It would have been interesting to see if we took Pickens or Thornton if they we still there at 71. Like you said, I dont think Pierce would fit that role. I think maybe Moore has that quickness to do some of that. I dont think Pickens fits that role.I think the possibility exists we may still had picked Jones at 71 if all of those WRs were still available. Or maybe took Pickens and then with a 5th round pick had targeted a different WR more like Jones. Khalil Shakir was still available with our 148th pick. Bo Melton is similar is size and speed as Jones, still there in the 7th round. Both of these players were used in rushing plays as well as a WR. ESPN did there power ranking and put us at 32, the worst team in the league. I cant figure out where national writers think we will be a worse team than last year where we won 6 and potentially could have won 3 other games. Yes we lost AROB, Hicks , and Mack but none of them made big contributions last year anyway. When Fields takes a step forward (totally expect that) this year, that in itself will win more games. This years WR and TE group are better than last year. The OL is still a question mark but I think Poles knows what he is doing and will have that respectable by the time the season starts. I think the D will be better than last year. Our big weakness was the defensive backfield. This team will be much stronger there. I expect Gipson and Q Muhammad to be improved and Quinn to have around 10-11 sacks. More speed and focusing on TOs will have good results. I see 9 to 10 wins.

I think Mooney, Pringle and Jones are set and will contribute. The next 2 or 3 will be surprises in a good way. I imagine out of St Brown, Pettis or Sharpe, one will break out. Mooney 4.38 Pringle 4.42 Jones 4.31 Pettis 4.32 St Brown 4.48 Sharpe 4.56 David Moore 4.38

He's had a lot of bad juju going on. As much as money isn't everything. His contract he signed had a 2.4 mil payout if injured. Imagined if he got injured before he got his contract. As least he's taken care of till he can rehab again.
-
Poles will not hit on all players he brought in but at least they are not here on big contracts. The majority are ascending players, ones that have improved every year. For example Morrow in 2019 and 2020 out preformed the two higher paid lLBers the Raiders brought in Kwit and Cory Littleton. Last year he had an injury that caused him to not play. Patrick was a backup in GB and in 2020 played 14 games at LG because of injury. Last year he played 15 games at OC because of injury, gave up 1 sack and 5 pressures. Q Mohammed had 7 sacks and had improved every year. You could seem him break out with Quinn on the other side. All the WRs he brought in have had productive years but never had enough snaps to be consistent. With Hill and kelce getting 393 targets, it was hard for Pringle to shine in KC.
-
They actually did him a favor, they resigned him to designated a injury settlement so he got some money.

Until we start playing games his value will look underwhelming, but Poles drafted him with a role in mind. As you said , defenses will have to pay attention to him. I can't wait until he runs off some chunk plays that will shut up all of the negative narrators. What Poles added to the WR room is more speed and more height. Last yr we had only I WR over 6', AROB, we now have 8 currently on the roster.

I listen to a lot of Bears content podcasts, I'm A Bears nerd, one national writer said he thought the Bears would only win 2 games but that was OK because Fields would improve in his second year. If Justin Fields takes a step up , that's an argument for the Bears winning 8 or 9 games, not 2. So much negatively because the Bears didn't take a OL and WR with their first 2 picks. A lot of writers on that narrative. I hope the Bears win 10-11 games just to shut those idiots up. Last year we were not good but with the additions to this years team has not made us worse.

Poles values athletics and speed, Jones has it, Newsome doesnt. I think they targeted Velus Jones, and probably were trying to trade back and get extra picks and take him in the 4th where he was projected being drafted. I think they took him early. As soon as Thornton was drafted , they knew Jones would not last long. I think the brain trust figured out how they wanted to use Jones, (Deebo style) and had him high on there list. People look at this as a reach because the draftniks didnt had him rated high, but their job is not on the line by being wrong where the current regime is. Something I think mattered to them was his KR ability. Him and Ebnerr were both excellent KRers and I suspect one will do punts and the other kickoffs. I think Ebner makes the final roster even thou the RB room is crowded with good players. Poles says he wanted playmakers and both fit that mode. One thing Poles did for sure was add speed to this team, something we lacked before. Flus runs the nickel package 80% of the time. Morrow and Roquin will be the LBers in that scheme.4.51 and 4.5. His run the ball mentality will work well with the added speed. I think Jack Sanborn with 4.66 speed will start in the SAM spot . The only weak spot left on D (IMO) is the 3 T position . The starter only gets around 60% of the snaps so we need two. Edwards may be sneaky good as the backup but that remains to be seen. I think the possibility exists that Ogunjobi could be back. If he does, I think we can be a top 10 D with more TOs than last year. All win win.

