http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=245 The Bears * Mike Florio of The Sporting News rates the ten worse moves and non-moves of the NFL offseason. Who's number 1? The Bears, failing to do anything at QB, something that Florio attributes to the arrogance of Jerry Angelo. “Chicago Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo reminds us of the guy at the end of Animal House who was saying, "All is well," while all heck was breaking loose at the parade that Bluto and company crashed.” As anyone who regularly reads this space knows, I whole heartedly agree. * Josh Alper at profootballtalk.com chimes in on the Brian Urlacher contract situat…

I think he'll be released or traded...Cleveland is deep at OL and hes become expendable. Hes slated as a center, but could easily switch to G. Hes been on the DL because of (I think) a staph infection and post infection problems. Id love to get him if hes released or trade a late pick for him. Pretty much, there is no downside and hed be a great addition.

http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp...5/0515earl.html Earl to Cedric: "Take responsibility" Campbell says Benson needs to be careful of the situations in which he puts himself By Randy Riggs AMERICAN STATESMAN STAFF Thursday, May 15, 2008 Former Longhorns running back Cedric Benson says he's innocent. But University of Texas legend Earl Campbell says Benson shouldn't put himself in a situation that might require him to claim his innocence. Benson was arrested May 3 on Lake Travis and charged with boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He and others have disputed the police version of the incident, but Campbell said Wednesd…

Would things have played out differently if Ricky Williams had been on Cedric Benson's boat earlier this month? The Dolphins running back thinks so, and according to Williams, he was invited to go on board. Williams told the Austin American-Statesman for Thursday's editions that he declined an invitation from Benson to spend a Saturday on Benson's boat in Lake Travis, Texas. On May 3, Benson was charged with boating while intoxicated after failing a sobriety test and resisting arrest in an alleged struggle that required officers to use pepper spray before dragging him ashore. Williams told the American-Statesman that things would have played out differently…

Friday, May 16, 2008 Points of View, May 16, 2008 http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=246 The Bears * Rex Grossman spoke briefly to the Chicago Tribune yesterday. Among other things he expressed gratitude toward the Bears for giving him another opportunity with a one-year deal. Grossman evidently doesn't understand that he's going to get as many chances as he needs until he either succeeds for at least one year and gets a long-term contract or GM Jerry Angelo, who took him in the first round, gets himself fired. Dick Jauron was less loyal to John Shoop. * Lovie Smith answered questions from fans on chicagobears.co…

They talk about other positions like SS and TE/FB but this one applied to the Bears better. They did use AA as an example for SS but as you can imagine it wasnt saying he is a good fit for the new types of safeties. Sounds to me like theyre saying Singeltary and Butkus cant do what Urlacher can and would be situational players in this era (Dont blame me, I just post the articles)

http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=248 There is an old saying which everyone knows. It goes, “Curiosity killed the cat.” But there are times when I wonder if we football fans take this saying too far. This was never more evident to me than when I heard other Bear fans comment on the ”Spygate” situation in New England. This seems to me to be a rich, multifaceted story that many fans should be interested in. But I often find that instead, quite a number of those I've talked to would rather see it die a quiet death, never to rear its head again. The only thing I can figure is that many fans treat the NFL as a league as they do their own teams. Bear fans a…

Points of View, May 18, 2008 May 18th, 2008 Tom Shannon Posted in Points of View | No Comments » Edit | The Bears * Lovie Smith answers more questions: If Devin Hester played for another team, would you kick the ball to him? Fabian C. Gilroy, California If I was a coach from the opposing team, yeah, I would kick to him. You can’t let one guy take you out of your game plan. I’d have a hard time going in and telling my team, “Hey, this guy is so good we’re not going to kick to him,” so yeah, I would. Of course, it’s easy for me to say that. Translation: “Other coaches have no guts. They back away and let one man beat them …

We have talent....just enough to win a few games and make it back into the playoffs again. But the main thing I see wrong with this team is the coaching. Now the defense is ok and will do just what they do if we stay healthy, and with Brown/Dvoraecek/Payne back and with the additions of Harrison,Steltz,Bowman,Toeaina and a few others, but the offense is another story. The way I see it if it we up to me i would make alot of moves that will really work the Bears offense into one of the tops in the NFL. 1. First thing first I would throw out that old playbook and start fresh with a new one. 2. I would use the pl;ayers one the roster to crate mismatches that work for o…

http://chicagobearsfanforum.com/blog/?p=250 The Bears * Brad Biggs at the Chicago Sun-Times blogs that Cedric Benson isn't at OTAs even though his court date, which was to be the first day, has been rescheduled. I'm sure Benson will have (another) good excuse. * Not surprisingly, Brain Urlacher was also missing as he cuddles some more with his fiance in Arizona. [head shake] Chicks. Elsewhere * The Bengals' Odell Thurman has been released by the Bengals. This wouldn't be news except for the implication that Thurman was released because he missed organized team activities at least partly due to the death of…

From the Sun Times: http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2008/05/or...of_firstte.html Interesting, but maybe the coaches were just trying to defuse the talk that they were determined to give Grossman the job. Discuss.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...SPT-bear20.stng Bears get injury protection from Mike Brown deal Injury history cuts safety's '08 base salary to $950K May 20, 2008 BY BRAD BIGGS bbiggs@suntimes.com It's debatable whether the Bears have protection on the roster in the event veteran safety Mike Brown is injured again. There is no question, however, that the team has some protection in terms of finances after reworking Brown's contract. Brown has missed 43 regular-season games over the last four seasons -- including 15 last year after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the opener at San Diego -- and will hav…

In terms of setting the market for draft picks...well, this adds one more reason why the Bears don't want the #3 pick next year. It might well cost more than the #1 pick.

Think someone mentionned Barber here in a thread a couple days ago as an option. He won't be htiting the market any more.
