  4. Chris Simms is signing with Denver, as per PFT. He wouldn't have been great, but I liked the idea of having him as a back-up, and I really don't think we'll spend the money for Leftwich. Khalif Barnes is meeting with Oakland. He's the last tackle available who'd be an upgrade over St. Clair. (At least he's still in the mix . . . ) Jermaine Phillips, the top safety available, is meeting with the Chargers & Seahawks. I just view back-up QB, safety, WR, and o-line as MAJOR problems we need to address in the draft AND free agency. We're so damn thin we need two of each position. My optimism is fading fast.

Cheese Monday, May 5, 2014 12:08 amWritten by: ThePostGame Staff 764 153 16 It was fitting that, during a recent trip to Chuck E. Cheese, Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long scored in the "Pro Bowl" range of a game in which you toss footballs into small holes. After all, the 25-year-old Long, who was the Bears' 2013 first-round pick, earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in his first season in the league. But Long wasn't at Chuck E. Cheese to confirm his football fitness. No, he had a much better reason to hit up the arc…

Bears | Close to a contract with Gilbert Comment (0) Thu, 04 Jun 2009 19:31:10 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears are close to a contract with DT Jarron Gilbert. Gilbert's agent, Frank Bauer, visited practice Wednesday, June 3, and spent must of the time talking with general manager Jerry Angelo and college scouting director Greg Gabriel. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | No concern Forte's injury is serious Comment (0) Thu, 04 Jun 2009 19:30:55 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (hamstring) could…

A somewhat interesting nugget came out about Moses. It sounds like he was asked to play LT and wanted to stay at RT, so he signed with the Jets. Several interesting takes. LT's make a lot more than RT's, so I wonder if it was for the same amount, so he didn't want to switch without a raise? Was he depth at LT and wanted to start? My assumption is Jenkins at LT and Ifedi at RT with Borom backing him up. So LT makes sense if you were bringing him in as insurance and depth. I don't how much the Bears could gauge on the progress of Jenkins without pads and basically 3 weeks of walk-throughs.

As friend to the players? As the Great Enabler? Does he want his professional tombstone to read: He got off the bus refusing to throw anybody under the bus? If Smith doesn't do something about it soon, a combination of bad football and a culture of unaccountability is going to be his undoing as the Bears' coach. Forget the bad apples he used to support at every turn and at every pretrial hearing. This isn't about that. This is about the most unpardonable …

NBCSports.com's Tom Curran has confirmed that Randy Moss has agreed to a three-year, $27 million to remain a Patriot. It's uncertain if Moss' efforts to get other teams involved helped, but he's only making $1.33 million-per-year more than Bernard Berrian. His guaranteed money was increased.

Citing two NFL sources, AOL Sports' Sean Jensen reports Randy Moss is expected to sign a "multi-year deal" to stay in New England. Jensen writes from Minnesota, so he probably has close ties to Moss or his agent. Jensen believes the contract is expected to be for three years and $30 million with $12-15 million guaranteed. A lot of news that comes out at this time of year is misdirection, but this makes sense. Jensen adds that impending free agent Lance Briggs is slated to sign with San Francisco.

I mean, sure, we all want to see how Cutler looks. Let's be honest. But there are other things in the balance too. Things that somewhat hang off of Cutler's presence and others that just plain need to be answered after last year. You can't tell much from the first preseason game but there are things we can watch for, even in this exhibition game. Here's my list: 1.) Is Hester a real WR? I've always said he won't make it as a WR because he just didn't have the smarts. But that was always with the expectation that the Bears would never have a Probowl QB on their roster. Does the addition of Cutler make Hester into something I never believed he could be? …
