  1. The Chicago Bears have hired John DeFilippo to be the new QB coach. Dave Ra-gone is not gone but now a passing coordinator.
  2. Another name Lazor worked with... Nick Foles in 2013 and it was an RPO offense. Found the info in this article https://www.bengals.com/news/lazor-oversees-offense-s-hybrid-evolution-20555917 Lazor might be able to help simplify the system making it easier to grasp. Still need a oline that can function, maybe Castillo will help on that.
  3. Not saying Montgomery wouldn't be the feature, but we cannot count on Cohen to take over if Monty goes down. I'd feel better if they had another back on the roster that can. Maybe one with a little more speed to mix it up occasionally too because I hate seeing Cohen run for the sideline like its paydirt.
  4. I remember liking Derek Henry, saying if we don't take Gurley in 2015, we can take Henry in 16. I'd be good with taking OT with our first 2nd rd pick, trading down with the next to gain a 3rd RD and then drafting TE and RG. We can find a good back in 4th/5th to compliment Montgomery/Cohen. We've invested in CB with Skrine/Tolliver/Shelly which can lighten the blow of losing Prince. OLB/SS will be difficult, but maybe Floyd can be reworked making it team friendly. Use the 4/5 on a SS and a 6th on OLB. With any cap space, bring in another OLB. The hardest part would be getting Nagy to go with power run. He cannot envision how a great run game would make his pass game much more potent.
  5. Two positions make it difficult to choose. Smith is a lock and Kwit and KPL fill in fine, so Trevathan is easier to let go. Floyd may not be glamour, but he does just enough besides get sacks. Have to say make Floyd an offer if he refuses use the money to lock the ILB down.
  6. And Miller has a baby on the way. Floyd will depend on the money. No way they pay him his 5th yr money. Pay him as a rotational OLB and then maybe. Leno will be back. LT is almost as hard to find as a QB. I hope they find valid competition, but it takes usually rookie OL a year or more to get strong enough. Find one technically sound and they might get by. They haven't drafted OT forever it feels. Should be done almost every other year. I hope the new coach earns his pay and turns the line around. It would be more beneficial to have that.
  7. I'd be happy to make the playoffs on the regular right now. Two playoff years out of 10 years (2010, 2018). Let's get to the top 10 before asking to be a top 5. Need a QB for that, this is do or die for MT.
  8. One thought I have is what percentage of plays called are RPO. How many fail due to oline missing assignment, how many are on the WR running wrong route. How many on QB making a bad read/throw? How do you block an RPO if you cannot block more than 1 yd downfield? They are supposed to try to block laterally. I like the concept, but RPO makes everyone's job nearly impossible. Maybe we have good enough players for a standard offense. Just adding some thoughts to consider. Instead of starting all over fron top to bottom, maybe change concepts

    Rd 2 TEs

I think extending Floyd to a 3 year deal and keeping it modest would be ok. Draft a 2nd round talent that can compete with him and maybe competition can make the best out of the two and give us ammo if another team needs a OLB down the road. Hard to say if any of these TEs will grade out high enough, but I'd leave open or trade down some to gain a possible 3rd. For SS, Amos was a 4th rd, so there is hope finding one later too.
  10. I see it as a unit problem with MT included. They need a lot if growing from oline to WRs making catches and MT making the throws and reads. The coach needs to have them ready or change it to what they can do.

    Rd 2 TEs

Hard to say what his verdict will be by April, but it is a route I can see the Bears going by grabbing a TE/OLB in round 2. The kid from ND could be one to they look at. We will need a OLB page for sure. The Bears don't need a superstar, just someone that can deliver the sacks when needed.

