Detroit is essentially holding the 2nd Wild Card spot, and a win on Thursday brings us to within 1 game with 4 to play, the head-to-head tie breaker, and another game in Chicago to tie up the season record. We still have to win out to have a chance due to Seattle, SF, and Dallas, but this would be a huge win and get us to 6-6. We hold the tie breaker against SF, and with a win against Dallas (next Thursday), we would own that one too. None of this matters with a loss which would take us out of the playoff picture at 5-7. Detroit has lost their last 2 games, and won the 3 games before that by a total of 6 points. They could easily be 4-7 without last second wins i…

"We knew we were going to throw on every down, so that's why we made a switch," Ron Turner said about inserting the larger Omiyale at the end of the game." Omiyale has not just been bad on run downs this year. He has been miserable on passing downs as well. In fact, I actually think he has been worse on passing downs than run downs. So why the hell would we insert Omiyale in there on the final drive when we plan to pass the ball. There was a point in the 2nd quarter when the OL started to play a bit better, but it didn't last long. This OL was a joke. Bears say Pace got the wind knocked out of him, but how stupid does Lovie think we are. Getting the wind…

It only took Turner 14 games to call a good game. And how did it happen so far? Stretch plays and runs to the outside were added in, deep crosses, and then the play action pass was thrown in. Oh, and what play resulted in a ridiculously easy TD? That's right, the old play action pass, roll out pass to the WIDE OPEN TE. It is not rocket science folks; every team in the NFL has been using that play successfully for quite some time. Glad Turner finally caught on to the obvious. Now if Lovie could only create a defensive adjustment that didn't completely suck.

Wouldn't you think of all OC's, Turner would know the most how to utilize Garret Wolfe. His brother runs the show in San Diego and while Norv is a terrible coach he's done a ton with a similar scat back. Couldn't Ron have made a call pretty easily to figure out some better ways to utilize Garret? Now my guess is that Ron has and I personally think the Bears need to utilize Wolfe more, but before we get crazy on things, if you watch the Chargers, they don't just throw screen passes with Sproles. They run him inside, outside, use him as a decoy, etc. Bottom line, I want everyone to remember that for Wolfe to succeed the Bears will have to do the sam…

Turner runs that offense. He is turning 4000yd Cutler into Orton. Why is Frank Omileye still playing? That guy is either dumb or lazy or both.

Just once I would like to see him keep the offense open regardless of score.

Three years ago it was Rivera. Last year it was Big Bad Bob Babich. This year it's going to be Turner out on his ace, which he almost certainly deserves. Anyone who tries "up the gut" so many times just to prove a point deserves to be out. These games are for real, not a flippin joke. But in all sincerity it should be the whole crew, especially Lovie. I'm sorry, but there ain't no way this crew of jalopies is ever going to get anywhere close back to a Super Bowl. A couple more years of this, and Cutler can kiss any dreams he had of being a real "franchise" QB good bye, whatever "franchise" means.

Landing Justin Fields added a new chapter that no one knew was coming. We figured this book was ending with the Red Rifle leading the Bears down a tanking season with hopes of landing a top 1-3 pick next year. Could you imagine going through that scenario and then the top QB prospect is from North Carolina. That would have been a nightmare. The magic that just happened guaranteed a sequel. As I look at this team and it's new needs, next season I am thinking they are looking for a WR and CB as high priority (2-3). It would be nice to get another WR with size and also find a solid replacement for Fuller. Then (5,6, & 7) S, OLB, ILB, & DT are all needs the D …

I saw a note that Seattle was the first team since TB (02-03) that won the Super Bowl and had the best turnover ratio (+20) on the year. I thought that was odd, so I looked back the last 10 years to see how teams finished based solely on turnover ratio. Now I know there are a million ways to skin a cat in terms of backwards compiling data, but I found this one stat alone very interesting to say the least. I don't know if you can draw the same conclusions from pts scored, pts allowed, ranked defense, ranked offense, top 10 QB, top 10 running game, etc, but this data seems to have a very solid correlation between turnover ratio and wins. Here is what I found from 20…

So apparently Brian Billick has invented a new stat, and it actually looks pretty smart. He calls it the "Fox-Tox Rating" (which is sort of a dumb name, I admit) and it's basically a composite of turnovers and what he calls "explosive" plays (runs over 12 yards or passes over 20.) It's basically the differential in turnovers (turnovers created on defense minus turnovers committed on offense) taken together with the differential in big plays (big plays on offense minus big plays allowed on defense.) It's apparently a good predictor of success: a good Fox-Tox rating correlates very well with winning and making the playoffs, and a bad one correlates well with losing. …

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5760/taylor-mays Hey Terra could you work on confirming this? Still think it could make for an intriguing acquisition. DeCicco is similar is his transition from college safety to NFL LB.

Bears release DE Charles Grant Oct 19 10/19/2010 12:08:55 PM | More Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports the Bears have released defensive lineman Charles Grant, according to a league source. Grant joined the team on a one-year deal after the Bears terminated the contract of defensive end Mark Anderson. Grant was expected to contribute as an edge rusher but was inactive for the two games he was on the Bears' roster. Now the Bears have a roster spot open, and it is unclear if they will made a trade before Tuesday's deadline -------------------------------------------- Bears unlikely to swing a deal for Logan Mankins Oct…

I've seen some drafts that start the Bears off with two DEs. I've seen some drafts that start the Bears off with an ILB and then another later. Which do you prefer? Suppose the Bears could get one of the following: OPTION 1 1. A'Shawn Robinson, DE, Alabama / DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon 2. Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor / Shilique Calhoun, DE, MSU / Jonathan Bullard, DE, Florida OPTION 2 1. Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama / Jaylon Smith, ILB, Notre Dame / Myles Jack, ILB, UCLA 2. Scooby Wright, ILB, Arizona Any other combos like those you prefer? Would you hate either? The way I see it is, the team's two starting DEs are serviceable at lea…

Over 250 yards of passing per game = win. In today's NFL, offense wins games. I'm so happy the Bears got rid of Lovie and his offensively-challenged style of drafting/coaching. Long live Trestman!
