I'm not disagreeing with Hester being approached for a renegotiation but , I can't see Lovie being on board with him being cut if he doesn't take a pay cut, since he is big on field position and regardless of how many passes Hester catches, he does flip field position on returns and don't believe for one moment that Hester won't be used on kickoffs. He will be back there with Weems in a pick your poison type of situation on every kickoff. If I remeber correctly Weems is also good at coverage on kicks as a gunner etc. This season will go a long way towards determining if the Bears try and add on one more time for an SB run. They have to be at least in the NFC Championship for them to feel okay about paying aging veterans for one more SB run.

I have to continue to support that opinion because of my college season gushing about this kid. I like the fact that he will will not have to come in and be the number 1 and can get acclimated to the game watching some real veteran WRs that have a rapport with Cutler. In college when Stephen Garcia was the QB Jeffrey was outstanding. Jeffrey's production suffered from Garcia having a cocktail or two while he was on a short leash for violating team rules.

I wouldn't go that far but, the way he works out seems to be more for upper body strength and less for stamina. He needs to do more for endurance similar to what marathoners do. Forte looks good when he reports to came but he hasn't been able to avaid nagging injuries during the season.

OT: Explain your username and how you became a Bears fan
lemonej replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
I came from the bearstalk site also and remember Pix saying that I was one of the fastest ever to reach my first 500 posts, obviously I have mellowed a little since then but love the fact that we still have a place to be a Bears' fanatic. -
What does it say about who was trying to draft safeties for this scheme over those 8 picks? In most of those cases the team stuck the rookies out there and then put them in the dog house after they continued to make mistakes. That points toward the DB coaches. I can remember Brandon Mc Gowan replacing Harris late in the season in his rookie year. All recent draft picks at this position as well as some undrafted guys from the same year have seen the field in their first year with the team. I also have to lay blame at the HC's feet since he has sometimes gotten extremely involved in trying to coach up a couple of these guys to no avail.

This is not surprising since he was cut during the season and was brought back when Waters went down. With him not being an option on defense as young as he is, he became expendable as the Bears continue to have a revolving door at safety. The Bears have several young players at the position with 3 more rookies added this offseason.

I have a couple of points to make on this very subject. Forte IMO could be capable of being a good short yardage back if: 1.He actually is on the field in those situations 3rd down and goal line. How many times could you see Forte take himself out of the game after a long gain that got the team down in the redzone? That in itself needs to stop.If he wants to get paid like the "Bell Cow" then he should realize that after those long gains the defenders are tired also man up and finish the drive. To be considered a great back you need to score rushing TDs. 2. OL blocking scheme needs to be tweaked a bit with them firing off more on the goal line instead of what looked like the influence or angle blocks they have used.I was frustrated on many redzone plays that you could see the interior guys who are the most important in goal line situations get pushed back in the backfield and having the play disrupted. Why not every once in a while use a 5 man OL. 3. When Forte is in the game actually hand the ball off to him on first down instead of 3rd.(Turner) I can remember the ball being handed to a FB named Davis during Turner's tenure that had me going ballistic during a game. 4 With the addition of some big WRs as redzone targets it would be wise to have Forte on the field to create some confusion for the defense to figure out. These are keys to Forte being better in this situation and this team as a whole can improve in converting redzone trips into TDs.Gould has made quite a few FGs in his career since he got here.

1. Chandler Jones DE if I take a risk it would have been on this guy. 2. Jeffrey for obvious reasons since I declared myself the Pres of his fan club but couldn't spell his name right.lol 3. Trade up for Stepenson OT Okla or take Spence OLB Miami. 4. Massie 6. Stayed with the pick 7. Nate Potter OT Boise He as well as Massie dropped significantly as well as other OTs in this draft.Early in the process I thought he was a 3rd Rd pick .

I like the fact that we took a player that Pats and packers liked and learning that he played some snaps at al 7 front 7 positions is very intriguing to me. Could it be they may do some tweaking to the Lovie 2? Watching Marinelli take his star DE and move him inside last year leads me to believe this kid may allow him a few more exotic packages in terms of blitz schemes etc.

Not Bears, but heard Junior Seau just committed suicide

Maybe roids? That strange episode of him falling asleep behind the wheel and driving off the road 2 years ago had people whispering this very same thing. -
Of all the guys drafted he and Hardin are the 2 who I think need to be in the facility now. Stein is a helluva negotiator when it comes to rookie contracts.

