Not to dwell on a dark subject but looking back at the New England game. The one thing that was glaring to me was the time of possession during the first half. I don't have the numbers in front of me but they were definitely skewed in favor of NE. The by-product of this was the defense being on the field for a long time. That and the glaring weakness of the Cover 2 (dink and dunking) was how NE not only ate up a lot of clock but also scored most of their points. Yesterday was an example of how the Offense was able to meet NY score for score; not something that the traditional Bears scheme is made up nor as a fan am I accustomed to see. Is it that Martz' plan is starting to gel and opposing teams are actually more concerned with the O rather than the D? Interesting concept for a team from Chicago.

Instead of Santa could I ask the girl in the picture for my wish list? Or is it too late? Happy Holidays and take care. All my best to all of you! Go Bears!!

You know he wondered if the camera were trained on him... Maybe why he took so long. But I do like your perspective..the back and forth. Hilarious. Somewhere Marriucci and rich Eisen are crying.

Hey if I read at the end of the year: 'After getting lucky through the playoffs the Bears luckily win over a far superior (insert opposing team here) to win their first Super Bowl since 1985'. I could care less about the speculation. I'll say it again..."that's why they play the game".

Something I couldn't help but notice that noone is trying to help him up. Just looking at his pathetic self...lying there. Hell even Leber is there, who is on Defense and ready to take over by the by, looking down wondering how long before Favre decides to get up. Just seems poetic.

So is it me or do we seem to be lacking news this week with the upcoming Jets / Bears contest? I mean really.. Noots where are you? Jeesh.. You'd think it was Christmas time or something. Terra... Anyone?!?! Go Bears and Happy Holidays all.

Some have commented on this before and I would have to agree that at the very least Martz will more than likely return. Mostly due to his track record and teams knowing this. Historically (while at Stl, SF and Det) the second or concurrent years have not always been as successful. Marinelli will also stick around me thinks especially when noone seems to be able to forget that he was the HC in Detroit during "that 0-16" year. And you have to think that both guys are head coordinators in their repective fields which all told really isn't all that bad. Of the coaches who could go I could see Tice being lured maybe for an OC job but still that's a long shot. Toub realistically is the one that will be courted the most. Considering the mangement admitted earlier this year if Lovie had been fired Toub would have taken over as HC. And he is just successful in what he does..time and again. In large part I think the majority of the team will remain as it is. Happy Holidays in return.

Noots' Notes Game 14: 40-14 Win over Minnesota
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Noots's topic in Bearstalk
Wasnt even close to "berating". Berating would be some of the replies you get when you ask some here about Coach Lovie (of who I am a fan). Actually i would agree that the oline has improved overall. I was just noting some particulars about the line and specifically the interior. And, speaking of fans, I am one of Kreutz' too but watching him this year it has become apparent to me that he is simply nearing his shelf life. He has been a loyal and reliable Bear for a good number of years now and I hope, should he choose to retire, this year the team has a great send off for him. As far as Garza and Williams go I simply said that I didn't know what the deal with him (Garza) was. Seems he goes back and forth with his ability. Not consistent. And Williams needs to go back to his "natural" position. One- because like I said that was where he was drafted and two - because I can't stand Omiyale. But for the remainder of the year it looks as though Tice has it figured out. I would think most of what ills the line would be resolved in the offseason. And yes I would agree, as a whole, that the "arrow" is in fact pointing in the upward trajectory. Happy Holidays. -
Noots' Notes Game 14: 40-14 Win over Minnesota
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Noots's topic in Bearstalk
I think what Gruden was highlighting was the fact that the "team" was trying to help Webb build confidence by running behind him. Especially when Gruden made the comment they were within 5 (or so) yards of the end zone and what could have built the kid up more with a score off his protection? And yes I'll absolutely agree that running off the tackles, especially in this game, is where it worked best. Forte has always been a better runner offf the edge. The thing with the line that I noticed was that the interior seems to be worsening (or staying idle) while the edges are improving. With that i am sad to say that Kreutz' days are numbered. He has had way too many penalties this year for his experience level, a byproduct of a declining skill set. Garza? Not sure his deal. And Williams... He's just simply out of position. Needs to go back to the LT spot. -
Yeah with Wootton doing what he did there were two significant "record book" moments. Hester and Wootton. If Woootton does nothing else he will probably be immortalized for the play that finally retired Favre. Speaking of good Mad Lith how about that 16 step process of mine?

Tempting...but I think I'll wait until they make the "2010 NFC Champions - Bears" gear. Congrats to Coach Lovie, Rod and Mike(s) and the 2010 Bears!!! Onward and upward.

Sounds to me like he plans on running for his life a lot.

If I may... I still think it a tad bit sad that the players (Bears even) are whining about the conditions. So freakin' what? Like "Boston" originally pointed out, the old timers are rolling their eyes. Rightfully so. How many here were just saying a few weeks back how sad it was the league was limiting hits with consequences like fines and suspensions? Players like Briggs were saying how much they (league) were taking the "game" out of the game. It is getting more and more pathetic. This just ices it. The question about Cutler possibly getting hurt is crazy since he could just as easily get hurt (concussion) on a brand new field (Meadowlands) during the early part of the season (better weather) as he could playing on frozen field. I've always taken a personal pride in "my" Bears playing in an outdoor field (and GB to a degree) as opposed to those wooses up in Minny and Detroit with their nice climate controlled domes. NFC North???? Are you kidding me? As I've said before, tongue in cheek, is how I miss the leather helmet days.