I follow Greg on twitter and he has some positive things to say. I like when he calls out people like Eric Lambert and Mike Florio for making things up. Some of his insights in the OL as to why I think they may be better than it looks like going in . Another guy I like is Swifty that puts out all Bears content , I like his insights.

Jones will get some go routes but will be mainly in the slot position. St Brown is the X but Sharpe may take some snaps away. Due to the speed of Pettis, he will get some deep routes also. If you look at Ourlads website they list the current depth chart and current roster.

If they upset SF, we could be 3-1 after 4 games that could be huge for confidence of young players. Minn and Wash are next, both are winnable. Dare I say 5-1? Easy to see I am an optimist by my logic. Lose to NE and Dallas, then go on a 4 game winning streak before losing to the Packers again. 9-4 After the bye week beat the Eagles, and lose to Bills. Then win win. 12-5, 4th seed in the National League. It all seems quite simple the way I look at it. Monty has 1100 yds on the season, Fields has 3940 yds passing, 480 rushing, 32 TDs combined. Mooney reaches 100 recs., Jones scores 3 ST TDs, and 8 on offensive reps. Kmet gets to 8 TDs with 60 rec again. Our D leads the league in TOs and scores 3 defensive TDs. After writing this, I was considering to stop doing drugs. change my mind

I see 12 winnable games on the schedule. We will lose some of them but also could upset a team I dont see as winnable. I think we win 9 games. SF will be a possible win depending on who starts at QB. They have 3 new starters on the OL, Eligah Mitchell doesnt scare me. This is a winnable game. We had 6 wins last year, 3 more games that we still have a chance to win at the end of the game with a difficult schedule. This years schedule is much more team friendly. Our defense will be better. Last year we had Mack, Trevathan, Hicks, and Goldman that were good players that did not live up to their paycheck. This team will have more TOs and those will contribute to our overall defensive performance. Offensively we will have better coaching, play calling and Fields taking a step forward. Our running game will be stronger with a better line. Last year our only good OL was Jason Peters. We have upgraded OC, Whitehair had a bad year but is normally a better player. I think Jenkins is a blue chip player and will show thru at RT this year. He will find a LT if what we have doesnt prove out. Duane Brown and Eric Fisher are still out there. I trust in Poles to put a RG out there that will preform consistently. Our TE group and WR are definitely improved, AROB was not good last year. IF Fields becomes more consistent our offense will be much improved. Poles has improved our STs with some excellent KRs added to the mix. Because of all the unknowns a lot of people are writing us off this year, I see us improved in many areas. What positional group has got worse? I dont see any of them worst.

