This year we added the top drafted running for having missed tackles. Johnson, he will eventually show up and that will change the RB room. I suspect Foreman gets the start with Herbert doing his thing. They will not turn the job over easily but Johnson will be the man as the season progresses.

As it gets repeated to infinity, the Bears were the worst sack team in the league. With Walker, Green that will improve it. If Robinson and Gipson play better, that will improve it. You get an improvement out of the middle of the defense, it gets better. Add in a scheme that gets Edmunds, Edwards and Sewell some rushing attempts, we will be better. Add Brisker attempts and we rise to the middle of the pack. Not great but acceptable. If he still adds an edge, that will help. Overall this team got better without adding a star edge, that will come next year. We have the potential of having a very good back of the defense, that will help the sack total. The sum of the whole has improved.

I think as media states it ( the culture) , they are doing things the right way. Doing events to having players bond, communicate, and spend time together. Tevan Jenkins got married this off-season and several players attended the wedding in Texas. Justin Fields was there, as team leaders should have been. I think it helps Jenkins buy in to the culture more of which he may have had a problem with last year. I think part of Detroit's success has been the same thing with their grounded head coach. I think we have a bright future.

Hopefully he wins it, Santos worries me. His career has been up and down.
-
I agree he needs to advance in many areas. I dont think he has a slow throwing motion as much as when he sees a WR break, he hesitates because he doesnt trust him to catch the ball. He tries to wait until they get open more. You rarely see a throwing problem when he threw to Mooney because he trusted him.

Name one player that isnt a leading choice (Fields-Edmunds) that will be the biggest surprise in their contribution to the team this year? I think DeMarcus Walker will surprise the team and lead the team in sacks. He had his best year last year and in a (Hakim Hicks type of season breakout as a consistent contributor on defense.) Last year he played 33% of Titans defensive snaps , 33 tkls, 10 TFL,. 16 QB hits, 8 sacks and 32 pressures. If he plays 50% of the D snaps, what can he do? 8-10 sacks, 40 pressures I have seen lots of information on Walker and several places list him with 7 sacks and several list him with 8 sacks. PFF goes over every snap a player has , so I am going with their choice.

I will see things on the internet and want to drop the info but doesnt fit in a specific thread. Mike Lombard in regularly on the SCORE during football season. He has always condemned Justin Fields and his NFL potential. He was on the McAfree Show and they were talking about Jordon Love and the Packers. He said everyone is underestimating Love and the team. Then was asked about the Bears and said that he doesnt see Fields having the ability to be a top QB in this league. He makes a comment and even thou the upside of Fields has changed, has to double down on his first comments so he can be the smartest guy in the room. He's a PUD. as a Bears fan>

On a scale of 1-10 rate Monty a 6. Being loyal to good football players, I wanted him back but the truth is, we probably have a 6 ( Herbert) and 2 7s ( Foreman and Johnson) replacing him. I'm loyal to a fault sometimes.
-
I'll do that, always listen to the SCORE because AM1000 doesn't get good reception being just outside of Rockford. For good or bad the SCORE always has a lot of football content , just easier for me. 780 always came in well also.

Hopefully he has a better attitude. Definitely a quality OG when on the field. I don't remember my maturity level at that age, but my dad turned over a plumbing business at 23 so I was forced to be responsible, probably didn't want to wreck my party years but was forced to.
-
I think it comes down to expecting a bigger contract than the bears offered, so he took a slightly higher amount in Detroit. Never thought Monty was about money but I get 2 mil more is a lot of money. The problem is yielding the disrespect card doesn't fly when Detroit turned around and drafted a RB at 12. That's a kick in the sack as far as respect by Detroit.

We will have to see how everything works out but on paper, Poles is getting great value maneuvering the roster build. I think he is good at player evaluation also. A lot of people question some of his draft picks but I think he knew what he was doing and will show up on the field immediately. Dexter and Pickens will get better going forward but will contribute in the rotation right away.
-
Poles sets a value on a player and doesnt overpay. Whether you agree or not, he is doing the best way for long range goals. He wanted Monty back but wouldnt go past his price. Monty is basically getting 6 mil per yr, and 8.7 mil guaranteed. I suspect Poles would only pay him like 5 mil guaranteed. Roquan averages 20 mil with 45 mil guaranteed . I think Poles likes the length of Edmunds and pass defense better than Smith and paid him. .

