  1. I also agree with others who have replied to your post, I do not see where it is guaranteed Urlacher retires after the end of his contract. As far as asking for the predictions of who will be our statistical leaders when we return to the super bowl, I think the offensive leaders for the Bears next trip to the super bowl may yet to be wearing a Bears uniform. Kind of hard to make such a prediction when we are all expecting the Bears to add to the roster in areas of WR, RB, & QB.
  2. I would love it. Let Rex and Kyle battle it out on even ground in preseason (I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyle beat out Rex if Rex resigns with the Bears), cut or trade Griese, and bring in Flacco to develop behind these two.
  3. I think there will be 2 keys to the Bears defense returning to dominance next year (beyond health & an offense that can control the ball and clock): Safety, we need to be strong here and can not rely on Brown being healthy for 16 games and need to replace Arch. Dusty, if healthy, lined up beside a healthy Harris, will bring back memories of Hampton & McMichaels. They will be an awesome pair of DTs. And yes, I know Dusty has little experience but I think he will be outstanding if he stays healthy. I am not that worried about Briggs leaving, I think Williams & Okwo can fill in just fine. So we need to address the safety position on defense. Otherwise, I would be happy if the remainder of the draft class of 2008 centered on offense.
  4. OMG, if we drafted a stud OLT in the 1st and K Phillips fell to us in the 2nd I would be going out of my mind!! I just do not think Phillips will last past the 1st half of round 1.
  5. And on the PFW website they have a mock draft with them predicting the Bears selecting RB Jonathan Stewart* | Oregon with pick #14.
  6. Here is my problem with Hubby Bear. You say that he says he has inside sources whispering in his ear that the Bears feel DT may be one of their biggest needs. So HIS SOURCES INSIDE THE BEARS MANAGEMENT SAYS THIS??? In an article I posted just yesterday I quoted and gave a link to an article from ProFootball Weekly (PFW) which Hubby Bear is the top dog, the main man, it is his rag!! Now in this on line publication he has a column call "The way we hear it". It gives us information on all the teams from around the league with information from his inside sources with each team. Now, according to the latest "The way we hear it" for the Bears, where he gives us insiders info from his sources with the Bears he gives this article: So he has INSIDE SOURCES WITH BEARS MANAGEMENT. On the radio he says they are concerned about DT. In his "The way we hear it article" he says they feel they have a DL to die for. Can we say a bit of a contradiction here?????
  7. Just never gave it much thought until I saw this article. I was never one to want to franchise tag him to start with. Just as with Briggs, I wanted to sign him to a contract or trade him. I did not want to tag him. I do not like the tag. Too much money for a one year stop gap contract. The player is usually pissed off because of the tag. He then splits the first chance he gets. Not worth it in my opinion.
  8. If we can keep him "cheap" fine. No big bucks. If Dusty & Harris are healthy he would be a #3 DL for the Bears. #3 DLmen should not get big bucks.
  9. Nope, disagree, I would tie him up for a 4 or 5 yr contract that was cap friendly before I would give him 7.8 Million for 1 year and then let him walk like we seem to be going to let Briggs go.
  10. You can forget about using a franchise tag on Berrian. The link below shows the franchise and transition tag numbers for 2008. Way too much money for Berrian as much as I would love to see him stay a Bear. Tag, you're it ... a look at the '08 franchise & transition numbers
  11. Exactly what I was thinking. As much as I would like him in a Bears Uniform, I do not want him in the 1st. If we traded down and had 2 2nd rd picks and he was there, especially if Rex or Griese leaves the team, I would grab him without a second thought.
  12. On PFW website the latest The way we hear it article entitled: Bears feel very good about defensive front is an interesting read.
  13. There was an interesting article on the Chicago Tribune website entitled Scout Talk: Senior Bowl winners and losers that talked about the players who played in the Senior Bowl and which ones may be on the rise and which ones are falling out of grace with some of the GMs & scouts. One player we have discussed quite a bit in other threads was the first mentioned: A good article mentioning many other players, well worth the read for draftniks.
  14. If these two guys are potential studs I would certainly hope it would not take them 5-7 years to establish themselves. Many a career in the NFL does not even last that long.
  15. Yes, day one starts at 2 PM Central on Saturday April 26 Day 2 starts at 9 AM Central on Sunday April 27
  16. I doubt K Phillips is on the board when we select in rd 1. If he is I would take him in a heart beat! He would be an impact player year 1.
