I've been looking at RBs lately. Did we want the speed guy or power back in short yardage situations? I think Swift is our flash guy and Johnson a dependable backup, but more power on short yardage would help us in the red zone. This is a deep class and can get a good player with our mid round pick. Rahiem Sanders is 6'1"230 with 4.4 speed. Projected 5th round by Draft Buzz, he could fit that role. Lots of choices in mid rounds. Ian Cunningham comp pick would be a perfect spot.

He definitely has a resume and would not be a bad choice but prefer Johnson at this point. Why did 2 teams let him go? I think he's not winning the big games his is downfall. How long ago was he in the SB? 2011 ? That was a long time ago.

All those wins aren't flukes but the playoffs are a different breed. The cream rises to the top. Do not overlook LA.

Yes a lot had to do with play calling. Kmet should have had 30 more catches this year.

Other news: Ian Cunningham moving on to 2nd round with Titans

Yes, I would say RB or WR, always some talent still in play at pick 100. I think BPA is always in play at each spot. Appears to be more DL available at 10 unless we move back. Reaching with blue chip players on the board doesn't always play well . The second round will have OL available. Our first 4 picks should be trenches but if a WR, RB, or S with quality there, it should be considered. Lots of guards in top 72 to choose from, it's about value of the spot. -

I heard, one this year and one next year. It's a third round comp pick , so pick will be around pick 100. Anything helps. A good spot for a RB or OC. -
Interesting Article and Stats DT Carter vs Dexter
Stinger226 replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
Carter was put with a good DL, that demands attention for everyone, giving him more opportunities to have big plays. They had a ton of good edge players. Dexter will play better as the line is upgraded. -
Your opinions may well be true but why do teams keep moving on n from him? GB and now Dallas, I think he wins but doesn't get you to the big dance. I want someone not at the end of his career, I want someone that grows with Caleb and stays Caleb's full career. I don't see McCarthy coaching for 10 more years. Is he an upgrade, of course.
-
My biggest concern was in heavy pressure situations why isn't the outlet pass thrown. I see it all the time from other QBs. Caleb needed to recognize pressure and dump it or throw it away. It probably was 10-20 % of sacks alone.
-
You may have a different set of stats that you refer to. I don't know how accurate some sites are over others but using my eyes as a judge, a large amount of sacks were created by the QB decisions. Whether its 10%<20%<30% it's still player related. Not trying to shift some of blame from a bad line that's oblivious. We need the line upgraded and improvement by our QB, I think some blame goes to bad play calling also. If you have max blitze you need to adjust plays to fit the defense, bad at that too.

Daniels was clearly the best rookie QB this year. Doesn't show very many flaws. Ultimately we will judge QBs on wins and losses. Nobody considered Brady great until he started winning SBs. Caleb needs to correct some things but we have seen enough to project great things but he has to show a lot of progress in year 2 to catch up to Daniels. Fields isn't here anymore because he didn't progress enough last year.

After the NE job is taken, I believe we are next best option. But they need a backup plan just in case. Only 4 jobs out there left.
-
True but last year the top get was Harbaugh no matter who else's name popped up. I think Johnson is coming unless he decides not to. I like some other names but in questioning Johnson's culture, he was with Campbell for 3 years, I believed he learned from Campbell.

I think a lot of voting has to do with the crede the players have already established more than team record but for new players getting better, you are more noticeable on good teams. Because of the overall doom and gloom of this year we just assume Dexter didn't get better but I think his breakout season is next year and was better this year. He works hard to get better and it will keep raising his play. Also Billings going out and nagging injuries to Sweat, it affected his performance. Once we add Jack Sawyer/ DE and Deonte Walker/DT our DL will be much better. -
Like you said Halas Hall never leaks information under Poles. Journalists keep trying to tell you they know what happens in the war room, I don't believe it for a minute. The info probably came from Johnson's agent. It's a good bargaining tool for any job to say everything went well. 4 teams left for a coach. Yes we have dysfunction with the owners but so does Jets, raiders. NO is in cap hell that will take a few years to change. That leaves us and Jax. I'm sure Johnson would make Lawrence better, but the rest of the offense isn't impressive They have Thomas Jr, we have Odunze and DJ. They have Tank Bigsby, and Travis E- we have Swift and Johnson plus I believe they bring in a rookie RB. They have Engram and we have Kmet who can both block and catch, Evans doesn't block. Both lines haven't been good but we have the assets to change that. We have 3 too 41 picks , they have pick 5 and 36. The final PFF ranking has us ranked 17th and Jax 21st with the OL. They claim 31 sacks were attributed to Caleb holding the ball to long and not making decisions quick enough. I agree with that. We have 83 mil in cap, Jax is at 35 mil. It will come down to who Johnson thinks is the better QB. Lawrence has a 206 mil contract already in place so if he's not the guy, Jax is a bad investment. Also Poles seems like a more likable guy than Trent Balkke. It may matter.

With Vrabel gone, it's Johnson, Joe Brady - Monkin. I'm leary of Carroll.
-
I haven't seen a story about Tomlin, did he get fired?
-
The only way Johnson is not coming here is money, like you said I hope they don't screw that up.
-
To be honest, I don't think either will be there at 10 which may drop Graham or Carter down. Hopefully dropping back and getting an extra top 50 pick works out. 4 top 50 plus 72 gives us 5 future starters. 3 on OL and 2 on DL.

Hard sell at Stanford for recruiting. Harbaugh is much better at it. Shaw just couldn't recruit there, it doesn't make him a bad coach.
-
People bring up Brady like he's majority owner. All he is is a PR guy for the team. Johnson will listen but they don't have as good a roster as ours and no QB prospect. We definitely are lead team now. Jax, NO, Jets, not happening.
-
There's no fast track if we want Johnson until he loses a game. Probably SB
-
Just seen a story where it was reported the bears want to interview Marcus Freeman. That's all bullshi. He just signed a 34 mil extension on his contract. These people just say anything and think bear fans will believe it.

I listen to one of those former QBs that analyzes NFL QBs and he said that footwork needs work and has messed with his accuracy. I'll try to find the video. He made a lot of sense. Statically Caleb's work was pretty good for a rookie but he has a ways to go before he's a top 10 QB let alone a top 5 . One habit that I saw was not throwing the ball away when there was no other option. One website that analyzes sacks said 1/3 of the sacks were on him . Get extending plays but when a blitzer was unblocked, you lose most the time.

I have read quite a bit about David Shaw that was the Stanford coach at one time. He is an interesting candidate. He is a Dan Campbell type. Lots of NFL coaching experience. Supposed leader of men. I'll try to find the article and share it.
