Impossible to know the results, but on face value this is the best draft in quite some time. Fill needs? Check (for the most part...only six picks) Draft BPA related to needs? Check No big reaches? Check No stupid small school picks? Check No injury history guys? Check I don't know how any Bear fan can be truly disappointed with this draft. The draft is over and the Bears did not address QB until afterwards with Hanie and Hill. Let's discuss what they should do now. My thoughts: - Rex and Kyle are going to battle it out for starter. Whomever wins out gets extended if they succeed. - Wait for FA Qbs to hit the market from teams like Tampa (Simms, McCown, and Gradkowski may all be released) and bring in a 3rd stringer. - Put Hill and Hanie both on the practice squad. I thought it would be fun to do a weekly or bi-weekly draft poll. I used Walterfootball.com to give us a choice of where they have them ranked. Walterfootball has decent rankings and they update every Thursday. Tomorrows version should be interesting to see where players shift to since the combine. It may not be the most popular route to go, especially because Fields is such a great leader and teammate, but this group has won 10 games in the last 34. A 10-24 record. Fields is 8-22 in those games and 10-30 overall. This is not a tough decision. There is no way Fields returns. For Flus, you have to win the Division before you do anything else. He is 2-10 in the Division. I could care less about the improvement. It was clear it came from player acquisition and health, not some Flus magic. I heard Adam Jahns on Silvy and Waddle today talking about how Ben Johnson has been vocal and exacting on the field with the team. If you didn't hear it, he recounted a story where Caleb got through 5 reads, and finally dumped it off to Roschon Johnson on a swing pass, and he got a first down, maybe closer to 15 years on the play. But Johnson wasn't happy. He watched Caleb go through the progression, and yelled "FASTER" at Caleb in the middle of the rep. Thru the early games today, here is the current Draft Order. The Bears are literally in no man's land at #16. They also will be the only team in the NFL with exactly a .500 record thru Week 11. So depending on how things go, the Bears are only 1.5 games away from a top 10 pick and a game out of the last wild card spot. Not only that, if they somehow beat the Packers next week, they would only be a game back in the division. So next week the season is literally on the line in so many different ways. IMHO we are losing games not because of the offense or because of the defense but because our OC Turner has no imagination for winning. Why do you keep giving the ball to McKie with 3rd and 1 or 4th and one. This is two games that he has done that. With the way teams are stacking the box you have to be a thinker, and I think(I KNOW) that the fake handoff bootleg pass will work to the TE every time. A lot of this could be just me sipping the kool-aid, but for awhile now I've been thinking that this D they put together COULD be pretty good if all it's parts play to their potential. DL Ray McDonald- I think the off the field stuff is really blinding people on just how good McDonald is. Here's a guy who in Fangios very successful time in SF played the 3rd most snaps, so he was obviously a key part to a very good defense. I read a posters comments on a player, and it got me wonder. What do you all think is more important in this draft, for the bears. Often player, particularly after the 1st, who have the highest value may also come w/ a lower floor, or a great bust potential. Esentially, you have the chance to get a guy who could have been a 1st round pick, and could be a pro bowl player (or maybe just very good) but comes w/ some flags, whether it be character, injury history/potential, tweaner, position change, etc. So the question I have is, are we better off going after the player w/ a lower ceiling, but higher floor, or the player w/ the higher ceiling yet lower floor? …