  17. You would think Davis could figure out by now it is not the problem with his HC but with his intervention in the teams affairs. He should keep Kiffen, a good man and HC, and sit back and let his HC and staff make the decisions.
  18. Yep, agree with everyone saying hell no. This guy does not fit in the Bears defensive scheme with his size/skill set and his attitude, from what is being reported, sucks big time. No thanks!!
  19. Hey dawhizz, who did we pick up in the draft after the 1st round? Be sure to keep us updated!!
  20. I like what I see in Flacco. Having grown up in Delaware and taken classes at the Univ of Delaware I assure you the Chicago winters will not cause him to go into shock. Newark is not far from Philly and if he was coming out of Pennsylvania no one would be concerned about the Chicago winters causing him to have to adjust. Slow release? I did not see anything wrong with his mechanics, although as an old (and getting older fast) OLman, what do I know about QBs mechanics? I was too busy trying to protect them than watching them throw, LOL.
  21. I love it when someone says one is making too many assumptions when talking about the Bears 2008 draft. ALL of our talk about the 2008 draft is based on assumptions. We have no idea what free agency will bring (+ or -) and even talk about our free agency is ALL assumption. We are here SPECULATING on what WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN based on our feelings as to what we want to see the Bears do this off season. It is fun to try and figure out what will happen. At QB will we keep Griese? If he goes we have an open spot for a QB, then I would assume we pick up a FA or draft a QB. If we pick up a FA QB I assume we will not draft a QB. If we keep Griese on the roster I have doubts we will draft a QB or go FA QB. I think they are committed to keeping both Rex and Kyle around. However, if Rex leaves via FA, all above changes. Then we have 1 or 2 open spots on the roster for QB. Then it more likely that we draft a prospect higher than we would have if Rex stayed. The question of what the Bears will do at QB is so much up in the air that it would be impossible to know for sure where this will go. The same can go for RB. Do we pick up a FA RB? If so do we carry 4 RBs? I honestly do not see AP or Wolfe going anywhere nor Benson. If we do not go FA RB I assume we draft a prospect based on JAs statement about bringing in competition at the RB spot. Until we see what we do in FA we have no idea what will happen. At WR will we be able to resign Berrian? Will we look to restructure Moose or cut him? How confident are the Bears that Hester could be an impact player at WR? As far as that goes, how confident are we in Bradley? Will we look to pick up a veteran WR? Do we draft a WR early or late knowing he will not likely make an immediate impact? I think it is safe to say we all agree we need a fix on the OL but we have differing opinions on how to accomplish this. FA is a safer bet as we know reasonably for sure what we are getting whereas in a draft we do not. However, FA OLmen of quality are expensive and I do not see many solutions for OLT available in FA. I think we could go OG or ORT in FA but I feel we might have to go draft that elusive LOT. Safety is another major need. I think it is safe to say very few of us expect to see Mike Brown start all 16 games this year, assuming he makes it to opening day without going on the IR. I love this guy. He is a tremendous player when on the field and when he is not our defense suffers big time. We need to address this position. Do we pick up a FA (there are several good options in FA) or go draft one? I feel we have the replacement for Arch in K Payne. Do we have enough depth at S even if we get a safety valve for Brown? I feel we have the depth at LB to cover Briggs departure with Williams and Okwo. However, do we have good depth here, especially if URL has problems with his back? Briggs could have slid over to MLB with no problems. Do we have to add another LB also? So all I am saying we know reasonable for sure without speculation we need to address: QB RB WR OL S LB??? What ALL of us is doing is SPECULATING on how this can be done by ASSUMPTIONS MADE!! No harm, no foul, just fun killing the time waiting for the Bears to kick some ass in 2008.
  22. I am sure he will be a huge improvement. They face some challenges in that their defense is getting very long in the tooth and they are in need of playmakers on the offense. Hmmmm, sould like a familiar situation, LOL. Fortunately, our defense still has a good base of youth.
  23. Davis needs to sell this team. He was at one time an excellent owner. He is now a joke. Kiffen is a good man and if given a chance and the players can turn this franchise around to be respectable. The problem is Davis is too impatient and will not allow a HC time to do what is necessary to turn it around. He needs to hire a GM to make personel decisions that he is now unable to make and keep Kiffen to work with the GM to BUILD a team.
  24. If the NYGs keep playing as they have been in the playoffs I do not think it will be a blowout but I do feel the NEP will win by 10, failing to cover the spread but winning comfortably.
  25. Sorry, BF2000, excellent show and I have enjoyed it very much but do not have the episodes recorded. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out.
