Why does it have to be one or the other? There are many backs who are solid inside runners, who also have the speed to hit the home run. Lawrence Marony, Ryan Grant, Marion Barber, and of course LT. Why can't we find a back who is decent at everything instead of one who can only do one or the other as a "compliment"? I think you provide competition by bringing in the best back you can and then making Benson compete with him. If Benson wins, it is because he can be an all-purpose back (or our staff is a bunch of idiots ). If the other guy wins, then Angelo made a mistake drafting Benson with the #4 pick .

If Rex is back (doubtful) it needs to be an open competition. If not, then someone else needs to be brought in to compete with him for the job. I personally think he is up to the task and will be a good/very good QB for us, but he needs to earn it during a TC competition. Agreed, unless we get a vet WR, Safety, or QB in FA. The it needs to be OL, OL, and anything else we may need in any order (preferrably a nice OT prospect in rd 1) Not disagreeing, but dang is it ever sad that we are considering the tag for him...our WR's are just sad... A team can accept a lower package for a player who is an RFA. The Browns could tender him and trade him for a bag of peanuts if they chose to. The kicker is the new team being able to negotiate a new contract with the player, because no team is going to give up draft picks/players for a player with a 1 year deal.

Agreed. Everything I've read and heard on the score points to Lovie pushing hard for Arch, not Jerry. That is solely on Lovie.

I don't think Williams is anywhere near Briggs, and I think Briggs will be missed a lot. But I agree that if we spend his money for help on O we should let him walk. I can handle losing Briggs if it means Faneca, Starks, any other warm body with an OT/OG next to his position tag...

If we sign who we want to (Faneca, Starks, FA S, FA QB, etc...) then do we get a comp pick even if Briggs leaves? I thought it had to do with gain vs lost in FA. Or is it just lost?

Maybe, but I don't think so...Bartman is hated by Cub fans only, us Sox fans could care less. Grossman on the other hand is on a team the whole city roots for. I have never seen/heard this much negativity about 1 player ever.

Between Harris and Briggs I choose Harris. While I would like Briggs to return, the $$ just doesn't addup. We want FA OL, WR, QB...We need to resign Harris...If Cliff and Jerry can fit all that under the cap and still keep Briggs, I'm all for it. But I would not sell the farm and mortgage the future on him.

2 points: 1. I don't think Rex will want to come back here, why would he? He has got to be the most villified person in Chicago sports history. 2. Rex is just too incosistent to play on this team. He has shown zero improvement in pocket presence (he actually regressed) and he still runs backwards to avoid the rush (I HATE that). I think that getting a FA QB to battle Kyle and Brian (Yes, an Orton homer I may be, but I want an actual competition this training camp). There will be some solid guys available this offseason, and with an improved OL we may actually resemble an NFL offense...

That would be great. Ending the season on a 2 game win streak will do wonders for our psyche going into next year.

Overall he has been a better back than Benson so far. The future is in question because of that knee injury, but thus far caddy has been better.

I won't argue there, but to say you want Rex over McNabb because McNabb is injury prone is just flat out hilarious.
