I've been thinking about all the recent chatter about if the board could be smarter than a GM (or let's say as smart as). Now there are far too many aspects of a GM's job for us to sit here and say we got it...from FA, to staffing levels, scouting, knowing the inside details of player's behavior, details on injuries, etc. However we can approximate the one area of most interest these days...the draft. This is some long term thinking here for those who have been with this board for several years. I believe we can build our own draft and save it for future evaluation. After the draft the board is usually quiet. This off-season I propose we take on the challeng…

Till now I have been on board with drafting defense in the first. But with the additions thus far on the line and on defense I have been thinking: 1st Tavon Austin WR 2nd Best corner available My logic is that a Marshall and Jeffery split out and Austin in the slot with Bennett at tight end would give us a group of receivers that would be hard to stop. There are people on this board that will say that weapons are useless with Cutler on his back. I have to have faith that Kromer with the additions the line will improve. The quick catches I saw Austin make are very similar to the ones dropped by Hester last year. Austin gives us threats at every position …

Alright so let me first say that I hate/never believe people when they say I had a dream about a draft and think its silly. Well last night I did indeed have a dream about our Bears and the key piece of that dream was my boy Jesse Williams. We were in the super bowl, down by 6, inside 2 minutes, and we had the ball 4th and 1 near mid field(against the Broncos FWIW). Jesse Williams was lined up as the FB (something he did at Bama a few times), he gets the ball, baits the D in to stop the run then BOOM hits em with a rugby type flea flicker back to Cutler who then nails a wide open Martellus Bennett for the go ahead TD to win the super bowl. Unrealistic to actually hap…

So Bostic over Brown, another OL, and Taylor and Allen. I don't mind Bostic, I just didn't think he would go that high either.

Hey Guys, I'm very optimistic about our new staff and roster. I've been hoping for something like this, and it seems to me that they are doing all the right things. That said, I do expect the defense to take a step backward this year. Our "Cover 2" defense should probably be called a "One Gap" defense, since it's more about the front than the coverage behind it. Our aggressive scheme asks defensive linemen to get into their gaps and get upfield. This leaves 4 other gaps for LBs and a Safety to be responsible for. Unlike a 2 gap front, where players hold position, and linebackers roam behind like little safeties, our system thrives on upfield pressure, …

The hot stove is burning this afternoon with speculation Jordan Howard will be on the move. Today he removed his Bear related photos from his Instagram account which caused Twitter to explode with rumors. The rumor gaining steam was trading Howard and the 8th pick to the Giants for their 2nd overall pick. Are the Bears targeting Barkley, who seems to be a better fit for Nagys offense? Or are they going for Chubb who fits their biggest need as a pass rusher or Nelson who could solidify the line for a century. Maybe Pace wants the power to trade down when QB needy teams decides to give the farm for Darnold, Rosen, or Allen. This is a rich RB draft, so the Bears could fill…

  9. Bears at home, favored by a TD, Lions coming in at 3-5 and having lost two straight. This will come down to which Detroit team and Matt Backwards Hat Stafford show up. This team beat GB, NE, and MIA (all the teams we lost to) and lost to MIN, SF, NYJ, SEA, and DAL. So I have a feeling that this game will be a little closer than expected. For the Bears, it marks a string of Divisional games that will ultimately decide the fate of the season. This is sort of one of the must wins, at home, a divisional game, with a fractional lead in the Division race and last WC spot. If Mack and Robinson are back, I say it will be a solid win (30-17), and without them, I still t…

  10. Here we go! The real test starts this week. We need to take care of business this week or the remaining games will only matter for draft position. In our Week 1 loss, Montgomery only got 6 carries as Davis started. Miller only had 1 target and did not have a reception in Week 1. This week should be a lot different in terms of the offense. We are going to score some points. On defense, the biggest change will be with our LB corps. However, with the forecast, running the ball is going to be critical and Kwit is a huge run stopper, which works in the Bears favor. KPL is the wild card, as is Tolliver. If those two guys can step up and we can get some production out…

  11. Bears at Vikings, no Fields. Both teams playing for pride? It would be such a Bear thing to do, so Bears 23-17.

  12. I haven't watched or even noticed a thing the Washington Football Team has done this year. It appears their HC blames the QB for their 1-4 record so that's cool: https://commanderswire.usatoday.com/2022/10/10/ron-rivera-on-why-other-nfc-east-teams-are-ahead-of-washington-commanders-quarterback-carson-wentz/ Of course he's backpedaling as fast as he can but on a short week there is no better way to get your 1-4 team fired up to go on the road for a nationally televised broadcast where every single player has to answer the "QB" question. WFT offense: Passing 6th in yds but they are bottom 4 in Rushing. but they've tossed 6 INTs. WFT defense: Pas…

  13. The Bears need to win this to keep CAR in the running for the #1 pick. This might be CAR's only chance at winning another game. Will it be the return of Fields? Moore revenge game?

  14. The Bears play a football game in two weeks. Obviously this game is going to be 90% backups and bottom of the roster guys, but we might see some rookies for a couple of plays. I can't believe we are only two weeks away. We made it!

I just read another article on a site I love for unique information I do not see anywhere else on the internet. It always comes across as legitimate and not clickbait. Ryan Griffin. Have you ever heard of him? I hadn't. Yet, it turns out that this was the guy Poles brought in as a veteran mentor for Caleb instead of having to pay a veteran Quarterback a respectable salary to sit behind him on the bench. Griffin has quite a history. Has spent two seasons with Brady, two years with Brees, was a 10 year veteran, and a great locker room leader. An interesting article (and a short and quick read) that proves more than ever, to me, that Poles is quite crafty and thin…

Maxx keeps getting placed to the Lions in trade rumors. Second is Chicago. My question/concern is that he seems to predominantly line up where Montez lines up. Are there any stat sites or accounting profiles that show off either can dominate from the other side?

I wasn't expecting this. I'm definitely expecting this with Thuney. Now it gets interesting to see how much cap space we can free up for this year. https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/news/chicago-bears-act-quickly-to-reward-key-offensive-lineman-with-a-contract-extension

  18. Started by adam,

So I think we can safely say that some of the preseason can be correlated to the regular season. Special Teams was an issue in the preseason, and it was also in Week 1. On punts, MIN's PR Price averaged 17.0 on his returns (which is crazy). Duvernay averaged 9.3. The Bears lost 31 net yards in punt coverage. Wright was 7-333 on punts averaging 47.6. Taylor was 6-266 for only 44.3 per punt. So the Bears lost another 20 net yards in just punts. That is 51 lost yards without the offense or defense on the field, which basically equates to at least 3 pts. I don't know how a punter loses 10 yards off his punts from college to the pros. Then our glorious Capt…

  19. Apparently Marcus Freeman has an enlarged heart, just like Gaines Adams did. His EKG at the Combine was abnormal, so he got a second one. The Bears' doctors either didn't catch his heart condition or didn't think it was a problem (the article doesn't specify,) but when Freeman went to the Colts for a tryout, their doctors said he couldn't safely continue playing. Seriously, I know that awareness of cardiomyopathy among NFL players is just starting to increase, and that these kinds of conditions can be hard to catch in athletes, but it's pretty inexcusable for the Bears' doctors to have missed the diagnosis on both Adams and Freeman. Both these guys passed their ph…