He ( Nate Davis) might be in the middle of moving, hard to say why but since he has been working out at the complex, it shouldn't be a big deal. The problem with JJ is he didn't show up last year, got benched when mandatory OTAs started. He's good enough to bank oh his talent but now that they drafted 2 CBs , he needs to buy into the culture. Roquan went thru this but showed up to the complex. If he plays well this year, none of this doesn't matter but he goes 0 TOs again this year, he ain't getting what he expects by way of money. Top 10 CB contracts are 14 mil +, top 20 are 11 mil +. Last year Kyle Gordon has 3 int as a rookie. JJ has only had 1 in 3 years. Poles will offer him 9-10 and he won't sign because he thinks he's deserves better. I doubt he comes back.
-
I just think coming in the middle of the season, it's hard for any player to completely get acclimated to a new team. Poles gets flack for the Claypool trade but I think his value is established this year. He has been working out with Fields during the off-season and it will show this year.
-
Jaylon Johnson didn't show up again for voluntary OTAs. Tells me he hasn't bought in in to the culture of the team. He's a good CB but isn't big on TOs which knocks him out of the conversation for being one of the better CBs in the league. He's a 2nd tier CB. Good but not great. He's going to want top dollar when he gets to his contract value. With the Bears taking 2 CBs in the draft, I think JJ won't be here next year. JJ seems to be all about himself instead of a team guy.
-
Since there is no contact, these OTAs really show nothing with the lineman because they cant hit each other. It sees how players move but the WRs and RBs can get some time to form a connection with Fields. There are going to be 2nd year players that were forgotten that will show up because of one year of development. Im interested in seeing if Leatherwood actually shows progress or just is what he is. Interested to see if Gipson and Robinson can actually give us some pass rushing help this year. With a better DT push from the middle this year, (4 new players) will that help the edge rushers get home more? Will the scheme get Edmunds and Edwards some pass rushing reps? Edmunds at 6'5" 250 he's as big as many edge rushers in the NFL. They signed Edmunds to the biggest contract in the off season. Hearing Flus interviewed , he's going to focus the defense around him . He expects him to be the leader going forward. With him and Brisker, I think they will give a new culture to the defense. Edmunds has 5 Ints and 35 PDs in five years. Him and Edwards will take away the middle of the defense which was one of our weaknesses last year. He's only 26 years old and never had a major injury. Only missed 6 games in 5 yrs. In the last two years Edwards has had 12 PDs and 1 int. That is huge pass defense additions.

Jenkins still has to prove himself. Its very encouraging when he played but he needs a whole year on the field to solidify his starters role. In the beginning of the year he has some work ethic issues then the nagging injury bug hit him. I think its more of a maturity issue with him, hopefully he gets his act together. They have Ja'Tyre Carter and Dieter Eiselen in backup roles for now. I suspect Leatherwood could play inside also. Carter had some good traits but needed to get stronger as all rookies need to do. I find Dieter interesting because they keep bringing him back. They must like his progress. If I remember Eiselen took some snaps at OC last preseason. Kramer can only play OC so I see him on the practice squad and then keep Carter or Eiselen because they could back up a couple of spots. I think Carter may get some snaps at OC if they dont like what Patrick brings to the table.
-
Jenkins has two yrs left on his contract, so I dont see that coming into play. He had some issues but proved himself when he played. I think he just needed to mature to get his act together mentally. Leatherwood has a guaranteed contract so if he doesnt progress for a starting job, they will just have him as a backup.
-
Poles likes length and athleticism . Everything doesn't fit exactly in his box, but everyone he drafted has a good RAS score.
-
Kellen Diesch is listed at LT backup. Not sure Borom ever plays LT again. I think he may be cut.
-
I've been watching tape on all of draft picks and both Dexter and Pickens are strong player with athleticism . Pickens was voted D lineman for the week at the senior bowl. His tape there was outstanding . Also Wright was voted the O lineman of the week. Having Gresty as the Senior will play dividends with his up close evaluations of the players. Thats where they got to see Stevenson also.

I think Leno has always been just average and as he got older, his play eroded. The best thing about Leno was he was always healthy. Hopefully Jenkins keeps getting better but I think J Carter would be the next man up if Jenkins falters. I think we undervalue players we have because we are always looking at the new players. Some of these 2 nd year players will step up and have more of a impact than in their first year.(V Jones) is an example. I think he gets 5-6 touches a game and has one big play in him. If we dont add a pass rusher, we will expect Gipson and Robinson to play better. Also I have been watching tape on Edmunds and Sewell and I think in a pinch we could throw them on the edge as a situational rusher. I think Poles adds a edge but may not be Yannick N or Frank Clark.

No matter what we added on the OL or more weapons we got, the number of wins we have this year will be obtained by the progress of Justin Fields. If he takes the next step , we can have unlimited success. All the new players will help but he needs between 3500 and 4000 yards. 25 to 30 TDs at a rate of 67%. The intangibles are what matters with him. Hard worker, leadership and the will to win. It's a no-brainer to me.
