  1. At this point and after hearing Wentz would prefer Indy over Chicago, I’m ok with bowing out of trying to get him. Really for him the better of the two scenarios are with the Colts. The Bears should focus more on the oline and other needs (like on defense). And aim lower for a capable QB like Mariota. I saw a brief mention of him being available in some capacity. Whatever ends up happening the Bears need to draft a QB in the later rounds if not 1st or 2nd.
  2. Honestly I see him as a potential interim HC if (and when) Nagy blows it before the halfway point of next season. And really how difficult would it be to notice the difference if one day Nagy left and the next Petrine showed up? They look like they could be brothers.
  3. My next door neighbor who is a GB fan let me know the Bears just hired recent GB scapegoat Mike Pettine as a "Senior Defensive consultant" (or something rather). Hmmm... https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/bears/ct-chicago-bears-mike-pettine-senior-defensive-assistant-20210210-xq3ygx5dq5bovjsv4e7qumf2xu-story.html
  4. Question: what do you think the catalyst was for Pedersen getting fired? Just the general disarray of the team or that he flopped on the replacing of Wentz with Hurts? If it’s the second reason I wonder whether his credibility is intact enough to give the Bears a good assessment of Wentz’ ability? Allegedly before he was fired he said he wanted Wentz to return as the starter next year. Which leads me to believe why not only was he fired but why the Eagles are willing to let Wentz go for only peanuts. And really the year they won the SB was with Foles, not Wentz.
  5. Wow, no Oline until the 6th round? Are you sure your account hasn’t been hacked? I would think at this point Trvevathan is more a weakness than either Urban or Nichols are (and I live Danny). But I see you addressed the ILB position in the second and with a Bama guy no doubt - nice. If we’re only focusing on defense I’d think they might want to look at a FS type player (I don’t know where from yet) just to lite a fire under Jackson a bit. He’s gotten a bit lax this last season especially. Maybe if he thought they were looking to replace him he’d get back to his 2018 self.
  6. Yeah I broke my wrist twice (non dominant hand) and you're spot on, no amount of repair or healing has helped it to feel just right. I can't imagine if it was in my right hand how that would complicate things like throwing; yet his was on his non-throwing side so again not sure if that figures in. I've also never benefited from the marvels of science at the disposal of NFL teams these days. As I sit here now I'm on week 8 of a broken left fibula and just started to walk with my walking boot a few weeks back...but then I'm also almost 51 and way removed from my more athletic years... lol. Then you have Alex Smith who nearly had his leg amputated and came back to the win the "Return Player of the Year" this season. I think with injuries you fall into two categories. Players like RGIII or Drew Brees. On the one hand you have RGIII who I think was projecting upward until he started getting injured more in the NFL and his career sorta derailed after it. Especially when his strongest attribute, his legs, were impaired. Where with Brees and his multiple injuries this year not withstanding, he's had a few significant injuries to his throwing shoulder (2005 labrum tear and 2015 rotator cuff tear) and still has been able to do what he's done. With Wentz the number of injuries in the relative short span is concerning. The one common denominator to Wentz and RGIII are the concussions which may or may not be a huge factor; RGIII has so far had three to Wentz' one - and for reference Jay Cutler had four in his career. I'd have to think if anything the concussion may have played into his regression. Especially knowing it was at the end of last season. Concussions are indeed a dangerous and unpredictable animal.
  7. Forgot possibly the biggest factor; Nagy and Arians. They win that one hands down.
  8. Not sure what I think of getting Wentz at this point. I remember rumors were that Pace was making a try for him back when he was drafted so I’m not too surprised he still has a ‘GM-crush’ on him. Of course he also did for Mariota and we don’t have him so there’s that. As far as the weapons available; I agree If they can do whatever they need to keep ARob that is a definite goal they should focus on. I also read the other day that Jimmy Graham wants to finish his time out in Chicago. Say what you will about the guy but he is a definite red zone threat. And despite Nagys misuse of him early on he still showed an improvement from his time in GB with Rodgers as his QB. So if he can make good with the mess we have in our offense then he’s a keeper in my book.
  9. I had there might have been a rumor that Philly was interested in seeing Foles come back. Pace might thing he’d be getting a good deal if her were to trade them straight up...or something hair-brained like that. Of course i believe that was before Pedersen got canned so maybe that’ll be our saving grace.
