Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
Dude this type of 'talk' is way out of line for those of us on the BearsTalk line. ? (And no I haven't been drinking...yet)

Poles positive report card
To be clear, I'm not blindly supporting Fields and saying there is no other option for QB other than Bagent as his backup. Of that graphic I shared, I would consider myself in the '31% group'. I support the idea of drafting a QB just not as the 1st overall pick. 1) I think there's more value to trading the pick and fortifying the team with those picks. 2) according to the "experts" this draft has got a lot of decent QB's (maybe not all "generational"). But in the end, drafting another QB AND keeping Justin makes for a potential of competition and a lot of times competition brings out the best in people. Waldron theoretically was able to revive the career of Geno Smith, so what's to say he couldn't again with Justin? ?♂️ My concerns of drafting a QB at #1 are at about the same level as yours are with Justin staying for another year. As far as the Waldron replacing Flus scenario? I don't think it would matter either way. On paper Waldron seems to check the boxes (but then so did Trestman - remember how excited everyone was when he was hired?) But I digress... I'm not tied to Flus really. My theory why he stuck around was because Poles and/or Warren saw the progress he made with the defense after having to navigate some rough seas at the beginning of the season. And while doing so probably/maybe kept the respect of the locker room while doing so. We know Warren is on record with seeing coaches succeed in short order (and we saw it again with Campbell) and maybe....HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, he thought this is the course HE wanted to take with Flus? Anyhow, that discussion has been had. Going back to your question again, I don't think any combination of Flus staying or going would necessarily change my thoughts on Justin's return for 2024.

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
What your're saying cuts both ways. Those of us on the Fields train get it that others don't want him...just like those you seeking satisfaction elsewhere want to focus on who will be the next "great thing?" It feeds into the narrative of "BearsTalk" and what we're all here for. Personal feelings are better served elsewhere. I think it better we keep the conversation to the Bears, football, Chicago (in general) and/or types of whiskey. I find messaging people directly can sort out the other stuff. This coming from an 'instigator' of course. ?

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
There have been pro/con discussions about players' (teammates and past QBs) views of Fields. The question comes up how often do other players say something negative about another player and use their actual name? Most times they say nothing at all or are considered an "anonymous source". I think here was a comparison of that type of discussion. Almost tongue in cheek(?) Fair question in my mind.

Shane Waldron hired as the new Bears OC
Since we're dealing in hypotheticals, Waldron installed a few of his 'own guys' by bringing over Chad Morton (RB coach) and Kerry Joseph (QB coach). I would think that of the two, Joseph might be in line more for the OC position if either of what you suggest were to occur (Waldron becomes Bears HC or goes somewhere else). ?♂️

Shane Waldron hired as the new Bears OC
Probably a combination of both. As you said before the version of the Hackett/Getsy offense is more complicated for the rookie (younger QBs) aka Fields who was in year one of learning it last year. Love has not only had the benefit of watching Aaron Rodgers play but he also had three years to do it. Now the question will be, similar to how CJ Stroud came out of the gate hot, will Love also be able to maintain it? This I think is the key. For Love in GB and with Waldron for 'whomever' it ends up being in Chicago. Waldron, like LaFleur comes from a more reputable 'coaching tree' with the commonality being Kyle Shannahan - Sean McVay. Evidently from an article I read (link below) Waldron not only worked with McVay but when he started out he was in the NE system (up to TE coach) while Belichick was still there before moving to Washington where he joined McVay. When McVay left Waldron followed him to LA. From there we know about his moving to Seattle to work with Pete Carroll. Waldron seems to have more bonafides (at least on paper) and in some product with the rebirth of Geno Smith. https://beargoggleson.com/posts/shane-waldron-checks-all-the-important-boxes-for-chicago-bears/3

And if Poles decides, after assessing the draft talent, to stick with Justin for at least one more year? ?

And maybe the fans too. ?♂️(Source CorStrategies Jan 17, 2024): Roughly tracks what I've been seeing on social media.

Senior Bowl Prospects...
The new asst oline coach who came by way of the Titans may help too.

Nathanial Hackett was another indicator of that. Failed in Denver after one year and is struggling in NJ without Rodgers playing.