That's why I was saying last week and I'll say it again: "that's why they play the game." "Any given Sunday"

I think what "Edward" is doing is trying to show that "Noots" was incorrect in his prediction that Shaffer was the correct choice as RT. That is, at least, what I drew from it. I could be wrong. Do yourself a favor "Edward" and post some narrative to explain your stance.

Noots' Notes Game 13: 36-7 Loss to New England
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Noots's topic in Bearstalk
Sorry. We're gonna have to agree to disagree. What was the score at half? 29-0 or 29-7? Whats to say that the Bears couldn't have put up 29 in the second half? The point is the team didn't quit. They collectively kept trying. I didn't see players stopping short or other indicators the game was "done by halftime". When was Pepper's sack? Where were the Bears when Cutler threw one of his ints? They were driving for a score. Players were playing, despite the odds. I can tell you firsthand that lying "prostrate" and fighting back ups your odds of winning rather than lying there and giving up. So again, we will have to disagree. The original point being countered was that whether the Bears would lose 10 out of 10 games against the Pats. Don't think they would. -
Noots' Notes Game 13: 36-7 Loss to New England
Alaskan Grizzly replied to Noots's topic in Bearstalk
Sorry Connor but as much as I "usually" agree with you I can't believe that 10 out of 10 times would be totally accurate. I would have to believe that perhaps 2 out of 10 or even 3 times these Bears could do it. The team is not as bad as a lot are making them out to be and a few here will believe, especially after a loss like this. We know that the "D" is running near the top right now. We know that Cutler is capable of being a very good QB. Yesterday he played pretty well, when he had the chance. Admittedly he made some Cutleresque mistakes but they were later more later in the game. The Pats played keep away for much of the first half and the "O" was not able to do a whole lot. As Noots pointed out and was evident in the game, the Bears were still "contending" in the 3rd quarter until Jay threw that Int into the endzone. Had he not? We'd be possibly talking a different tune. I predicted that the Bears would go 1-1 with the Pats and Jets games. I still feel that way although of the two I thought the BEars could beat the Pats. But at this point I think they will beat the Jets instead. The Jets are not as organized as this team and it will be more of a low scoring duke it out style of game. Exactly the type of game the Bears are built for. So going back to my original point I still think if this game is played 10 times, I don't actually believe they (Pats) would win all 10 times. -
So in that you mean to say that Eric Mangini is "good coach"? This is why they "play the game".
-
Thanks for the information. Sounds as though you are much the same as the rest with how things could pan out. Especially the note about the field. That, I think, will play one of the biggest factors in the game. And remember....Urlacher owes Brady a tackle. Pretty sure THAT won't happen again. At least Urlacher is a good sport about it.

Here's my "two cents": for what it's worth. First look at all the scores of all the games this year, wins AND losses. No blowouts, not even the ugliest loss at NYG. The only ones close were the wins against Mia and Car. That means the Bears are staying competitive, despite themselves in some cases. Remember last year and the debacles with Cinncinati and Baltimore? The team definitely did not look good in those games. Next, the field has been and will be a factor. Almost all the home games have shown the visitors slipping or other similar issues at key moments. That gives the edge to Chicago, especially this weekend with NE. And remember the hype at the beginning of the year about the chemistry (Martz / Cutler) and how formidable the schedule looked? And, I might add how many of you wanted for so many changes? Despite it all, the Bears are where they are. In a position to make the playoffs. Whodda thunk? I strongly think the Bears will split the NE and NYJ games with a 1-1. As far as Minn and GB go, I'll have to see how things go when we reach that point. A lot can happen between now and then.

"I had seen a interview with Urlacher in his basement and my friend described his basement to the tee[/i]." I hate to put on my Capt. Obvious suit but if I had "seen" an interview with Urlacher in his basement, I could probably tell you what it looked like too. Kinda like I could tell you what the studio looks like that Jon Stewart does the Daily Show from. All kidding aside, wish I were in Chicago for the upcoming game so that I could actually see my first Bears game live and attend your "tailgate". Sounds fun. Good luck all....

Was listening a little to the "Herd" this morning. And of course Trent Dilfer made an appearance. (Colin is a big fan). They got to discussing the Bears. First thing Colin said is he thought the Bears were a "fraud". Asked Dilfer what he thought. Dilfer's reply was basically that he didn't believe in them. He did make one note that I found ironic. He felt the only real way that the Bears could even hope to make it into and through the playoffs (let alone Super Bowl) were if the Defense began to play off the chart. He felt that it mostly fell into the hands of Cutler being consistent and thusly why the team could not maintain it's momentum. They reviewed the remainder of the Bears schedule and not only did Colin say he thought the Bears would go 0-4 he thought the Jets were going to "destroy" the Bears. And Dilfer thought at best 1-3. Which got me to thinking about Dilfer and his statement. I started to think about how he really isn't legit. I remember a few weeks ago when a few here were roasting over how Steve Young was burning the Bears and how ill received Young was for talking that way. No matter how wrong he might be, at least he can say he contributed to his SUper Bowl win and he is also in the Hall of Fame. What credibility does Dilfer have? He won a Super Bowl but only because of a dominant defense. How ironic. (Guess it takes "one to know one"). Beyond that he really never accomplished much. So I guess he falls into the category of another paid talking head that blows hot air? I know Colin is paid to antagonize people so that almost goes without saying. The one positive was that Dilfer did know that he was making enemies with the Bear Nation. He said that each time he flies back to California he purposefully avoids flying through O'Hare mostly because of concerns about his comments of the Bears. Must be nice to have such a high opinion of yourself that anyone would recognize you let alone care. In the meantime....keep up the great work Lovie and crew.

Absolutely and unequivocally NO.
