis Green was there.Chris Carter, Randy Moss and Robert Smith. Jeff George,Randall Cunningham and Dante Culpepper were the QBs. There wasn't a lot of rolling out on those teams. There may have been plays made when two of these QBs had to scramble but ther wasn't a lot of designed rollouts.
  5. Jason Campbell ? Hmmmmm! Seriously this is a more versatile replacement for Roy Williams and the comments about him being a first round talent is untrue because he was drafted in the second round and has yet to realize his potential.Part may be due to his different QBs every other game but it may also be due to the fact that Michigan State WRs have been over-hyped through the years. Thats why I believe that the kid there now named BJ Cunningham is not rated so high even thoug he has a QB that is considered a early/late second day pick. I liked Cunningham as a late pick for the Bears but if you have Thomas who IMO is the same type of player with experience in the league see if you can catch lightning in a bottle. Yes I have had a few cocktails but, I would bring Roy Williams back to TC to at the least see if what he did at the end of the season can be something to look forward to.
  6. Lets take this perspective. Matt Forte was the 44th overall pick in the 2008 draft. The Bears have been in the playoffs 1 time since he has been on the team and the focal point of the offense.IMO he can't take the Bears to the SB alone.Walter Payton for all the great things he did for the Bears couldn't get the Bears to the SB alone he needed the Willie Gaults ,Dennis Mc Kinnons,Emery Mooreheads,Tim Wrightmans,Ken Margerums and Matt Suheys to get there on offense.Back then there wasn't FA movement so players were bound to one team so this situation is a little different. With Teddy coming out and saying the team has a fair offer on the table(which is what he is supposed to say) and knowing this team has signed all its draft picks before TC every year since Benson tells me that he may be truthful when he says the contract is fair.WTBS there were 2 games that the Bears should have won without Forte and a lot of this discussion would not matter if they would have made the playoffs. A combination of Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson got this team to the SB with Rex Grossman at QB.
  7. This post is not intended to insult or criticize you Wesson but when you make post like this without checking the Bears roster first it leaves you open to critical comments. When you look at the roster you will see the name Max Komar there as well. This doesn't mean he will make the team but he is on the roster and has been omitted from your post. BTW your post about Jason and his health was totally inappropriate and you should refrain from making comments like that in the future.
  8. Prior to the Combine what did you know about Hill? Whenever one of these prospects goes from a 4th rd projection to a late first you have to start to research what he did during the season. 28 catches for 820 yds last season which averages out to a 29.2 yds per catch net. Thats a pretty high average so that tells you that he ran a lot of deep routes. The other problem is that most of his career yardage came this past season from a triple option offense. He is decribed by scouts as a beast of a blocker but is limited on his route running because of the offense heplayed in. Now we have to project him learning a more sophisticated passing offense with Drake coaching him up and I'm not too optomistic of his coaching abilty. How well has he done with Knox and Hester? Hill is an upside prospect and will need to be coached up. I can't see that being worthy of a 19th pick. I got no question that Floyd can make the transition. I would prefer they take a guy in the second or third that is a little more polished as a route runner. Some scouts are comparing him to Derius Heyward-Bey. I think he is more along the lines of fellow Ga Tech alum D. Thomas of Denver who is still a work in progress. The Bears need a guy that should be able to contribute right away.
  9. His contract is up after this year also. That would be an interest move since they are discussing changes to the IR rules at the owners meetings.I have heard that they are considering allowing players on IR during TC not counting against the roster during that time and then you will have the abilty to activate the player during the season similar to PUP list but must cut someone to create a roster spot.

