    Shelton at Combine

With Shelton not looking good at the Combine, why not explore going after Terrence Knighton in FA and Justin Houston. Then we can truly draft the BPA and if that is a OL or CB or whatever then they are starting to add depth. A NT rotation of Knighton, Ratliff and Ferguson sounds nice since we are going to 3/4 which I hate. Then figuring the OLBs and 5 tech DEs Allen, Houston, Washington,Bass, Houston, Young ,McClellin,Bostic,Lattimore, and Sutton.
  2. Yep Yep! Cleveland is the same team that fleeced the Colts for the 1st rounder they got this year for Trent Richardson. Thats why I think its a new day there as well as here.
  3. I'm not in agreement with that. For the simple reason that in his 4 year stint in Columbus what NFL RB that he developed is revered now? The 2 that I can think of in the league now are Carlos Hyde and Beenie Wells neither strike fear in DCs in the league.
  4. Agreed but, it was brought to me as if I was dismissing what he did. That is not the case. I feel this is a league of 2nd chances and for Cody a new start in a new city and a new staff can be beneficial. This thread was started as a what if.
  5. So you are saying the other 2 were not nose tackles? So that supports my point. Nose tackles are generally taken later in round 1 and after. This is the recent trend. Raji for example I believe is a UFA and can be had if that what they ar going to do but if I'm Pace and Fox I tell Ferguson to pick up weight and put him in a rotation with Ratliff who has played in th 0 tech before.
  6. Who the Hell would be stupid enough two give up to 1st rounders for Cutler now with the question marks surrounding if the Bears would keep him or not?The trade would be our 1st rounder for their 2 1st rounders and a swap of some picks in maybe the 3rd or 4th.The other thing is we would still take a cap hit for what Cutler is guaranteed next year, so why not keep him for the year and let him showcase his value to some willing boob. I'm really interested in the Combine to see what the other QBs besides Winston and Marriotta(who allegedly is not working out there) do.
  7. At the time the Bears signed Allen to basically replace Julius Peppers we all seemed to like and the fact that Sutton was drafted where he was drafted had me happy with the pick but, hindsight is always 20-20.
  8. The same climate that allows Michael Vick to stay in the league!
  9. I agree and hope that there is more of an approach to attack undrafted FA with more of a vengeance than bowling for FA dollars. The two teams that played in the Super Bowl generally draft their core and supplement with trades and key Fa acquisitons.
  10. Outstanding write chitown and this is exactly what I wanted to see when I started this thread! My first recollection of Ernie Banks comes from 1965 on the first game I attended which was Ernie Banks day 1965. I was 5 years old and overwhelmed by the crowd reaction when he hit a grand slam which my dad had to explain to me during the game but I was hooked on this guy after that.Through the years my oldest brother and I would play wiffle ball in the house and imitate Jack Brickhouse doing play by play of our indoor game(Don't tell my mom she still thinks the lamp got broke while we were cleaning house). Imitating everything from his batting stance and wiggling fingers to his corny Cub slogans for the years. " The Cubs will shine in 69" and the Cubs will glow in 70. As an African American it is really sad for me that this ground breaking man who had a perpetual smile regardless of what he endured is no longer here to be a beakon of light to some of today's youth on just how much things have changed in this country during his lifetime.I will always remeber Ernie Banks as a hero regardless of what some may try to uncover about him post mortem for monetary gain. I thank everyone who have posted so far in a thread that is really personal to me and I guess a few of you.
  11. With Lattimore and Louis-Jean already being signed and several futures contracts. This offseason has already begun.
  12. No first round Danny Shelton needed.
  13. Jason you know after the first 2 rounds when I do a mock I wind sock after that all my revisions change from round three to the end. My last mock had his teammate Laken Tomlinson OG in RD 3. I was criticized for that and thought it would be a pipe dream for him lasting that long.
  14. Which of those names are Nose tackles and which are 3 tech?
  15. I like Shane Ray as much as I like Amari Cooper. Ray comes from a school that produces good defensive prospects that get after the QB regularly with Aldon Smith (Fazio) being one of them. IMO with Pace just evaluating players to fit Rob Ryan's scheme to recommend to the GM he has to have some insight into who would best fit that scheme. He also has Fox who will understand the limitations of the salary cap in regards to players' contracts and who might be coachable to a new scheme. Again IMO there are too many players that fit a hybrid 4-3 sheme that would have to be let go in order for a true transition to take place. Lets not forget that when Fox was a Dc he ran a 4-3 and I believe his Carolina D was a base 4-3. This is all semantics since most teams now are rarily in whatever base scheme on the first play of the game contengent on personnel.
