Draft buzz is one of my favorite sights for information on players but I never looked back at their previous projections to know how accurate they are . The biggest question is what Johnson and Allen think of players in the draft and how they value what we have. No one knows. I think we have an idea of what Poles does but how much that applies this year is unknown. The Draft will answers lots of questions. If I was guessing, an DL at 10 or speed somewhere. It's just my opinion.

Does anyone think he has trade value? We have our future QB, Bagent may end up starting one day but not here. Could we get a 6 th round for him? We don't need a developmental QB with Caleb here.
-
Agree with all that, just because they are the best OTs this year doesn't mean they compare to a Joe Alt type. That doesn't mean they are bad players or won't be great, just maybe not at LT.
-
We signed Miles Boykin/ WR and Shawn Wade/ CB today. Boykin is the perfect example of why you don't trust combine results. 6'4" 220 4.42 speed great combine numbers and has flopped in the NFL. This kind of acquisitions are just shot in the dark camp bodies that have something that looks good on paper.

I don't think either of them are LTs , Banks may be. To say Membou is smoke and mirrors means you haven't watched much tape on his play. The reason his rise from nowhere to maybe top 15 is because his tape is great. GMs and coaches say tape is 80% of grade on players, that's why he's so high. The only simulator I use is PFN, it seems ( to me) to be the most realistic. I rely more on opinions from Dane Brugler, Matt Miller and Daniel Jeremiah than any simulator anyway. My ego just isn't big enough to think I'm smarter than people that put 1000 of hours in scouting players. You have to trust somebody and then form an opinion. I would have no problem if we drafted any of those 3 OTs that would mean the bears think that player is the Best choice. That's all that matters.

I couldn't tell you how good he is but a lot of the NFL people think he's one of the blue chip players in this draft. IF he is they could draft him as a situational pass rusher with plans of Edmunds or Edwards leaving after this year. I look at a player, watch a lot of tape and form an opinion. Scouts have looked at every minute, met with, interviewed , and analyze everything. They have a much better perspective than I could ever imagine to have. I don't have a big enough ego to think I am smarter than any of them. My opinion means nothing in reality.

When did Banks become the top LT prospect after Campbell if he plays LT? You may be right because no one has any idea on teams are rating the OL but Campbell and Membou will be the first 2 OL off the board if I'm reading the tealeafs. I keep seeing the blue chip players are Hunter, Carter, Walker, Jeanty, Graham and Warren everywhere. Add two QBs that counts 8 players. I don't see Banks being drafted until 20 to 30.

I think they think they have LT covered with the upgrade of the IOL. They will bring in a Conerly or Grant to develop behind Braxton and Kiran but not at 10. They are drafting speed somewhere first.
-
I think who ever we add at 10 or trade back will have speed. Both Johnson and Allen love speed. Having said that, James Pierce, Matthew Golden becomes relevant. If Warren or Jeanty is there, very possible. I have never considered Jalon Walker as a possibility but he could be used as a pass rusher makes it possible. 4.50 speed for a LB is great. I think they go for Kenneth Grant or Nolen but have blacked off. I think it's very interesting that no one has a clue as to who we take. I don't think it's a LT .

Five Current Bears Who May Determine Bears' Draft Plans

We don't need me me me players on the team. Poles like of quality characters does have its advantages. -
Johnson wants to attack defenses from a variety of plays. It keeps defenses on edge when you don't know where the ball is going. I think Warren fits that mold more so than from a dynamic RB because he can be used in so many ways. I'm not saying this is my opinion but what Johnson stated. If Warren is there, I think there's a 70% chance we take him. Golden is rated a middle of the 1st round pick but his 4.25 speed will entice Johnson to take him if the others are gone.

Five Current Bears Who May Determine Bears' Draft Plans

Agree he is a special player but the argument is not that Dexter is equal to that but not far behind as a second round pick. He will shine this year with better pieces around him. The season will dictate the winner of the argument. -
I have heard numbous NFL scouts say there are 7 blue chip players in the Draft. Hunter, Carter, Graham, Warren, Jeanty, Walker, QB Ward. If any of those are there ( not Ward), I think we take them. Chances are none will be there of which we will trade back if possible. If we can't trade back, I think it will be Kenneth Grant. Billings contract will be coming due and we don't have quality behind him. Pierce will be next inline as Allen stated he wants speed on defense. With #10 you have to add a blue chip player. The first pick determines the next 3 picks. . Johnson talked about speed and weapons, that's Jeanty, Warren and Golden on the offensive side. Defensively Walker, Pierce, Carter fit that mold early.
-
Ben Johnson had a lot of interviews today and he was talking about adding a weapon which makes sense with Jeanty but more so with Warren. Warren can be used in the slot, spread wide, as a power back . 12 scheme. I think Warren has a better chance of being at 10 instead of Jeanty. That also opens the talk about a speed WR. Not sure any are rated blue chip other than Hunter. Tetairoa McMillan isn't a speed guy who seems to be considered the best WR in the draft. Matthew Golden is a different story, he slotted in the teens which could easily be picked at 10. 4.25 speed, his production was never great but I could see Johnson fawning over him like the next Tyreek Hill.

