At the risk of Stinger chiming in I'll say do you recall where we were the last time our team went 10-6? And how now it could be considered an improvement? Oddly enough, Fox was dismissed from Denver after going 12-4 and being one year removed from a SB appearance. Anyhow, that being said yes Id have to agree with O'Hara. I saw the same article. He's right that there is still too much talent on the offense to not be good...despite Cutler still playing. And with some of the upgrades on defense and the draft yet to come I can't see how the defense could be any worse. But when it's all said and done I think what really is going to make a difference this year is the GM and especially the coaching staff. With Fox, Fangio and Gase running the show I have much more faith than I have the last few years.

I'd agree somewhat especially with all these 1 year signings. Emery did virtually the same thing for a year or two yet Pace is getting better press out of it. But one of the BIG differences is that John Fox not only was hired by him he has him there helping with talent evaluation. And he and Fox have built a pretty reputable coaching staff. So far the signings make sense and the draft will underscore how successful he (Pace) is. I'm thinking positively at the moment.

I'll say this. Although Im really disappointed in Tillman leaving, I'm not nearly as bothered by it as I was with Urlacher. Don't get the feeling I did then that a 'Bear legend' departure was mishandled. So far so good with Pace and crew. Seems to be a class act. I was actually the one that drew comparisons to Singletary. Mostly due to the replicated size and that you were making the comparison to how 'small' he was which Stinger attempted to substantiate. I was going to use Urlacher as a comparison but we all realize he was much bigger at 6'4" and 250ish. Oddly though he started as a Safety and beefed up through college. He was closer in weight coming out of HS. Anyhow the fact he was a safety and ended up as a LB is as intriguing as having someone as Thompson who could theoretically do the same in reverse. Where Urlacher was larger he was also quick. Thompson is quick and I'd agree that maybe he'd be better in space. Maybe instead as an OLB rather ILB? Would be have to rush the QB each play? No. In fact it would be better to have him there to cover the intermediate passing lanes. With his safety experience he'd be perfect for that. And by the way another cool fact about him is his versatility. He also played RB a few times for Washington last year. I will agree with you that as time wears on I don't see him as a second rounder anymore. Wouldn't be surprised to see him still there in the 3rd. Which is where the Bears should take him if not sooner.

What happened with your love for Collins out of Alabama? I think there is something to be said for the history at the position (nod to Terra Tor) and he could be the long term solution there. Or don't your think he'll be available at 7? I really like the Thompson pick. I've been a huge fan of his since Bucky Brooks paired him to the Bears in his mock many months ago. And I'll give you credit on your offensive side with choosing Cooper as your first pick. But I'm surprised you didn't mention Grasnu (spelling?) as either a third or fourth rounder? Although I'm not surprised you liked Fisher at #2.

Agreed, the future at this point needs to be looking at the D. But with consideration at BPA. If you find a great skill player you almost can't pass.

So let me get this straight, when Rodgers is 'harassed' it's because of blown up plays and many guys doing the wrong thing. Whereas, and if I understand you right, the Oline was more or less the sole reason for Cutler's issues? What happened to all the players that were "running the wrong routes"? And Cutler throwing into double and triple coverage? Or when he holds the ball too long and fumbles? Or when he notoriously decides to take the offense play-calling into his own hands and audibles to the wrong plays? Does none of that contribute to his play? Again, it comes down to who was running the offense. And that last year's oline was more a hodge-podge assembly than it was the year prior. As you agreed, McCown did well in his starts two years ago as did Clausen in his one last year. The oline difference in the two years? Consistency of the manning.

This might be the most sensible idea. There is a lot of like for Cutler in the Tenessee area. I'm not sure the option of this years 1st and next years with Cutler for #2 overall is enough though. With the money Cutler demands and Cutler being Cutler it can't be very inviting for Ken Whisenhunt. He's dangling by a thread as it is, bringing Cutler over would most certainly send him to the unemployment line next year.

First thing, don't compare Cutler to the others like you did. There ain't one to be made, even IF he had what you consider an all star line. Secondly we've discussed here numerous times that Rodgers has been statistically harassed (sacked and hurried) more times than Cutler in some instances and produced better. Obviously this isn't about me bashing Cutler...again but the second part of that point was about the comparison of oline efficiency. Back about 2-3 years ago the Bears built a pretty good oline with bringing Slausen and Busrod over through FA and drafting Long and Mills along with keeping Garza as the center. (Yes I'll grant that Long was 1st round and has since proven himself - oddly where was he rated out of college and how many went 'huh' when he was drafted?). Yet despite it all Cutler still played like Cutler enough that McCown looked better when put in his place. During that time I think the argument could be made they equally had the same opportunities but provided differnt results. Cutler is Cutler and there is no avoiding it. Similar to how AZ says he doesn't think this guy is necessarily 7th round material Id agree. i still think skill positions are more important. If the Bears trade spots and move down the board still not sure olineman is the answer. Still have to think there are more important needs at Safety, WR and Corner that need to be addressed before this.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Although I would've swore he was much older. Looks like he played with both Lamarr Houston and Earl Thomas while at Texas. And if memory serves they had a pretty good D in 2010-11.
