So in my daily fact gathering of all that is Bears I found an intriguing story in Bleacher Report. In it they discuss a bargain FA acquisition for each team. For the Bears they chose Nick Fairley (currently of the Rams). Although he hasn't done much lately perhaps in Fangios scheme he'd do better? And why not spell Goldman from time to time? The Bears have formally submitted a contract offer to free agent OT John St. Clair. The proposal is for three years and probably about $5-6 million annually. Looking at the draft, it is quite possible that when we pick, the #2 RB (whether that be Mendenhall or Stewart) will still be on the board. Three teams in the four picks after ours (Det, Az and Houston) all could be looking to upgrade their run game, which means if a team wants one of these two RBs, they may need to move up to our pick, in front of those other teams. Heck, if one of those teams really likes one RB over the other, they may even be looking to move up a couple slots, like if AZ loved Mendy, and felt Det would take him. These come out about once every three seasons but after this game I think I want to vent/evaluate where I see the team. First: Brian Urlacher. There is a lot of hate for him and a lot of people thinking he isnt needed or we can do with out him. IMO, he is the best linebacker in the cover 2/Tampa 2 in the game and possibly ever (for the current scheme we run). He isnt replaceable and I think people overlook what he does in pass defense in the middle of the field. When he is done, our Tampa 2 is done, Lovie is done and we are starting over. I think the Bears front office needs to look long and hard at yesterday's film and think about next year. Sure, injuries killed the Bears, but the players in the game were pretty bad. That got me to thinking about a fix... What players could be traded, and what would the Bears get in return? I'd love to see multiple trades to stock up on draft picks so the Bears can try to get a playmaking DE and Safety in this year's draft. Does anyone have a good idea about who could be traded and what the Bears could get? Realistically?

We are now over halfway through the first Poles season. For the most part, this is what was expected, especially after the trading deadline changes (Quinn, Smith). I know he was always going to get a free pass for the first couple of years, but how many free agent hits and draft hits does he have today? How many of those players are starters next year? If you brought in a league average free agent at a position, which Poles acquisition is starting over them? Brisker is the only one I can think of at this point. Here is a list of QBs selected in the top 10 since 2010 (19). Outside of Newton, Luck, Mahomes, and maybe Wentz, do any of these other guys strike you as 15-year franchise QBs? I know you can say the same about any position or pick in the top 10, but with all the scouting and analysis, it would seem like the QB position would be one of the easier ones to assess properly. 1.