    Rd 2 TEs

He would be a steal imo and a piece the Bears were missing. We can say the oline and QB are also missing, but I dont think the Bears go too crazy in the draft there besides possibly filling the RG. If they can get Bryce Hopkins TE and the say OLB Terrell Lewis Alabama, they would fill 2 huge needs, but won't be able to trade down for more picks either. Sign Floyd to a friendly 3 year deal or cut him and have him rotate with a guy that reminds me a little of Von Miller. Draft with no trades: 2a - Bryce Hopkins TE Pur 2b- Terrell Lewis OLB Al 4- Ben Bredeson OG Mich (Road Grader) 5- DeeJay Dallas RB Mia (just for Club Dub) (also versatile player WR/RB/KR) 6a Charlie Heck OT UNC (Andy Hecks son/KC and Bear connection) 6b Luq Barcoo CB SDSU sleeper that will climb boards 7 Case Cookus QB N Arz St -another sleeper that will climb too
  13. 2020 season is it, do or die for Nagy. Not much we can do about it but hope he figures something out. If he fails, hopefully he fails bad and the Bears get a high 1st rd pick that they can use to lure a coach and maybe a GM. No sense on trying to find a HC that will be stuck with Trubisky, little draft picks etc and knowing you don't get a shot at turning it around.
  14. The Bears never fire a coach this early in a contract. Record wise, he deserves another year even though I think it was him that regressed the unit. They probably didn't want to fire all the assistants they did, but they had to do something. What they need to do is bring in a real OC that can design an offense to our player strengths or get the players Nagy needs for his. Which one is easier? The RPO should only be used when a lead is established as a change of pace. Stick to power run with play action since the line cannot do the in between garbage guessing what the QB reads. As for players to bring in, get a TE you can count on, this is #1. Find a road grading RG and a LT to challenge both OTs. Defensively they need a OLB that can get to the QB if they decide to double or triple Mack. Find a DB or two if Tolliver/Shelly isn't ready and if HHCD walks. They can use a speed WR and another RB to knock Cohen to #3. The 3rd place schedule should make the Bears better alone. Health, a few additions, and an offense that works should bring some hype back. Let it play out. If not, then 2021 we should have ammo to rebuild QB and more.
  15. Looks like the Bears cleared a little extra cap space for 2020 by converting some of Fullers guarantee to a bonus. Maybe some of it will be for a vet QB? Not sure a vet will makes us much better unless they can get better run/pass blocking and also commit more to running the ball. I have recently heard how hard it is to block a RPO offense. The linemen have to tip toe not knowing how to block. Cannot road grade and get too far down field when the QB opts to pass and vice versa. If they go the vet route, they will be giving that offense uo and MT in my opinion. Phillip Rivers will not come here to run Nagys offense.
  16. Floyd with no dead money= no brainer to cut. Sad to see another draft pick bite the dust, but you have to produce.
  17. This was a thrown away year. Just once I'd like to see an offense built for the players we have. Gase seemed like the only one to try.
  18. Since Trubisky somewhat rebounded, I no longer see the Bears using a 2nd RD pick on a QB either better to wait as AZ says. I can see them getting a good Guard to try to solidify the center of the oline again. OT is a possibility and decent RTs can be found in RD2 also. TE is definitely on the need list, that piece has been critically missing and hurting this offense and with Pace, I can see him trading up again to get one (sigh). Defense wise, the Bears need another pass rusher to bring the heat. Floyd does well on everything but that and not worth 13 million. CB/S because I don't think Prince comes back and HaHa might seek more money. I will say another DT/DE could be in the mix because you can see how the D dropped off after Hicks injury and you rarely even know if Goldman is on the team. It is time some of the younger players step up and being out of the hunt is prime time to play them. I'd like to see Iggy, Bush, Tolliver, and Shelly get a majority of the playing time.
  19. I was kind of joking on Iggy, I remembered something about he is a tweener S/LB size and speed wise. It would be nice to see him come in the picture as we thought he would after spending a 4th RD.
  20. Bears draft Joel Iyiegbuniwe, who played safety in High School ?
  21. Leno is not going anywhere. Not going to say they won't draft a LT prospect but there is no way they will start a rookie at the 2nd most important position in the NFL. The Bears actually gain more yardage running LT and Left End. Leno also ranks pretty well among LTs in QB protections. He does get a lot of penalties, maybe because he needs every advantage. Sure it would be nice to get better there, but he will be there all of next year and hopefully there is a replacement pushing him for that spot 2021. With our draft position, I think they can get a great RG or maybe RT. We will see what the think of Cowherd and Barr, who should be in the picture next season.
  22. Getting some young db studs is a need. Prince was falling down and missing too many tackles. Tight end also a need cant count on our UDFA's to make the difference needed. Need more out of the RB. Montgomery i dont think is the answer to be the bell cow, I still like him but not a difference maker.
  23. Prince is hurting the team being out there. Mitch playing well, if his ball placement was a little better he could be having a huge game.
  24. That would be a nice addition. Too bad Patterson could not be that piece. Gabriel has/had the speed but his height dampers that advantage. I thought about adding WR as a draft need, but the team is limited with bigger issues. I would almost put a #2 RB ahead of WR since they cut Davis. I still like Nall, but they seem to avoid the kid.
  25. Needs: CB, OLB, TE, G, QB, RB, OT, S, ILB, K. If they can get two starters out of the draft it would be a success. It might take trading down with one of the 2nds for a lower 2nd and a high 3rd, but those are highly valued and might be a tough sell.
