Yes, Thomas was also a bust for SF. Lynch was clever to con Pace. Then he squandered the bounty he received.

    Poor Mitch

I get it. Trubisky was victimized in part by a piss poor Bears' coaching staff. However, he owns a lot of his failure. I wasn't at all surprised he failed. We sure as hell should have never traded up for him. SF schooled our GM. He certainly did not come into the draft with an impressive college resume. Huge risk! I was pissed, wanting to wait to draft a QB. We could have drafted Watson or Mahomes without giving up draft capital. So when everyone was so complimentary of Pittsburgh signing Trubisky, acting like he was going to be a 'Franchise QB" because of spending a year behind Josh Allen, I had to laugh my ass off. It appears he is proving me right. He will never be any more than an average backup QB. He'll retire 10 years from now after playing for a half dozen teams, complaining he never got a chance to prove himself.
  3. Yes Deebo torched us for 171 yards on 6 receptions. Mitchell ran for 137 yards. Garoppolo threw for 322 yards. We lost 33 to 22. Not close. This was when SF was struggling with a lot of injuries. Now that said, I think that the Bears come away with multiple interceptions against QB Lance, and with Fields taking a step forward with a coaching staff that knows what the hell they are doing, we win and surprise the "experts."
  4. Crap! I was hoping Deebo wouldn't sign until after we played SF week 1

Didn't Newsome impress in preseason last year before sitting the first 14 or 15 games on the Practice Squad? I bought into the hype last year and was disappointed. I will wait to see if I am wrong, but I fear this is just another player who will wind up on another team's PS.

I assume he has totally pissed off Poles, Flus, and the OL Coach is they are thinking of trading a player drafted so high in his 2nd year when we are rebuilding our OL. What possible compensation would we receive? I doubt we'd get more than a conditional 4th and that might be a pipe dream.
  7. I did a Google search and found this:

So Poles is a big tease! Bringing in Schofield and Rieff is huge, adding reliable veterans with loads of experience to protect Fields. Hopefully our young OLmen will continue to develop and be ready to step in to start if/when one or both of these vets get injured. Quinn reporting is comforting, but does not rule out the "rumored" trade possibilities. Even Smith reported, although he will not practice. It's fantastic having Brisker signed!
  9. I agree 100%. I have no doubt Poles had plans on a new contract for Smith. Best do it now and have our Defensive MVP locked up for the next 4 or 5 years. He is, IMO, a top 5 ILB and should be paid as such. I'm okay if it takes a few weeks to get the contract resolved. I'd prefer him stay healthy and fresh for the season, energized by a new contract.
  10. I have to believe losing Dozier for the season due to a knee injury was the reason for Poles to bring in a replacement this late in preseason. I like the addition. Can play both OG & OT. I'm sure he will ne signed to a reasonable 1 year contract.
  11. Interesting. I see from the article I have linked he started 12 games for the Chargers as a OT? (Played in 15 so I assume 3 games at OG) Could be a valuable backup at OG/OT at a minimum. Starter??? Let's see if he is signed. The Bears Worked Out Veteran OL Michael Schofield
  12. I've been noticing all the teams coming up with alternate helmets this year. The Bengal's white version, the Jet's black, etc... So it doesn't surprise me that the Bears will use an alternate orange helmet during the season. The Bears will wear the new orange helmets on Oct. 13 against the Washington Commanders and on Oct. 30 at the Dallas Cowboys.
  13. I'd love to know what the current offers/demands are. Are the Bears offering guaranteed money in the 3rd year of his deal? If so, how much? In comparison, what did they give Gordon in 3rd yr guaranteed money? I know, Gordon was picked 9 spots earlier than Brisker, but it still would be interesting to know. Is Brisker (his agent) being unreasonable? Is he asking for 50K? 100K? 200K? More? There is so much we don't know.
  14. I read an article on NBCSports.com that gave some interesting figures. Phidarian Mathis was drafted one pick before Brisker and received $111K guaranteed in the third year of his contract from the Washington Commanders. New England Patriots drafted wide receiver Tyquan Thornton two picks after Brisker, and he received no guaranteed money in the third year of his deal. I can't believe it would take a rocket scientist to figure out an acceptable figure for Brisker. We are talking nickels and dimes when compared to NFL contracts. This doesn't require a huge sacrifice by either party.
  15. This sort of thing really pisses me off! Back before rookie salaries were slotted I understood problems with negotiations among the high draft picks. However, this type of crap, guaranteed money on year 3 of a 4 year contract, is ridiculous. Does this kid want to start off his first preseason on the sideline watching his teammates get ready to rumble? Hell, get the f**k out there and prove you need a new contract in year three because you're so damn good! That is the way to negotiate! Not playing with your willie while everyone else is kicking ass.
  16. In regards to maintaining an active and interesting discussion about our beloved Bears, I believe this offseason you guys, our faithful posters on Bearstalk, did an amazing job. I thank and applaud all of you!
  17. Not too surprising. His play at the end of his time in Chicago showed he no longer had the mindset to be an elite player. I'm sure Poles saw the same thing in his evaluations. DT Eddie Goldman informs Falcons he intends to retire
  18. I found an old Combine/Draft profile/preview that listed him at 4.53 for the 40. Good for a DL, OL, LB, but not so thrilling for a WR. Then I read he is poor route runner, slow out of his breaks, and therefore, not surprisingly, has a bad YAC. But hey, he is tall. LOL For a 7th in 2024, I guess they are right, it is worth bringing him in and see what he has to offer. With all of these question marks at WR, will we be able to offer enough opportunities in preseason to evaluate them?
  19. Well I hope it is a conditional 7th that turns out to be no pick if this guy fails to make the final cut, which wouldn't surprise me. Teams don't give up on "former" 1st round picks without good reason.
  20. Last time I was able to go to a Bears camp was when they were training in Platteville. I had a blast. Unfortunately, I now have trouble just walking across my bedroom, so I will probably never attend another TC. I hope you enjoy your trip. Be sure to give us your impressions after observing them working out.

