I feel like Adams post is about to get hijacked with talks of all the cap room we have in 2023 so I thought I'd branch off a bit and create that conversation here. They have A TON of money and there are a lot of names out there right now. Most if not all will get franchised, but for shits and giggles how would you spend 135M in cap space? The 135 number assumes Quinn is gone. First on offense. We already have Fields, Mooney, Jones, Kmet, Whitehair, Patrick, and Jenkins returning. All those guys are gonna be starters in 2023 IMO. Then you also have Herbert and Abner under contract as well and I believe one of those guys could emerge and be a starter as w…

Justin has been working on an improved more compact throwing motion this offseason. It appears here that Getsy is pushing him to get rid of the little hop he takes before he throws.

We're some 40 hours free of the end of the draft and a lot of thoughts have been kicking around my head about these guys. Probably yours too. So let's get them out there. With apologies to Peter King, here's some things I think I think: 2a. Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington - The one pick I got right in my mock, and I wasn't at all sure about it because it heard that CB is not a priority in the Flus defense. Still, I always saw #2 CB as the biggest weakness on this team as a whole - I don't trust Graham (yet), Vildor is still not ready, and the rest of the guys are slot guys. We desperately needed another legit CB with Jaylon, especially with all the WRs the Vikings …

There has been an essay by Tarik Cohen published. It had to be one of the most difficult stories I have ever read. The personal tragedies that Tarik has experienced are so extreme it's amazing he was able to survive. To resist the temptation to commit suicide. A link to the full essay is below. I know Tarik is no longer with the Bears, but I always liked the guy. Was sorry to see him released, even though I could understand why he had to be let go. I hope everyone takes a few minutes and reads his self portrait. Letter to My Younger Self - by Tarik Cohen

Interesting article, just using age as a comparison of other WRs that had their breakout year at 23 or later. https://beargoggleson.com/2022/05/06/velus-jones-chicago-bears/ The top 2 WRs on the list are Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson. That's basically it. That is out of 37 WRs in that same group. I understand their point, that an older player is more fully developed, so they have an easier time against 19 and 20 year olds that are still developing. The Bears passed on Abraham Lucas, OT, Christian Harris, LB, Travis Jones, DT, Bernard Raimann, OT, Jalen Tolbert, WR, Dylan Parham, OG, and David Bell, WR. I really hope he works out and pro…

* CAUTION - LONG * So the latest trend with Fields after the draft is that he has the worst supporting cast in the NFL. I get that the Bears didn't draft a WR in the 2nd but would drafting Pickens, Pierce, or Moore in the 2nd instead of Jones in the 3rd really change anything? I highly doubt it. Going into this season, the Bears already have 4x players who had over 50 targets from last season (Mooney, Kmet, Pringle, and Montgomery). Why does that matter? Well I am glad you asked. I looked back at two recent 2nd-year QBs that made significant leaps in the 2nd seasons, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. I am not saying Fields is going to win MVP like Jackson did, but c…

This is long but he goes over the various type of running plays the Packers ran and Getsy is almost certainly going to follow. It seems clear St Brown was brought here moreso as a run blocker than pass receiver. That's not necessarily bad as long as he can contribute some as a WR. You'll also get to see some of the limitations Lucas Patrick has but those should be less impactful at C. There is a similar video breakdown for the passing game I have yet to watch but will post here in this thread.

A couple articles just kinda hit me here. In this first article it talks about how big the play action game is in a wide zone system. Last year the Bears ran the 2nd fewest play actions. Soooo it got me thinking, how was Fields running the play action in college? Turns out he was one of best.... https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/film-study/2020/06/114445/film-study-from-bootlegs-to-shots-downfield-justin-fields-was-one-of-the-nations-best-play-action?amp Encouraging sign for his transition into the new offense. Also perhaps another point for the Nagy didn't properly use Fields argument.

See that “Sack Man” Dent stopped by for a visit. Wonder if he and Quinn compared notes? Also saw that Tillman was in the house last week. Always good to see the alumni stop by for a visit.

So some dude on Bleacher Report writes (use the term loosely) on the 6 teams he is betting on to not hit their win total and that are overrated. He thinks the Bears will not hit 6.5 wins, which may be true but he clearly doesn't know who is on this team or their schedule. So Mooney, Kmet, or Johnson are not established starters apparently. Stopgap?

Ugh, I felt like Horsted had a lot of potential but wasn't given a fair shot. He always flashed when he got on the field. He ends his Bears career with more TDs than Kmet. It looks like Horsted failed his physical, that's interesting. I didn't know he was hurt. Rysen John was on the Giants and has never played in an NFL game yet, he is 24.

He has some good insights into our offseason with the new coaches, strength and conditioning program, Oline, and the WRs. Most of that is in the first half of the interview and the second half goes further back to his days with Angelo.

Sorry, I know this is not "Bears" related. Watching reruns on NFL Network today, a question came to mind that I'm sure one of you guys could answer for me. Are there any black place kickers or punters in the NFL? I cannot think of any.

Lots of UDFAs/try out players coming in. Not super excited by most of these at first glance, though I could see Sanborn sticking at LB. https://www.windycitygridiron.com/2022/4/30/23044142/chicago-bears-2022-udfa-news-rumor-tracker-ryan-poles-matt-eberflus-undrafted-free-agent-nfl-draft

I think this is worth watching. A couple highlights: 1) He is the anti-Nagy: "This is our offense it's not my offense". He is incorporating things from everyone on the coaching staff. 2) On EqStBrown: He matured a lot last year, and he's glad we were able to sign him and expects him to role model what they want on offense and that he'll contribute quite a bit this year. Lots of questions on Velus and of course Fields.

A few Bears draftees had some nice RAS scores, which is basically all the measurables. To put it in perspective, Urlacher scored a perfect 10.00 on RAS, man that dude was a beast. For the draft picks, there were several high players and others with high scores in certain areas. Gordon - 9.69 (15th highest Bears player since 1987) Brisker - 9.12 Jones - 7.11 B. Jones - 8.44 Robinson - 9.74 (11th highest Bears player since 1987) Thomas - 8.97 Ebner - 4.80 Kramer - 8.48 Carter - 6.30 Teven Jenkins is 13th. For UDFAs, Teague was 9.84 and Sanborn was 7.28. Teague's is one of the highest grades in the NFL since they started recording RA…