    Coby Fleener

Agreed he is basically considered a receiving TE and not much of an in line blocker which is the knock on most TEs coming into the league. I agree with most of the scouts assessment and that is there really isn't a first round talent at the position this year.
  11. You take your time and focus on the draft for now and then there should be another round of veteran cuts just before TC that maybe based on those with significant reporting bonuses. there also may be a player or 2 who have workout bonuses that may kick once the OTAs start.
  12. Great point! That is the one glaring weakness to Forte's game scoring TDs in goaline situations and short yardage gains.Though his yards per carry is 4+,that basically occurs on first and second down between the 20s. A lot of Forte's career TDs have come on big plays. And yes they have replaced him at the goaline with Chester Taylor and Marion Barber. The last 2 OCs both would opt to do this and even at times when Forte was in the game they would attempt to call other players numbers or pass 3 straight times while most of us were confused as to why they weren't using Forte.
  13. According to NFL Network Drew Stanton has taken his "Dougie" to Indy. Terms of the deal have not been announced.
  14. That would be great, I'm just unclear as to what 3rd rounder the Bears gave up for Marshall. I've seen where its the first one or Carolina's in mocks which is in the 70's and I think the original Bears pick is 81 I believe which if that is so it will move up one because of the Saints fofeiting their second rounder. I just have a feeling some 3-4 team will make him a reach in the mid second. He could be the Jason Pierre-Paul of this year's draft.
  15. This is the first offseason since I have been here on this board and the old board that there has been some solid buzz daily. The NFL has kept all of its fans on their collective toes since the end of the season. There has been something newsworthy just about everyday since the end of the season starting with JA getting launched to the current FA frenzy now. I can honestly say that this has kept me stoked and I love it because of all the sports to follow this one does it for me. How does everyone else feel about this?
  16. His blistering 40 time at the Combine of 4.43 at 245 pounds opened eyes. For some scouts to project him to OLB is a stretch since he has never done anything other than DE. He feels he would need to add more weight to be even a situational pass rusher. Lovie went to the pro day and now he is scheduled to come to Halas Hall. The biggest knock on him is his checkered past dropping out of HS and spending time in "Juve" for what he says was "Running with the wrong crowd". He eventually got a GED and went to Mt. San Antonio JC before enrolling at W Va.
  17. Agreed and I also believe that what his body went through last year injury-wise may have also contributed to the decision. I'm glad he in essence tapped out now because it shows that he doesn't have the desire that this team needs going forward.
  18. Bush's deal is reportedly 14 Million for 4years with 7 guaranteed. The rest of the contract is 1.75 mil per year.If you prorate the bonus for the first 2 years thats 5.25 million a year more than 2 million less than what Forte is tagged for. Forte being pissed is about as important as you and me being pissed. The Bears have the ability to franchise him again next year so If he truly wants to leave sign the tender and ask for a trade.Don't do it threw the social media. More importantly is the Bears now don't have to do anything because he is franchised and they have Bush and Barber under contract. Don't get me wrong I believe Forte is the best Bears RB since Neal Anderson and would hate to see him go but,I've been a Bear fan longer than he has been living.
  19. I wasn't sure but you just solidified my thinking. Webb should not have been on the field at one position one year and then arguably the second most important position on the field the very next year after starting off as a longshot and project from a school that didn't have big time competition. In reality the Bears had 2 players in the starting lineup that should have been eased in slowly but was given big time rolls before they were ready. Thats Louis and Webb, then throw in Knox also who needed to be coached up and you have some plays where there were 3 and 4 players that would be on the field that were raw.

    Pick one

On the film clips that I saw he looked small(in weight) and athletic as opposed to Reiff who looked big and slow. Martin has the movement and the feet that translate to a LT.
  21. Yeah but then he would have to compete with Blount for playing time. I won't say I want him traded I just want him to stop the whoa is me crap. If he signs the tender he will be guaranteed 7.7+ million.
  22. I guess those comments he made about if he was tagged no one would no where he is at was BS.
  23. The Chargers let LT go as did the Cowboys with Emmett Smith who was the NFL all time leading rusher. This is a business decision.
  24. I'm not trying to bust your chops,I'm just saying that Bell is an undrafgted FA that has lasted this long. He basically took Garrett Wolfe's place. This is an upgrade and a warning to Forte that if he holds out that we have someone in place to keep going. It worked in 85 and it can work now. In 85 the Bears DL was Hartenstine, Hampton,Mc Michael and Dent. So what did our GM do? He drafted the Fridge and the coaches made it work. That year we had a pro bowl safety and a solid OLB holdout the whole season. The franchise has stood its ground on financial matters then and are no different now.So far Emery has made so pretty smart moves and I'm liking the direction he is going.
  25. Barber blew 2 games. The KC game he had a key penalty that nullified a TD he caught because he lined up wrong. If we are worried about if the 3rd string RB is retained then this team is in trouble. Bell is a good end of the roster player, nothing more. If he was he would have received an offer that the Bears couldn't match. The way he was tender just gives the Bears the right of first refusal and no compensation.
