That would be absurd! But kinda awesome to consider...lol

Yes the knock on him is his inability to read defenses. But that is also why he was projected early on as a third round prospect. The one thing he is not; careless. According to the below article, while Hurts played in the OU offense last year he was 77% accurate on passes in the 11-15 yard range and ended up with a 192 QBR. (7th best in FBS history). In another article, OU HV Coach Riley was credited with “opening up the field for him”. He added; “Fundamentally, I’ve had to very little for him.” Many would say he’s a perfect fit for the RPO / WCO style offense that Nagy runs. As far as leadership I’d say look no further than all four years he played he went to the FBS playoffs. One of those he came in as a backup to win after Tua went down with an injury. Many “experts” admit to him needing time to develop and not be forced into playing right away. Couldn’t ask for a better scenario in Chicago. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2020/4/22/21219687/jalen-hurts-nfl-draft-2020-oklahoma-alabama

This will come as a shock to you but I agree with Perez on this. In my mind he’s better than Trubisky is or will be. I see a mix of Prescott and Watson and several of us liked both coming out of college...yet neither plays for the Bears. This would be a safe save for Paces career (IMHO). With his stock starting to rise right now the Bears would be wise to get him in the second...if they can.

Part of the Bucs need is at OT. Maybe they could be convinced Leno AND a low round draft pick would sweeten the deal? I know a certain guy from NY that would approve. *update*: Jason LaCanfora said that the Patriots are hot to trot to get Howard. And apparently the Redskins were right on the verge of getting Howard with a trade that involved Trent Williams before Gronk went to Tampa. They are still considered as interested. We can’t compete with that firepower. Williams from the Redskins or multiple draft picks to choose from with the Pats... oy vey.

SS is the first position of need. Disagree that because Graham is on the list TE isn’t higher on the list. Unless they find a another younger TE through FA or trade (like OJ Howard) they still need a talented player to develop. We might be lucky to get one or two years (tops) out of Graham. The way this offense needs to run (especially if Trubisky is expected to run it) with more intermediate level receivers, you practically need to double your talent in the mid-range. TEs and big WRs fit that niche. And as much as it pains me to admit (this is where Jason magically reappears) Tackle is high in the list (shout out to NYC). I know Pace feels he’s set with Massie and Leno but he’s wrong.

When I originally thought of trading Trubisky it was more with Jacksonville. Was thinking of a straight up trade with them for Fournette. Thing is it appears Jacksonville is turning into an all out dumpster fire. So who knows what could be gotten from them? Hell even Robinson is making a play for former teammate and recently released WR Marquise Lee. https://www.bigcatcountry.com/2020/4/21/21229602/jacksonville-jaguars-daily-allen-robinson-responds-to-marqise-lee-being-cut

‘What if’ Belichick does as you suggest then waits until Shaheen is cut and adds him...then makes another 10 year run with both of them as key ingredients for 5 more SB wins? As the kids say nowadays...FML
-
Do you have a list of unknown D2 school players I could look at? Knowing Pace that’s where a majority of my five would come from.
-
This...absolutely no value to anyone.
-
Again...hmmm. Was going to pose this (or a similar question) but passed for fear of flaming... lol Wonder if the Bears looking for a QB isn’t on their radar (or should be) for this year? Like a Jalen Hurts... or Fromm... ???
-
The irony in all this is hilarious!
-
And what’s more, in relation to OJ Howard he’s been on the trading block for a “few weeks” and initially it sounds as though TB had hoped to get at least a second round pick “straight-up”. Now they might settle for some lesser picks. Howard’s due to get a measly $1.8 million this year. Again...hmmm.
-
Yeah just saw this too. Explains more why OJ Howard would be available. Hmmm.. ? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/rob-gronkowski-reportedly-reuniting-with-tom-brady-after-patriots-and-buccaneers-pull-off-shocking-trade/

And I wonder if the Bears had managed to pull off a trade with Tennessee for Mariota (straight up) what might have been for either of them? Now we’ll see how Mariota does if he gets a chance to play. That being said, when I read your comment the first thing that came to mind was ‘what if the Bears were to make a straight up trade with Cleveland for Baker Mayfield’? I’m not sure why I thought it other than to think both QBs need a new start (Cleveland is and will remain a hot mess) and despite my not liking him, Mayfield I feel has a lot more upside to him than Mitch.