  10. He played back up to Marquise Williams while at NC. Who since leaving NC has been in the NFL, AAF and XFL. Need not say more.
  11. I’m with Stinger on this; total opinion piece. There are teams that are WAY too unpredictable like Cleveland and Pittsburgh to rate them higher than what the Bears are at. And really GB is one Aaron Rodgers injury or retirement away from turning into the next 2020 Patriots. When you throw in COVID and all the things associated with that I’d say this season was a ‘one off’. To me the Bears aren’t as bad as people think they are. You just need a DC that can make the best of the players you have and call plays on the offense that match your players skillset. It was obvious to me at least that the offense ran a lot more effectively under Lazor than it did with Nagy. And as much a fan as I was of Pagano it’s possible he wasn’t able to adjust his scheme to how the offenses are running today. Maybe this new guy can.
  12. So now that Stafford is LA bound and provided this was true, does that set a barometer on the Bears chances for legitimate trade opportunities of other available QBs like Watson? Watson has to be worth more than what LA gave up for Stafford. (???) And since Chicago didn’t pull this off...maybe they’ll have to focus more on the draft?
  13. Hey wasn’t Carimi from Wisconsin? I still have some PTSD from that experience.
  14. I’m all in on a ‘trade for Watson’ scenario. But realize the uphill battle the Bears face in doing it given their current financial state and frankly the state of the team with Nagy and Pace still leading the way. But... saw this article (below) earlier and had heard talk of it elsewhere as a ‘what if’? Essentially it would be a three way trade deal with Houston, Miami and Chicago. In the deal Tua would end up in Chicago and Watson in Miami; from what I’ve read of two teams he’s interested in Miami is the more appealing to him. I get that Tua is a bit of a risk for his injury history but I think the only reason they cut him short last season was mostly for preservation and their season ended when they lost to the Bills in week 15 or 16(?). He comes from a reputable school in Alabama with a 1-1 championship record (similar to Watson). He fits most of the Bill Parcell’s model of a successful transfer from collegiate to NFL success (at least three years starter in college being one - one cut short by injury and the first abbreviated by Hurts’ lackluster performance forcing Tua to play earlier than planned). And wouldn’t cost a whole lot in cap space - If I understand that correctly. *edit: when I read the article the first time I thought the proposal involved the Bears giving up their 1st for 2022 not 2021. So there’s that. With this trade proposal you could still get the O-line you want/need through the draft and any other complimentary players needed (to include another lower round QB). Although it’s not clear where Mitch would end up in the scenario (doesn’t matter) you’d still have Foles available if needed. https://heavy.com/sports/chicago-bears/proposed-trade-deshaun-watson-tua-tagovailoa/
  15. Yeah I thought the same thing. Amazing how much different the game could have been had Mooney been playing.
  16. Good thought. Allegedly when Brady left NE, Chicago was a team he was considering going to. What type of negotiation was involved to get him to go to TB? Was it simply the weather?
  17. Is that supposed to make me feel better about the Bears in that same span of time? Arians has been 58-33 (including his interim HC time in Indy and Arizona) and had three playoff appearances. And we know how the Mahomes vs. Trubkisky rages on.
  18. This sounds almost identical to what was being said about Mahomes coming out. He was a bit riskier of a gunslinger type player (like Winston) but more mature. I’d agree with you that he might be worth a try but I’m not sure the Bears can afford to risk it again.
  19. Since this is the ‘championship weekend’ thread; when Eric Bienemy cuts the cord and is hired as an HC, will he be do better, worse or the same as Nagy and Pedersen?
  20. One takeaway from this for me is the Bears beat the Bucs this year. The Pack lost to them both times they played them. And they’ll be home on their couch watching the SB like the Bears.
  21. Mixed feelings on Desai being DC. Really appreciate the players perspective like Acho and Long (although he played oline) and that he may have been “Fangios right hand man” when he was in Chicago. But... he’s been the Safeties coach for the last number of years. A position that Jackson has regressed in the last few years. And of the FAs who’ve come along since Amos’ departure haven’t been all that great. Except, that is, unless you count the last few games by T. Gibson.
  22. I like it. Never really understood why he didn’t succeed in SF. Loved how he infamously called out Vernon Davis (not by name) that one time. That’s an indication how he holds people responsible and has the intensity needed for Bears Defensive football. And besides that I see Jay Rodgers looks to be leaving for the Chargers. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/20/jay-rodgers-leaving-bears-joining-chargers/
