  1. Hey wasn’t Carimi from Wisconsin? I still have some PTSD from that experience.
  2. I’m all in on a ‘trade for Watson’ scenario. But realize the uphill battle the Bears face in doing it given their current financial state and frankly the state of the team with Nagy and Pace still leading the way. But... saw this article (below) earlier and had heard talk of it elsewhere as a ‘what if’? Essentially it would be a three way trade deal with Houston, Miami and Chicago. In the deal Tua would end up in Chicago and Watson in Miami; from what I’ve read of two teams he’s interested in Miami is the more appealing to him. I get that Tua is a bit of a risk for his injury history but I think the only reason they cut him short last season was mostly for preservation and their season ended when they lost to the Bills in week 15 or 16(?). He comes from a reputable school in Alabama with a 1-1 championship record (similar to Watson). He fits most of the Bill Parcell’s model of a successful transfer from collegiate to NFL success (at least three years starter in college being one - one cut short by injury and the first abbreviated by Hurts’ lackluster performance forcing Tua to play earlier than planned). And wouldn’t cost a whole lot in cap space - If I understand that correctly. *edit: when I read the article the first time I thought the proposal involved the Bears giving up their 1st for 2022 not 2021. So there’s that. With this trade proposal you could still get the O-line you want/need through the draft and any other complimentary players needed (to include another lower round QB). Although it’s not clear where Mitch would end up in the scenario (doesn’t matter) you’d still have Foles available if needed. https://heavy.com/sports/chicago-bears/proposed-trade-deshaun-watson-tua-tagovailoa/
  3. Yeah I thought the same thing. Amazing how much different the game could have been had Mooney been playing.
  4. Good thought. Allegedly when Brady left NE, Chicago was a team he was considering going to. What type of negotiation was involved to get him to go to TB? Was it simply the weather?
  5. Is that supposed to make me feel better about the Bears in that same span of time? Arians has been 58-33 (including his interim HC time in Indy and Arizona) and had three playoff appearances. And we know how the Mahomes vs. Trubkisky rages on.
  6. This sounds almost identical to what was being said about Mahomes coming out. He was a bit riskier of a gunslinger type player (like Winston) but more mature. I’d agree with you that he might be worth a try but I’m not sure the Bears can afford to risk it again.
  7. Since this is the ‘championship weekend’ thread; when Eric Bienemy cuts the cord and is hired as an HC, will he be do better, worse or the same as Nagy and Pedersen?
  8. One takeaway from this for me is the Bears beat the Bucs this year. The Pack lost to them both times they played them. And they’ll be home on their couch watching the SB like the Bears.
  9. Mixed feelings on Desai being DC. Really appreciate the players perspective like Acho and Long (although he played oline) and that he may have been “Fangios right hand man” when he was in Chicago. But... he’s been the Safeties coach for the last number of years. A position that Jackson has regressed in the last few years. And of the FAs who’ve come along since Amos’ departure haven’t been all that great. Except, that is, unless you count the last few games by T. Gibson.
  10. I like it. Never really understood why he didn’t succeed in SF. Loved how he infamously called out Vernon Davis (not by name) that one time. That’s an indication how he holds people responsible and has the intensity needed for Bears Defensive football. And besides that I see Jay Rodgers looks to be leaving for the Chargers. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/20/jay-rodgers-leaving-bears-joining-chargers/
  11. I think that’s part of the mock draft scenario involving him going to Miami and Tua to Houston. Although Watson did say/tweet something about wanting to leave Houston and play for Miami.
  12. Seriously, what’s the appeal with this guy? Just because he went to North Dakota State like Wentz? And in a quick read on him he only played in one game this season and has started a total of 17 games in his career? And how the hell is Mac Jones in the same tier as him?
  13. The article I posted the other day listed as many as 15 possibilities. One thing they made light of was that whomever is considered for the position will need do think about the very possibility of Nagy and Pace being canned next year. That will probably scare off any outsiders and those that may want to put a stamp on their potential long term impact. Rodgers makes the most sense since it would be a promotion from within the organization and he’s survived two HCs in Chicago after working with Fangio for some time. The fact he may have some Fangio like qualities is certainly an appealing one.
  14. Saw this article recently on NBC news. It lists 17 potential candidates (Boettcher was one). If you read the whole article and the reasoning for considering each candidate, especially the first 3-4 it makes sense. Someone here suggested Jay Rodgers as an ‘inside hire’ (#1 on the list) and I think that is a sound suggestion. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/bears-defensive-coordinator-search-17-coaches-who-could-replace-chuck-pagano
  15. Meanwhile, CP is back to trying to lure players to Chicago. Wouldn’t it be telling if somehow Chicago were to get Watson and then Trubisky were to somehow end up in a place like San Fran? https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2021/01/14/cordarrelle-patterson-is-lobbying-deshaun-watson-to-chicago/?fbclid=IwAR0T6n4eWirVvlJhqW-jrYb9BhlEncjZ5WxZZuVn5GqCjFkqbAzY9GQWJKo
  16. I know this is sarcastic laden but how is it we’re still talking about QBs out of ND State this high up? Isn’t this like the third one since Wentz came out?
  17. Saw it mentioned earlier but frankly I’m disappointed Pagano had to go out this way (retiring). I think the players on D let him down more than he letting them down. https://theathletic.com/2319252/2021/01/12/chicago-bears-defensive-coordinator-chuck-pagano-to-retire-sources/ With Pace and Nagy coming back I suspect the rest of the team will be lost before the end of the first game next season.
  18. Id agree. Seems he’s more interested in that these days then in actual production. On the other hand, Tashaun Gipson was playing really well in the last game. Sorta like a SS should.
  19. Jackson’s play vaguely resembles to me how Fuller was right after he signed his first big contract. He seemed to be taking plays off and was a lost cause. Right about the time (or just before) the Packers came sniffing round was when his play went up ten-fold. Could Jackson be the same way? Is there still hope? We know his potential.
  20. Meanwhile over in Philly, Doug Pedersen was let go. This after being only a few years removed from taking them to the SB and winning it. As if the weird choice to sit Jalen Hurts the last game of the season wasn’t enough of a head scratcher, word was Pederson had turned into a bit of a d-bag so Lurie chose to cut bait. Not all that long ago a few of us here (to include me) were praising the success of Andy Reid’s coaching tree. With Nagy and Pedersen both falling on their faces, maybe not. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/eagles-fire-doug-pederson.amp
  21. This to me makes the most sense. Usually don’t like drafting high for OL but agree it’s time.
  22. He (Romo) also did say they see Winston staying in NO next year and use him as a replacement to Brees while keeping Hill as the rotational player. San Francisco will also be in play for a QB. I thinks they’re getting fed up with Jimmy G.