  16. Recent draft history shows that no teams are taking many pure nose tackles in the top ten and in the last 3 drafts no defensive tackles were taken in the top 10. Going all the way back to the 2007 draft here is a list of all the DTs that were drafted in the top 10; 2014. None 2013. None 2012. None 2011. Marcell Dareus #3 2010. Ndamukong Suh #2 Gerald McCoy #3 Tyson Aluala #10 2009. BJ Raji #9 2008. Glenn Dorsey #5 Sedrick Ellis #7 2007.Amobi Okoye #10 Most of these picks were made with pass rush in mind with the eception of Dareus ,Raji and Aluala.
  17. I believe Lattimore was a practice squad player that looked decent in preseason.
  18. Not only is Tillman the best corner in Bears' history, he is also the most physical and the best humanitarian that I can remember on the team. With Fox and Pace reaching out to Urlacher and former players I envision a scenario with he and Briggs at least being allowed to come to TC and give it one last go. I could be dreaming but again offseason acquisitions will say it all. We have a little over a month to wait.
  19. I still believe that Emery made that pick to outsmart Green Bay and not do what was best for the current coaching staff's scheme. Prior to the draft it was strongly rumored that GB was on Shea. Seeing some of the pre-draft videos of Shea he lined up everywhere similar to Urlacher and I felt that he could be the heir aparent at the MLB spot because of his range in coverage in the videos I saw. So when Urlacher got shown the door, I figured Shea to MLB and Bostic to SAM. I still like the idea and belive inside is where he might be best as oppossed to Bostic who needs to be limited to one side of the field.
  20. 1. Shane Ray DE/OLB Seeing Aldon Smith flourish in Fangio's D makes him a favoritefor this pick 2.Denzel Perryman ILB This could be the leader we need on defense. 3.Jamison Crowder WR/KR Grew tired of seeing the kneel down or the tackle before the 20 on kickoffs 4.Donovan Smith OT We need to have some young OL in place for future 6. Anthony Jefferson SS Lets try again! 7 Tyler Heincke QB This may be a fantasy. His height not ideal but he needs a good showing at the combine to be drafted.
  21. Agreed.I went on NFL.com and went to draft history to gather the picks. In the case of both Fox and Fangio two of the first rounders were Aldon Smith and Von Miller. That is why I could see the Bears being high on Shane Ray a Mizzou product just like Smith.
  22. The best way to try and gauge how Pace will draft is to see how the Saints drafted while he was there and how both Denver and SF drafted with Fox as well as Fangio in SF some stats. NO with Pace(since he is drafting for whole team) I did 10 years of overall positions QB 2 RB 3 FB 1 WR 9 TE1(Jimmy Graham) OT 7 OG 4 C 1 DE 5 DT 5 LB 9 S 6 CB 8 K 1 P 1 SF with Fangio as DC I'm doing defensive draft picks only to see how they fed his defense. DT 1 DE 3 LB 7 CB 6 S 5 Denver running the same projected scheme that we will run under Fox drafted this way: Again defense only DT 2 DE3 LB 5 CB 3 S 2 In our projected defensive scheme it seems like there is always a turnover at the LB position and the secondary positions especially at CB and OLB. WTBS I can see that one of the edge rushers may be a target at 7 unless they throw us a curve and stick with the 4-3
  23. I am truly saddened by the passing of one of my childhood heroes Ernie Banks aka Mr. Cub. By me being one of the true nuts who roots for both Chicago baseball teams because of the way my dad did this. My spring and summers consisted of Cubs baseball in the afternoon on channel 9 (WGN) and White Sox at night on the transitor radio since the Sox played more night games home and away. Ernie Banks epitomized what we all would hope the sports teams we root for players would be. Personable, productive, approachable and entusiastic about their team and the city they play in. RIP Mr Cub. My Chicago Sports Mt Rushmore: Halas-Banks-Hull- Jordon
  24. My bad I've been trying to find out how many picks and what their numerical numbers were for a while.
  25. Agreed about the QB coach. Perfect example is Pep Hamilton who Cutler didn't like is thriving in Indy. The key guy to this will be Gase and he will have full authority to choose how he deals with Cutler.Similar to when Fox allowed McCoy to bench Orton in favor of Tebow.