At first I was a bit skeptical of this idea. With recent developments I’m beginning to rethink this. This article speaks on some valid points and besides OJ Howard suggests current Brown TE David Njokwu. With the Bucs needing an OT the Browns reason for ridding of a potential high ceiling tight end like Njokwu? Their signing of Austin Hooper to a load of money. https://dawindycity.com/2020/04/17/chicago-bears-rumors-trey-burton-release-big-move/ One other ironic tidbit of interesting trivia . ESPN Sports Science did a piece on Njoku when he came out of college. Their NFL comparison at the time? Jimmy Graham.

But...you up your chances at winning hour bet. ?
-
If that’s true (bolded) then yes it makes sense. But simply letting him go wouldn’t have been prudent. As far as Howard and his being on his third team in three years; is it better to be on your third team in four years like Graham? Who appears to now be our starting TE. The rest of the releases you talk about make sense and I agree with, which is the majority of your original list. Maybe Pace is getting better with time? Still don’t know...
-
In this particular instance I’d agree but the devil’s advocate in me suggests the Howard and Amos releases were not as beneficial. As we stand two seasons removed from his leaving, we’re still looking for a replacement to Amos. And the argument can be made that Howard wasn’t a ‘fit to Nagy’s offense’ but have we actually identified what that offense is? One that supports 40 passes to 10 runs? Sure Howard doesn’t fit that type of offense. Hell Trubisky may not even fit the offense, yet here he is. I think a ‘Howard like’ player is still needed to work the interior running.
-
Looks like you’re right. Found this PFF scouting report on him. Says he’s ‘strong as an ox’ and good if anchored to the ground. Not so good in movement and has a tendency to over-extend. If the team goes primarily to a run game maybe he’s good at the outside position(?) But I’m with you, probably better on the interior. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2632418-jason-spriggs-nfl-draft-2016-scouting-report-grade-for-packers-rookie

Im not one who necessarily thinks CB is a need. I agree that Tolliver can rise to the occasion. But when you said Joseph I had to ask myself; ‘who the hell is that guy’? Turns out he’s been a practice roster guy the Bears picked up after he went undrafted out of the University of Dubuque. (Sounds to me like another attempt by Pace to get cute). Anyhow the only way he made the active roster last year was after 9 other players had been put on IR. So I’m not sure he’s the solution for depth...unless you’re talking 3rd string on down. Probably why they signed players like Roberson and Burns. Yes it’s possible we have our two backups on the roster for ILB. But I’m not as sure as you are. And to allay Mongos concerns, I wasn’t suggesting a high draft pick to fill that void. Maybe a later round maybe a pickup up post draft. Early round picks will be for some Offensive help and SS.
-
Now that’s funny. I don’t care who you are. ?
-
Besides the stuff I brought up for Stinger; one other thing that should be taken into consideration is that both your inside starters were lost during periods of last years’ season . Not only do you need depth, you potentially are looking at starting depth.

Bond is listed as an OLB. Since 2017 he’s had 39 tackles, 3 of those coming last year. To be fair, KPL is also listed as an OLB but he’s had two seasons where he’s had at least 37 tackles; last year and in 2017 when he played for KC. So maybe Pagano can conjure up some magic in a guy who so far has underperformed? Maybe. And Iggy and Woods are leftover from when Fangio was king and neither has done much, even then. Doubtful we’ll see much more. I will thank you for forcing me look up some of this as I had forgotten the Bears signed Mingo (also an OLB) who although himself an under-performer, is at least a first round pick variety. I know that sounds snarky but it’s not, I actually have hope for his playing better. He’s at least averaged a few seasons of 45 (or so) tackles. That’s depth worthy.

Well as the article indicates, Arians has no need for TEs in his offense. And besides they still have Brate. In looking at a few of their ‘Talk’ pages the Bucs are in need of a Tackle. Their first hope is to move up in the draft. Their pawn? OJ Howard.
