In one of the other threads I mentioned something similar to the old-school Washington+Traylor combo. The reason that worked so well is that they basically set up a wall and said, "You either have to run around wide, or pass." It was pretty effective in that regard. What if the Bears did something similar in the near future? The way I see it, you need 2-3 components with this idea: 1) The stout DL, obviously 2) Athletic LBs, to chase outside, cover gaps, and go into pass coverage 3) A decent secondary So here is my challenge: Choose a combination of 3-4 ILB, and/or 3-4 OLB, and/or 3-4 DE that realistically could fall into the Bears draft position. …

The first big play that Von Miller made was reminiscent of Richard Dent in SB 20. When he was drafted he was picked number 2 overall behind the guy he pressured repeatedly on Sunday. This is the type of pass rusher that all 3/4 teams will be looking for and the type the Bears should be looking for. The Denver linebackers reminded me of the New Orleans Saints LBs lead by Sam Mills,Vaughn Johnson, Pat Swilling and Ricky Jackson. This is the LB crew that they are similar to imo. This offseason we need to acquire a player that is going to wreck havoc like Von Miller, Pat Swiilling and Rickey Jackson.

@ Detroit - The Bears beat the Lions earlier, but these teams are different since them. I'd say this is a sure loss. vs. GB - I'd love for this to have been the win, and SF the loss, but the Bears already won. Also, GB has had the Bears' number for quite some time. Another loss. vs. Wash - This is the most winnable game out of all of them. What is up with the blowouts this season? Yesterday's games were decided by 16 and 18 pts and could've been higher if Atlanta didn't take a knee at the 1. In the Wild Card weekend, the closest game was 13 featuring Osweiler and Cook. The others were just as bad. Detroit scored 6 pts, GB won by 25 and Pittsburgh was up 30-6 with 6 mins left in the game.

Sidney Jones CB Wash, was considered a first round CB, tore his Achilles at his pro day. This cost him a lot of money and the 2017 season. I would think he makes it to Round 3 and possibly RD4. Hope springs eternal and then reality sets in. Here's my thoughts on who steps up and who steps down. Surprise: Mitchell Trubisky. I think from the first week in camp it will be clear he can play in this league. A rookie practicing against the same team every day and playing preseason games against backups does not make him ready to start in week 1. Nonetheless I expect to hear quite a bit of positive reviews about Trubisky during camp. Disappointment: Eddie Jackson. I was going to put Fuller in here but he's fighting for a job at this point even if it's not in Chicago. I've seen a lot of hype about Jackson after the draft but IMO he was just ok …

Evidently Glennon / Tru both looked really good this past weekend. I'm getting more and more confident in the fact that I think Glennon will prove to be a solid starter. As it relates to Trubisky, I think it is great how accurate he has looked and that he has flashed that "athleticism" and accuracy (supposedly he has been the most accurate QB the vast majority of training camp). That said, the differentiator between solid and great QB's isn't physical skills (those are more of the pre-requisite). He was Pro Football Focus' No. 53 tackle out of 76 qualifiers last season after checking in at 49-of-76 the previous year. The Bears see upside in the soon-to-be 26-year-old and keep in tact the left side of their line. At $9.5 million per year, Leno is the league's 14th-highest-paid left tackle.