Jason I aree with your assessment to a certain degree but this staff added 11 UDFAs last year in a shortened TC. Kyle Adams, Armando Allen, Dom De Cicco, Ricky Henry, Levi Horn, Dane Sazenbacher, Andre Smith, Patrick Trahan, Winston Venable and Anthony Waters during the last season. When its all said and done this staff is who is making the final decision on the fringe players on the roster

2 years ago the Steelers were in the SB so their line was good enough to get them in there. They played last year without Colon so automatically with his healthy return they would be improved. Add to t6hat the 2 draft picks and now you have a young starter at OG and a young OT for depth.Last year they brought Starks in off the street after TC. Like QBs in Martz's system Big Ben tends to hold on to the ball a little longer going for the big play and they will also be in the same situation as us with a new OC.If it was just their O-line the OC wouldn't be in Indy now.

Add Michael Lombardi to the list with a B+ and Mayock felt they did alright also. I heard Hub on the radio yesterday AM saying the Bears reached for McClellin. He always has to say something negative since he got pink slipped.

This a look back at JA's first draft and a current look at Phil Emery's first draft. Here's my view. Jerry Angelo Phil Emery 1.Marc Colombo 1 .Shea McClellin 2. Roosevelt Williams 2. Alshon Jeffrey 3.Terrrence Metcalf 3. Brandin Harden 4. Alex Brown 4. Evan Rodriguez 5. Bobby Gray 5. no pick 6. Bryan Knight 6. Isaiah Frey 6. Jamin Elliott 7. Greg McCoy 6. Bryan Fletcher. This is what we should be evaluating if we want to see if we have the right guy making the picks and we won't know for a couple of years.

Agreed on all posts and have been on this band wagon for quite some time but Williams injury history should have been considered during this process. If that was taken into consideration you have to add atleast one body as a draft pick that you are commiting to develop. As fans we are currently looking at the list of undrafted OL that we think might help depth-wise.So we have to hope James Brown of Troy and AJ Greene of Albany are lightning in a bottle.
-
Agreed and according to all my research these were all guys that were ranked higher than where they were drafted. Add to that their very productive top two picks last draft Green and Dalton and they have started to turn the corner in terms of drafting talent and they didn' trade out of the first round and actually took both picks in that round. After making the playoffs last year the arrow is pointing up for them.BTW I like the Steelers first 5 picks also as being spot on.

OT: Explain your username and how you became a Bears fan
lemonej replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
I am a lifelong Chicagoan(currently living in the Burbs) born in 1959 in Cook County Hospital. I can first remember the Bears in the 66 season with Butkus ,Sayers and Dick Gordon in their 2nd years in the league. I had two T-shirts as a kid back then that my mother wouls have to pry off of me one had the number 5 on it and since my whole family was totally Bears, they wouldn't call me Paul Horning for obvious reasons so it was Falcons RB Harmon Wages. I have no idea how good he was but he was a NFL RB and thats all that mattered. The other numbered shirt that I would sleep in was #40,I'm sure I don't have to explain. As for my monicker lemonej, the first part is from the shape of my head accordding to my 16 inch softball teammates. One of my longtime friends was pissed because me and another of my teammates were winning constantly during cards in a game called Bid Whist that is pretty popular amongst African Americans so he yelled out that "we are getting our a** kicked by a Lemonhead and a Boston Baked Bean"The reference was intended to be an insult to me because of the shape of my head and my lighter complexion as an African American but I embraced it and actually had the balls to have the name put on the back of my team jersey with the numbers 00. Those from the other board remember me as lemonej00. The ej part of my user name is because my name is Eric Jacobs. This is a nice thread!!!! -
Agreed and sometimes(directing this to myself) knowing too much info can be detrimental when it comes to these prospects. I keep telling myself to wait and see how these guys will do. Arm chair GMs are never satisfied and never get fired.LOL
-
Well from this list you posted they drafted all 3 guys from this group.
-
I don't know if your post was in general or directed to me but as posters and fans we do have the right to disagree with what moves the team makes. I too do extensive research on draft prospects every year looking at top 100 rankings in August also. So if I make a comment it usually is based on my research not emotion.

The problem with that thought is that he has been described as not being a deep middle type safety and is more of a thumper. This pick IMO is another attempt to get a John Lynch,Brian Dawkins and Bob Sanders type hitter on the field as well as depth forthe position as Conte ended the season on IR and Wright is a training room regular.
-
Yes you can. When Urlacher came out no one knew what position he would play at this level because he too played all over the field as New Mexico's Rover. The 40 time is about a tenth of a second different at 10 pounds heavier I'll take that as similar. That idiot Blache insisted on playing Urlacher at SLB when he basically played mostly in space in college.

GBN ranked the Bears pick of Hardin the Best of the 3rd rd.
