I guess they were waiting for the cameras, probably asked to by the league. Both are signed. And Caleb didnt try to change the league after all. That was just narrative from before the draft because he didnt have a PR person countering anything so the stories went wild - probably from teams in the top 5 hoping to shake him loose. Anyway the nonsense is over. We have successfully navigated cutting Fields and drafting and signing Caleb. Hopefully now the business of winning comes front and center. And speaking of centers and fronts, I wouldnt be shocked to see us sign Connor WIlliams, another DE or both.

In the last 3 seasons, the Bears have signed or traded for at least 37 players, I am sure I missed a few. Of all the trades and free agent signings, I have 5 players that have exceeded expectations based on contract or trade value. Who did I miss? How do you quantify how much of an upgrade the new acquisitions on the OLine will be? Well, I looked at a few stats and this one stood out: Sack Rate (Last 2 seasons) Thuney - Sack Rate 0.16% 4 allowed in 2500 snaps Dalman - Sack Rate 0.27% 4 allowed in 1486 snaps Jackson - Sack Rate 0.17% 2 allowed in 1148 snaps These 3 players allowed only 10 Sacks allowed in 5,134 snaps, a 0.19% sack rate. It is interesting looking at the mock drafts this year as the Bears have no real consensus player pick like in previous years. However, OL is selected in over 50% of the picks. OL, Edge, and RB are the 3 highest position groups. About 56% is OL, 19% Edge, 18% RB, and DT at 7%. So now we have heard from both Caleb and DJ Moore about tht pass where the Rams intercepted the ball. Both called it a miscommunication. That means it wasnt an errant throw by Caleb. And sure DJ jogged the last part of the route, but even if he had run full speed, he wouldnt have made it to the ball the way he was going. After taking day to catch up on some games and performances around the league I have a sense where the Bears fit in. I see all the angst about our loss, mine included, but I don't think a single new Head Coach won their first game including the one who has won a Superbowl, John Gruden. All these teams are in different states of repair but among this group we didn't fare so poorly. There is a learning curve for all new HCs and their teams. The saints just cut pro bowl guard Larry Warford. He was making 7 mil a year. IFEDI is here on a 1 yr deal so he definitely an upgrade. Let IFEDI battle for RG or you can have him be the swing OT. You probably get Larry for 1 yr 4 mil? I also read the bears are talking to him.

This news is a few weeks old, but it looks like most teams will start training camp on July 28th (in 2 weeks). Crazy I know. Also, it looks like teams will not bring in 90 players due to COVID-19 and because they won't have time to properly evaluate all of them and get the roster cut down in time. The consensus is that the NFL won't play any preseason games even though two are currently scheduled for late August. I would assume there is going to be a lot more soft tissue injuries this year if they don't have any physical contact build up. Bears look to go 2-0 in their last two weeks. This will likely be Nagy's last home game. I am assuming the Giants will be sending out our friend Mike Glennon. If that is the case, Quinn will have team record for sacks within the first two drives. If you thought the Bears team was bad, the Giants are worse. They only have 1 win on the road and have lost their last 4 and 5 out of the last 6. They have failed to score 14 pts in 5 of their last 6. I may be in the minority but I like our schedule going forward. It's tough, that won't change but the sequence is what I like. New England--at chicago and after a blowout win I have the optimism that the pats will not be as sharp than if they had just been blown out. My concern is that what they beat the Jets with is what we used to beat the lions with. Over the middle routs in the zone. We have Urlacher to help that middle part of the cover two but if we don't tackle better than we are doomed. I did a little digging and started compiling some stats on JA's draft picks and came up with some pretty telling numbers. 83 total picks out 10 drafts. 12 of the picks considered reaches at the time they were selected with a consensus of scouts and fans. 15% 13 of the picks had an injury history or character issues when the Bears selected them. 17% 58 of the 83 picks are no longer with the team. 70% That is the most telling stat that points to poor drafting.
