Well, it's about time to start this discussion back up. We probably have a minor signing or two left, but otherwise the team is set. Remember, please do not submit another mock. No trades. Both include too many what-if scenarios. I'll fire up a mock, then everyone chime in with your thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, etc. List the players you hate at the round mocked, where you think specific positions need to be addressed. I'll try to stay out of it for the most part, and I'm trying not to interject what I want. I'm putting what I think the Bears might do based on their moves this offseason. This is the previous draft we all agreed upon: MOCK …

Once again, the board is active with draft buzz. I went back and read many of last years posts to get a laugh or felt impressed with some early insight. Early on was doubling up on ILBs, DBs, and linemen. A lot of talk about staying BPA also. Once we got closer to April, some were shocked to see QBs projected to go top 2 as it was thought the class beared no first rounders. With that in mind, what is your early bold or daring predictions the Bears do in rounds 1-3. Give us something to look at a year from now. My take: 1. DeShaun Watson QB - I have Myles Garrett going to Cle and SF taking Kizer for some odd reason if they hire McDaniels and he takes a more…

  3. my thoughts are this... we decided as a franchise this was the time to go for that franchise qb. we had the draft slot this year to do so. waiting for another year guarantees nothing. we could pick in the middle of the draft. the qb class next year is uncertain. even if there is a can't miss qb 'ready to start' how in the world would we be able to move up to get him? in all likelyhood he would go #1 without a trade option. that leaves us looking at a qb of much lower ratings and having to trade up to get him anyway. by picking trubinsky we got the best qb prospect in the draft this year with real potential to be a star in chicago. we also have the luxery of not…

The original mock draft for 2017 produced the following: 2017 EVERYONE AGREES MOCK - VER 2.0 1. Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama - Nearly half the board is upset, regardless of the pick 2. Pat Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech - Assures Barkley doesn't start 3. Budda Baker, S, Washington - Gives the Bears a solid back-end 4. Chad Wheeler, OT, USC - Potential for either side 4. Kevin King, CB, Washington - Good size/speed combo, cohesion with Baker 5. Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA - Rising draft boards, could be a steal 7. Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon - Skilled pass-catcher with injury history Yes Votes for QB in RD1 - 10 Alaska - RD1 QB=Y Ashkum - RD1 QB=Y AZ54 - RD…

First of all, here's the link to 2016. Our picks were as follows (before all the trading): 1.Ronnie Stanley, OT - Selected a few picks before Chicago - Still a need 2.Sua Cravens, ILB - Selected later in the 2nd, even after trades - Filled by Nick Kwiatkowski 3.Jayron Kearse, SS - Selected in the 7th, we were way off - Filled by Deon Bush & DHC 4.Bronson Kaufusi, DE - Selected early 3rd - Filled by Jonathan Bullard 5.KeiVarae Russell, CB - Selected mid 3rd - Filled by Deiondre Hall 6.Dak Prescott, QB - Selected late 4th Still a need 6.Halapoulivaati Vaitai, OG - Selected late 5th - Filled by Cody Whitehair 6.Silverberry Mouhon, OLB - UDFA - Fi…

  6. Started by jason,

Two assumptions: 1) If the Bears lose to SF (I expect they will), they will have lost H2H vs Jacksonville and SF. That puts the Bears squarely in the #2 spot if I'm not mistaken. 2) The Browns have to take a QB. They've started 5 guys there, and even their version of Slash (Pryor) has a handful of passes. It's a mess and they need a QB. RD 1 - Myles Garrett, DE, TXA&M - Solidifies the only weak spot in the front 7. Elevates this D one more huge notch. With no injuries, that's a top 5 D in 2017. RD 2 - Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - By all accounts he has slipped out of the first round. I'm sure it's a mixed bag here. I think he'd be a great catch in t…

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000079...33-top-prospect Stinger brought this up, and it is interesting to see who someone may project out to be. Thought I would start a string were pages could be attached to look at.

  8. Mahomes vs Trubisky, Reid vs Nagy, Butker vs Pineiro! A bunch of storylines this week, except the Bears at 7-7 have very little to play for while the Chiefs are essentially only jockeying for the #3 or #4 seed. The #4 seed gets Buffalo and the #3 seed gets Pittsburgh or Tennessee. After that loss, and how it ended on the 2 yard line. I don't know how the Bears get up for this game. I am thinking the secondary gets torched by KC as no one can stay with Hill, Hardiman, or Kelce. Mahomes might be out at halftime with a huge lead. The Bears have too many injuries and nothing to play for. The offense is still a mess, so it could get ugly. I am thinking Chiefs 34…

With the standings complete, we now know who we will play next season. For full divisions, we play the NFC South and AFC North, and then the 2 other last place NFC teams, SF and PHI. Home opponents: Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. Away opponents: Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. There is almost no point to go into projections, but at least we miss some really tough teams like NE, KC, SEA, and DAL next year. The only o…

With the 32nd pick...just kidding on the mock. I think the Bears did better this draft than last, but time will tell. To be honest the ILB pick was the only pick today I thought were they doing. Not that I didn't want him, but thought he was 5-6th rd material imo. May be a steal? The Bears finally got it right lining up a GM and Coach starting it off together. If they keep the continuity up, they will be making noise in the playoffs for years.

We should improve with health alone, but didn't do much in this draft to make an early impact.. With that going and the toughest 1st half of the season schedule in the NFL, I will give them a one win increase, because I see the young guys playing more later this season, decreasing the chance to win. A 4-12 record could happen which nets them top 2-4 draft pick. Since they have their QB of the future drafted, they can now trade down with that pick which should be hot if the QBs coming up are what the say. That pick should net the Bears multiple 1sts and 2nds in both 2018 & 2019.

Assuming we end up with a top 10 draft pick in 2018, and knowing OLB is a big need for this team I'm keep tabs on some of the better edge defenders in college. So far none of them look like top 10 picks to me. Arden Key might have the length we desire on the edge but plays too lackadaisical for my taste. He's good at making the easy play, earns little more than that. Harold Landry has some excellent quickness in his first step but he's got little more than that. Offers little in run support. Bradley Chubb is the guy I like most. He has very good quickness and speed to get around the edge. His lack of length lets him get swallowed up at times in r…

For those who pay a little more attention to it than I do, does anyone see anything wrong with the following? Cut Mike Glennon, Dead Cap: 4500000, Cap Savings: 11500000 Cut Dion Sims, Dead Cap: 333334, Cap Savings: 5999999 Cut Bobby Massie, Dead Cap: 500000, Cap Savings: 5600000 Cut Markus Wheaton, Dead Cap: 750000, Cap Savings: 5000000 Total Cap Savings from these cuts is ~$28M. Current Cap is ~$40M. Total Cap after cuts ~$68M. Is that right?

27 days until the draft. Let's get started on some serious draft talk. What positions and players do you think we need? This year has us limited on picks, but we can find some gems. As George Thorogood said, "Who do you love":

We're are finally at the mid-point of the season. I'm curious what you view as our draft needs this offseason. As it stands now we won't pick until late in the 3rd Rd. Everyone knows Sims will be gone and that gives us $26mil in cap space. I expect a big chunk of that to be used to re-sign Callahan. Beyond that we just sign a few of our own players, or someone of similar talent, to fill out the roster such as RRH, Kush, Bellamy, LS Scales, and maybe Witzman. Likely departures Massie, Amos (I don't think they will pay him and Callahan), and the forementioned Sims. What then are the needs? The most obvious gap is RT if we let Massie leave. I think Coward wil…
