  1. A couple of years ago i would have loved to have Sean Payton, this year doesnt say much for his legacy. Hopefully Poles and Warren figure out the best Coach to bring in. Does anyone think Flus would be fired and have the character to accept the DC job here? I think he is good at that.
  2. The trend is he will be gone but he can change that trend if he balls out the rest of the way.(highly doubtful) He does have some talent, his 2 good games this year looked promising but he has to continue that. The potential of taking a good QB and since we will win some games it has to be Panthers playing bad. That is out of our control. I believe some of his bad can be contributed to bad play calling and a hurt OL. A great QB should overcome that. What if he's just okay? Lot of just okay QBs in the NFL. Cousins, Goff, Prescott, Carr, Geno Smith, and Stafford. Some of them have won in spite of their talent. I think Poles will evaluate the situation and make the right decision.
  3. Im all in if there was a Andrew Luck clone in the draft but that has not proven to be the case yet. Some experts calling (Williams or Maye) being generational QBs doesnt mean its true. When Mahomes came out, I dont remember any experts calling him generational. He got drafted by a good coach with a good team and sat for a year to learn. He became a great QB. If he was drafted by the Bears at the time, he would never be as good as he is right now. Lots of things have to be in place for a QB to achieve greatness but it also includes good coaching and development. I dont think the right coach is here yet. I think maybe Poles creating magic by trading our high pick and building the team first then maybe drafting a JJ MaCarthy and develop him for a yr. i think lots of choices on the table and maybe sticking with Fields with Bagent backing him up may be the best choice but that still remains to be seen. Adding MHJ, a LT, Bowers, Verse or Turner may be better for our future. By the end of the year the picture may be more clear.
  4. I've been a Bears fan since the late 1960s. Pretty well been losers except some Ditka yrs and when Lovie was here. I dont care who is leading the team , its about winning. The Fields debate is very simple, he has the rest of the year to prove himself or be gone. Im going to root for him as long as he is here. He has bad tape and some good tape , hopefully he gets better. Poles doesnt owe him anything, play well or he will replace him and I am good with that. I see what you see but think he can improve. Why write him off when he isnt gone yet. It only benefits the team if he does well.

I still think the main purpose of this year is to see if Fields is the guy. I don't think that evaluation is done yet with 10 games to play. He will get the bulk of games to show us what he can be. What we do know is we have a good backup. So if we move on from Justin your idea of letting having him run the show as a rookie learns. I could accept that for a year knowing we are building a good team around a QB. If he wins the QB job in that time so be it.
  6. This is what building a team looks like, it gets better the longer it goes. We have the pothole of lots of injuries that has slowed the process. I guess we are lucky we havent had full season injuries but maybe Braxton Jones is that case . I hope not, a good Oline is the key to us having a consistent offense. When we do win , people say it was a bad team. We actually have a lot of bad teams on our schedule. Chargers looked like a hill to big to climb before the season started, they are 2-4. Saints are 3-4, Panthers havent won a game yet , then we play the lions, they just lost 38-6 to a team with a running QB. We are not a good team yet so we will lose as many games as we win but we are going to win some more games. Sadly that MIGHT save our head coach. What is the win total that will save his job? 5 more?

Yes but the team is already built much easier to succeed.
  8. Finding competent QBs is so hard to do . High picks have a higher % of hits but also a higher bust rate. Jalen Hurts was a second round pick. Just saying to build the team first and put a QB in a better situation.

I agree with that, always throwing rookies to the wolves may not be the best way to do it. Because they were drafted high, doesnt mean they are ready for prime time./ With someone like Burrows it worked except now he is beat up because they didnt build the Oline first. No matter who is playing QB build the team first then get your QB. Its rarely a quick fix.
  10. Washington has to decide who they are going to sign Young or Sweat. No way they sign both, their free agents next year. We don't need to trade anything. That would be close to 400 mil invested in their DL with the need for a QB.