Jasper Horsted is back and then put him on the injury unable to perform list. The fact they havent signed any more OL , does than mean they are satisficed with the competition they have there? I would think they would sign one more vet OT. They have Davenport , so the only upgrade over him would be Brown or Fisher, otherwise its a side step. What I would like to see is they sign J C Treeter and move Patrick to RG.
-
I think Mooney, Pringle and V Jones are set . St Brown is the big X WR but now has completion with Sharpe. I think both of them make the team. That leaves one spot for the rest of the group. Eric Lambert and Jonathan Woods continue to post articles with negative content about the bears. I think IF Filelds takes the next step, we could be a 8-9 win team. I will be betting on that once the preseason is done. I think Pettis has the upper hand due to his 4.32 speed and vet experience.
-
I think Pringle has the bests chance to be a #2 type of WR. Just watch tape and you can see some good traits. People say he never showed much and that's why he never stood out in KC. When you have T. Hill in front of you on the depth chart, odds of getting lots of snaps are limited. Kelce and Hill had 293 targets between them. I actually think he could have a breakout type of year. Playing the slot in this offense may draw more targets than the Y WR position. If they put Velus Jones in the slot that will change the target chances. Pettis is interesting, he has 4.32 speed and had 17.3 yds per catch his first year in the league. The next year they drafted Deebo Samuel . Deebo and Kittle are the only two WRs that had a large target share. Pettis has some nagging injuries and got lost in transition. Pettis was a second round pick and still has upside potential. This list while have someone step up, they all have had contributions in a limited role. I think this is a sneaky good group of WRs and will prove itself this year.
-
Fortunately he got his new contract before everything caved in on him.
-
At least you're adding people that had some NFL production. Should be real competitive. The fact they haven't added some OL help , probably means they like what they have.
-
Throwing darts hoping one sticks. At least they are creating competition. Pettis has 4.32 speed. His rookie year had almost 500 yds , 17.3 average , 5 TDs. , but injuries knocked him down. Then SF brought in better WRs. Sharpe had a good rookie season, and had the same storyline. Horsted failed his physical and they cut him.
-
He has size and speed. 6'3" 215 and has 4.48 speed. They are looking at big WRs, I wonder it that means they arent high on St Brown or just competition for that spot.
-
If you look at the measurables with ST Brown , he is our big X that we all wanted in the draft. I would say at this point in his career , he has shown who he is, but if he ascends to be a consistent target, that's huge for this team. 6' 5" 214 with 4.48 speed. Its odd with Rodgers you would think all the WRs would show out better, but Rodgers seems to have his favorites and some get left out. The year Graham came here, I thought it was a wasted FA because he didnt produce with Rodgers. Here in 2020 he did 50-456-8 , never expected that. If we actually got those kind of numbers from our 4th WR ( St Brown) that would be awesome. last year in GB under this OC Adams got the most targets 169 , the RB position (Dillion and Jones) were targeted 103 times, Lazard and MVS were targeted 114 times. TEs were targeted 89 times. Mooney had 140 last year with 81 catches. I think he gets around 150 targets with a better catch percentage because of play calling and Fields ascending . So you take a large amount of catches going to the RB position and TE group. So the other WRs on the team will have limited targets with Pringle leading the way with 60 to 90 targets. Velus Jones will contribute by runs and catches and I expect him to get 60 targets . Those targets will be robbing the RB group so all in not in the WR category.
-
There is a lot of ifs at this stage but I can see where we win more than we lose. I think the defense will be better. The offense can't be as bad as last year and if Fields takes a jump, better play calling, we could have a winning season. As ASH stated we still have a few weaknesses 3T and RG. I think the RG is already here, we just haven't identified him yet. I think the answer at 3T is still coming by way of Larry Ogunjobi. He hasn't been doing any visits and Poles haven't wrote him off yet. We definitely don't have a number#1 WR but we may by the end of the year. Devante Adams didn't turn into D Adams until his 5th season. Mooney still has hope.
-
Actually I did forget to include them.
-
All of these national stories are predicated on the fact we didnt take a WR or OL with our first three picks. They give no value to Pringle as an ascending player, dont look at the potential of Velus Jones as a contributor his first year. They view our OL as not good because we didnt pay for a high priced FA. Our OL will be better based on Patrick at OC, Whitehair playing better, Trevin Jenkins being a stud. RG still has to play out and they still could bring in a Duane Brown for LT. It just isnt complete yet on what the OL will be day one starting the season.
-
I remember when Pete Carrol in his first year had 206 roster transactions to upgrade his roster, and I thought that was insane but that is how you upgrade your roster from the bottom up. If they add 5-6 roster contributors to the team thru the UDFA process that would be a plus. I have faith that the new coaching staff will be better at developing players than the Nagy staff. With no apparent starter at Sam LB spot , we could possibly find him here. Sanborn, Avery, or Albright. Christian Albright has 4.6 speed. Sanborn-4.73, Avery 4.75.

Good article, you should write for one of these bears sites, their are a ton of them and you are much better than some of their articles.. You and AZ are both very articulate. One thing different for us compared to the other two teams is we have different regimes between year one and year two. I think that in it self will change how well Fields progresses. We had the worst offense in the league last yr , no discipline and no accountabity which affected play on the field. We have a coach that will play to his strengths, and not try to overload him with a complex offense like Nagy was trying to do. It will be more simplistic, and user friendly. He wont have five reads, he will have plays that will give him a couple choices and to run or not. My expectations are raised because I trust the coaches more to fit the talent. Even with a raw OL they will value the run which sets up the play action which helps the oline. If you use a bunch of screens that slows down the pass rush. I think our WR corp will be much better than what Jackson and Allen had in their second yrs. The national media only sees what they want to see and dont dig deep into the roster development and that's why they have such a doomsday outlook on Fields. I expect Mooney to get 150 targets this year, Pringle 100, Velus Jones 70, and Kmet 100. A better offense will increase out offensive output. Fields over 4000 yds, passing, 500 rushing with 32 TDs-10 interceptions. Where ever Flus went there was an untick in TOs and expect that to happen here. When Flus went to Indy they went from 23 to 29, last year we had 20. Last year as a team we had 3625 yards passing, Fields 1870. So with a better functioning offense see no reason he cant get to 4000.