    Trade Quinn?

Article on NFL.com on 10 teams with holes to fill mentions Baltimore, Kansas City, and LA Rams as teams in need of an edge rusher. lemonej made a good case for Arizona needing help at the position. Adam mention Cowboys and Steelers. It seems like there are a lot of teams that might be interested in Quinn prior to the trading deadline. Would we trade him? If the Bears surprise everyone by starting off strong, I don't think they trade Quinn. If, however, they start off below .500, I think they would entertain a trade for the right compensation. The important factor in what we'd receive in return for Quinn would be his production at that point. He stays healthy, racks up 6-8 sacks early in the season, we might get a damn good trade. Here is the link to the article (which mentions Bears in need of WR). Article by Kevin Patra??? Never heard of the guy. 2022 NFL season: 10 biggest remaining roster holes heading into training camp
  22. I just watched the video with Braxton. I'm very impressed. A well spoken young man who seems to have a great attitude. I don't know if it will be week one or week 6 or week ??? but I honestly believe he will be our starting LOT at some point in the near future.

    Trade Quinn?

There has been speculation since Poles began shaking things up about a possible trade of Quinn. The best I remember reading said for us to get max value for a trade of Quinn to look at what Denver did last November, during the season, before the trade deadline. The got good value waiting for a team needing a pass rusher to help them out on defense. If Quinn has a good start for season I could see a team trading some good picks for Quinn mid-season. Of course, this would also depend on what the Bears are doing. If they are off to a good start they may not want to trade Quinn.
  24. I read notes on today's final day of workouts. It mentions that Jones will be joining Fields and Mooney in Atlanta during their break, I assume staying with Fields at his home. It also hints that others, including Kmet, 'may' be joining them. I was excited when I learned Mooney and Fields spent time together bonding before OTAs. I was hoping Jones and Pringle would join them after OTAs. I'm excited that Jones is indeed going to Atlanta. Now I pray Pringle will join them as I honestly think he will be a starter with Mooney, Jones, and Kmet, giving Fields plenty of weapons to show everyone he is the real deal.
  25. Now guys, don't roast me for asking this. I'm not a GM or Scout by any figment of one's imagination. (Plus my memory is crap and getting worse by the years). Didn't Jenkins play some OG in college before moving to OT? Does he have the body, the traits needed, to play OG in the NFL? If Borom at ROT and Jones at LOT turns out to be our best OT combo, would it be a possible solution to our OG problem to move Jenkins to the inside?