Maybe he can become an Alex Smith type of QB but I doubt you ever win because of him . Build a good team and play to his strengths, then you can win some games. He's just not ever going to be an Aaron Rodgers or Joe Burrows. It's nice to have a competitive # 2.
  12. Fields has some bad traits and we will probably have a new QB next year but I would like to see them have the same kind of game plan for him. Our strength is our running game and we are starting to play defense. Quit trying to make him something he's not. I guarantee you if he was in Baltimore, he would look different because Harbaugh does the offense to fit a players strength, not try to make him Aaron Rodgers. Lamar Jackson is similar to Justin but Justin can throw a better deep ball than him. He may never be a top 10 QB but he definitely can be used better than he has been with Getsy. Roll the pocket, RPOs, and play action. It's not 4 level chess.
  13. Actually with a couple of plays outcome different we could be talking about winning 4 in a row. I think the tank narrative will be on hold for awhile.
  14. Just seen this posted on X,. I could buy into that. Hear me out MHJ, DJ Moore, Mooney/Tyler Scott Brock Bowers & Kmet Braxton-Davis-Van Pran-Jenkins-Wright RoJo, Herbert, Rookie RB Fields & Bagent Then on defense Chase Young -Dexter -Pickens -Ngakue Sanborn, Edwards, Edmunds JJ, ‘Rique/Terell Smith, KG6 Brisker, Micah Hyde
  15. We could easily be talking about winning 3 games in a row right now. A couple of plays back in the Denver game and it could be 4 in a row. We are getting better. The Fields injury could be a blessing in disguise. Not only are we seeing a competent backup but Justin was watching this game to. Coaches can tell you all day to get the ball out quicker but he got to watch how successful that can be. Fields is going to play better going forward. He is a very intelligent QB , he just learned something today. Injured players are starting to come back. Flus may not be a good head coach but the defense has been much better since he started calling the defensive plays. I've been doing mock drafts and dreaming of the top 2 picks. That may be a little pre mature.
  16. I think they are just not asking to much from Bagent, if Peterman gets hammered if doesnt affect everything. Just put him in positive situations helps.
  17. The only reason we can play like this because we are playing defense. Good play calling helps and the fact we can run the ball.
  18. We are starting to jell as a defense and having a game manager at QB with a good running game will get us some wins along the way.
  19. I agree with everything you said. His first year he offered Brian Allen a higher contract than the Rams paid him, but he choose the SB champs. His second choice was Patrick that has been laden with injuries, plus hasn't played well. He signed Davis for IOL but brought some baggage with him and now is injured. He's made attempts to fix the IOL but so far it hasn't worked out. Jenkins has had injury concerns but I think the development of Carter prevented him from bringing in another prospect there. Thinking Whitehair, Patrick and drafting Kramer ( who has been injured) hasn't worked out. I can't say he hasn't tried. He did trade for Feeney but he's been injured also. You can't figure injuries in to any plan you have and it's been about as bad as it can get with the OL. If he had a healthy Jones -Jenkins-Witehair/Patrick/Kramer-Davis- Wright, that was a good plan. I
  20. what I see as our biggest needs going into 2024 is keep building the OL and DL. The QB situation will work itself out. We will have 2 high picks this year and because I think he trades one or both , mullite picks in 2025. People say there are generational QBs in this draft, maybe. I remember when Mahomes was drafted, almost no one rated him # 1 let alone a generational QB. QBs are a shot in the dark , rarely do they judge them right. Just imagine if we ended up trading both draft picks and ended up with Harrison, Bowers, Fashanu, Alt, Verse or Turner. Or any combinations of them, a QB prospect plus multi 1 st round picks in the future. Hurts was a 2nd round pick, Jackson was the last pick of the first round in 2018, not all of the good QBs are taken at the top of the draft. Lets let the QB situation play out, what do we need in FAgency or the draft. Edge rusher, LT (if Jones stays injured), FS ( expect Jackson to be cut), more depth on OL, new OC ( I expect Whitehair to get cut)). More DL prospects.
  21. The reason I think Poles is safe is because when he came here, he said he wanted to build thru the draft and not over pay for FAs. We cant see the benefits to that in a year and a half. In two years his only expensive FA sighing has been Edmunds, otherwise they are all reasonable contracts on short team deals. history shows that overpaying for FAs is a bad idea. Very few of them has worked out. He brought in Cunningham to help do his job. They both come from winning organizations. I only see two big mistakes so far, the Claypool ordeal and drafting V Jones. As a new GM they arent going to be right with everything. Plus he has shown the ability to move on from mistakes. So far he has manipulated the draft in his favor and I think his drafting has been above average. The biggest reason to keep him is because he turned a bad cap situation into a strength. Also if we have 2 first pick in the draft two years in a row, that could reap huge dividends. Of course it means we have lost a lot but since I have been a Bears fan (60s) I have never seen a complete rebuild and this is what it looks like. If a bad 2 years turns us in to a consistent winner, Im willing to see if that works. Year 3 will be the year to see what he is building.
  22. The only articles I could find in a possible Bears- Wilson trade was on BGO on March 8th 2021. Reddit on March 17th 2021, about trying to trade 3 first round picks for Wilson. Poles didn't get hired until January 25th , 2022. The end of this year will determine who is our best option for QB and who is the best college QB. Hard to judge at this time. Maye is the ideal pocket passer, where Williams is more of a wildcard similar to how Mahones was projected when he was drafted. Penix has some fans also. Then there's the options of Fields or Bagent? Depends how the rest of the year plays out.