Was thinking the oddity of these highly touted OCs not taking HC gigs elsewhere and how Bill Belichick is still sitting out there unemployed. Meanwhile, as Stinger reported earlier, it appears we’ll get at least one more year with Ian Cunningham. Which to me is a good thing. He and Poles have been spotted heavily scouting the Senior Bowl together.

That answers that.... I never looked good in a cardigan anyhow.

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
Some may call me an antagonist, I will call you delirious! ? Maye has played in the system that Mack Brown built. Brown also produced QBs like Vince Young, Colt McCoy, Major Applewhite, Chris Simms and RB Cedric Benson while he was HC for Texas. In the three (?) years Maye has been with the Tarheels in the powerhouse ACC, he's only eclipsed Trubisky in passing yardage his second year (2022 -4,321) to Trubisky's last year (2016-3,748). Otherwise last season Maye produced 3,608 passing yards and only played 12 games(?) versus 14 the previous year. Outisde of that, Maye has more total rush yards than does Trubisky (1,209 to Mitch's 439). But then, I thought we were trying to avoid a running QB? I've said it once...he wears #10 and is clad in the same powder blue as the former Mr. Ohio. I feel like we're re-enacting a Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discussion. ?

I would normally agree but whenever I hear offensive minded coaches in Bears recent history I can't help but cringe as Nagy and Trestman first come to mind. Maybe we go the Baltimore route next time and hire an HC with a ST background like Dave Toub? ?♂️

I am at about the same but not at #1. Signed...the "antagonist". ?

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
I'd be great with that. And/or in the second (as Stinger suggests). Get your "haul" for the #1 overall maybe even move back before #9 and get MHJ someway...somehow. The more I hear "experts" talk the more convinced I am that MHJ is probably the only real "generational" talent in this draft.

Another couple sources. 1) Author Cam Mellor on CFN (dated 23 November 23) has Bo Nix as #1 and Williams #4 overall. From what I read in his article Cam appears to do more 'eye testing' than mega stat gathering. https://collegefootballnetwork.com/top-college-football-quarterback-rankings-2023/ 2) From SportsNaught author Andrew Buller-Russ (dated 02 December) has Daniels #1, Nix #2 and Williams #3. Maye is #6 on this list. https://sportsnaut.com/top-college-football-quarterbacks/ 3) Lastly, this article from Nick Shultz (dated 23 Dec 23) lists Williams as #1, Maye #2 and Nix at #6 but adds "He (Nix) was the most accurate passer in the country during the regular season..." and "Nix completed an FBS-leading 77.2% of his passes during the regular season..." https://www.on3.com/pro/news/2024-nfl-draft-espn-ranks-top-12-college-football-qbs-quarterback-caleb-williams-drake-maye-jayden-daniels/ Goes to show you how many different opinions you can get as we head deep into draft season.

From Wikipedia: "USC defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, who recruited Darnold to the school, wanted him to play linebacker before he declined."

Which Rookie QB should we draft to replace Fields?
I checked out the post and saw that our old pal Swifty posted his own chart (below). I also asked “Joe” if he’s done these for past QB draft classes. I’d like to see that.

I didn’t remember so I had to look it up. Did you know he was recruited by one of the defensive coaches to play linebacker?

Saw this on Facebook with the commentary: ‘Of the 13 QBs chosen in the 2018 draft, Sam Darnold will be the first to go to the Super Bowl.’ Crazy.

I think he’s more Madden like in that he’s not so much the strategist than he is the old school smash mouth style of football guy (which I’m a huge fan of). How many times did we hear Greg Olsen comment on how it was assumed that every time the Lions were short and 4th down Campbell was the guy that would go for it? He’s been doing that for how long? And because he stuck to that “script” and believed he could do it again, he’s now all of sudden being questioned for it. It’s a live by the sword die by it mentality. If he’d been successful and ended up eventually winning, we’d be having a different conversation. Going back to the exchange I had with Adam about levels of experience. When you have a handful of guys who have 7 playoff games among them versus another handful of guys that have 10 times as many, experience will mostly win in those situations. I’d be surprised if Campbell continues making those calls as predictable going forward.