Five Current Bears Who May Determine Bears' Draft Plans

Billings is like the Sanborn type player, you notice him but his play overall is just average. Not everyone on a team is going to be a star, lots of these types on NFL rosters. His snaps will slow down this year because of the younger guys we draft but at least Poles got value with his contract. -
You can find tape on All pro players that look bad sometimes, it's always the overall play that matters. I look at penalties and pressures. It will show consistency. We can all look at tape and analyze players but the scouts see more data, every snap and it's their judgement that will determine who we pick. Drafting is a flawed process.

We are not in contention for a SB, so we are not trading a bunch of picks for one player. The strength of the draft ( many opinions) is 15-50. So the more picks we have in that range the better to build the roster. I also believe we have coaches that can actually develop players. So later picks may be useful 2 to 3 years from now. I would say unless Mason Graham or Carter are available Poles will try to trade back for more picks. I don't think Campbell, Warren or Jeanty are our target.

I'm not against Jeanty being on our team as you but I am trying to guess what they will do. If we draft Jeanty he will still share RB duties with RJ and Swift. Johnson wants flexibility to attack defenses, everyone will get snaps. They're other backs that can contribute that will be taken in the second and third round leaving open the first few picks for upgrading the trenches. I think he is looking for speed . Jayden Blue ran a 4.25 at his pro day if the article I read was accurate. He is use to platooning and doesn't have a lot of millage on his body. Another intriguing back that they are bringing in for a visit is Brashard Smith/ SMU. At Miami he was a WR that ran some . SMU made him a RB. He has 4.39 speed with excellent hands and route running. He seems like the perfect weapon Johnson would bring in a a mid round pick. We can probably get either of them at pick 72. My new dream draft Trade back in round 1 and take Kenneth Grant, with an extra 2nd. Josh Conerly - Princely Umanmien - Isaiah Bond At 73 Brashard Smith. ( I have a lot of free time on my hands).

I watch a lot of videos- podcasts and have now heard two people mention Kenneth Grant NFL comparison as Akim Hicks. If he turns into Hicks do you draft him with #10?
-
Ja Whaun Bentley/ LB was released by NE, we now have our SLB to replace Sanborn. Injured last year but was team Capitan and leading tackler for the previous 3 seasons. The type of player Poles likes.

I'm not suggesting that, I think that is what they're going to do. Fans easily give up on players that had a bad year, or got injured. I don't think GMs think that way. Poles won the value picking a 5th round pick at LT that played well, not great. Braxton hasn't gotten better ( by NFL standards average) so he drafted Kiran knowing he wouldn't be available until this year. Last year the injuries made him get some playing time. Now fans are trashing 2 picks that he planned to compete this year. I don't think he has given up on that plan. Unless Braxton kicks ass this year, Poles has planned on Kiran being the future LT. They're questions on Campbell, Banks and Simmons as far as a true quality LT, if you draft anyone else, Kiran is equal to a prospect to be developed. He's already here and has been indoctrinated to the NFL. If they think one of the top OL are a top LT, they will draft him, I'm saying I don't think they do. The upgrade of the IOL will help the LT and they can always give chip help if needed. Johnson is big on WRs and TEs that block, if Braxton is the starter he will have a better year.
-
I think Kenneth Grant is the upgrade over Billings. DL need 4 DTs to rotate anyways and we have no one there right now. I have heard some say Grant will be a better pro than Mason Graham since Graham's measurements were less than expected. He's slotted 15-25 so hopefully we trade back and still grab him. They will target a RB with speed in the second or third round.
-
They are planning to keep IOL together for 3 years. Thuney isn't extended yet but I believe that is their plan. So if they draft OL at 10 it's with intentions of playing at LT. I don't think they consider Campbell a true left tackle, so how they analyze Banks, and Simmons is critical. Braxton will be up for contract and there are no way they are paying him 20 mil. Kiran was picked to compete at LT and has all the measurements but still a question mark. I think they target a prospect in the second round to compete but will have a year to develop as they let Braxton play this year. Josh Conerly and Charles Grant fit that scenario. 1/3 of the teams need to upgrade LT so who knows if they will be there. A story came out about Simmons not being a worker and with him not being ready off of an injury don't think they consider him. Banks is the wildcard but seen stories that his play was inconsistent after coming back off an injury last season. I think they go with Braxton and Kiran this year and have the prospect compete once Braxton is gone.
