  1. You and I have always liked the trenches first but your number 1 is the only guy I would like if we don't get Donald or Jernigan(sp?). If he is the first pick then Hageman or Tuitt seems ideal for pick 2. Lets reach back to the 80's when SF took a few rookie DBs, Lott,Wright and Williamson, started them all and won a SB in the same year. The Bears don't have inside what the 9ers had back then so a happy medium should be in order similar to what Emery did his first 2 offseason and I stress offseason because his FA additions and trades helped the offense. He traded for Marshall and traded up for Jeffrey. That worked.
  2. To answer the original question, yes I would love 2 guys upfront at DT with some youth and upside. The current veterans at the position have had either nagging injuries or major injuries. Besides the last time the team drafted 2 back to back they helped fuel a Super Bowl run with Tommie and Tank. The 2 younger players meshed with the veterans that were on the roster to form a solid rotation. The same scenario could present itself this year. The one problem is there is no Mike Brown type player at the safety position, who it just so happens was drafted in the second round. I say go Donald/ Jernigan 1 and Ward or Buchannon 2 then Johnson or Quarles RD3. I think there is going to be a run on defensive players early causing some decent offensive players to drop to the mid rounds where BPA is a must.
  3. TT I'm with you! Depth at RB is really a non issue since this team and most others are in 1 back sets most of the time. 1 mid to late round pick could change the depth as well as an undrafted free agent. Just think Morris of Washington and Arien Foster of Houston. Our DT rotation currently is 2 scrap heap guys Ratliff and Collins plus a underachieving draft pick Paea. Our safeties are a collection of special teamers and Conte a pump fake away from being cut IMO.
  4. I was hoping he would leave because when he is on the field it seems he is seconds away from a flag being thrown and unless he composes himself I'm not happy he is still here. BTW I did'nt like him whe he waswith the Falcons,
  5. Richard Dent and Mark Clayton WR (Miami) were both drafted in the 8th rd of the 83 draft. AS for his teammates that were either UDFAs or later round picks. Les Frazier, Gary Fencik, Doug Plank and in the same round as Dent, Mark Bortz.
  6. I agree with the intimidation factor but with the new rules in the league I would prefer a safety that won't draw penalty flags. I am hoping for Donald at 14 and Ward RD 2.
  7. As a true Bear fan do you really sit up and think of hypothetical situations of other teams in the offseason? WOW!

    JA vs Emery

I'm ol' sckool now so bare with me. He is very similar to Jim Finks the main architect of the 85 team who believed in building upfront first and then you address the outside positions. Finks also helped build the Vikings strong teams of the 70's. Think about his first pick and the think icon Walter Payton. Thats Papa Bear territory. and that same draft we got Mike Hartenstine, Revie Sorey, Viril Livers and in RD 12 yes RD 12! Doug Plank and in RD 17 Roland Harper. So back in the day several of the current undrafted FAs would have been draft picks. Those days are over especially when fans like this board can access all kinds of info about players. I used to get the Chgo Sun Times, Trib and Chicago American/Today remembering one of the head sports writers there named Rick Talley. Again I'm Ol' Skool and also remember when Brent Musberger worked here on channel 2 and 5. He actually did the city championship HS games as a broadcaster and after the game was over I took my Brontosaurus out for a walk lol.
  9. Why would we help one of the elite teams in the conference get the player they want? Just asking because, I don't understand that thinking!
  10. This goes to show that they may not be done with the offense also.

    JA vs Emery

What I should have highlighted is JA's first 2 drafts vs Emery's first 2. 12 picks for Emery and 20 for JA. if we reviewed the picks side by side it may not be pretty for both but for fun this was JA's first 2 hauls. 2002................................2003----------------------2012-----------------------2013 1.Marc Colombo..................1.Michael Haynes-------1.Shea McClellin.............1. Kyle Long 2.Roe Williams....................2.Rex Grossman.-------2. Alshon Jeffrey.............2. Jon Bostic 3. Terrence Metcalf..............3.Charles Tillman-------3. Brandon Hardin..........3. Khaseem Greene 4. Alex Brown.....................4. Lance Briggs---------4. Evan Rodriguez...........4. Jordon Mills 5. Bobby Gray.....................5. Todd Johnson-------5. Isaiah Frey..................5. Cornelius Washington 6. Bryan Knight...................6. Ian Scott------------6. Greg McCoy.................6. Marques Wilson 7. Jamin Elliott....................7. Bobby Wade 8. Bryan Fletcher.................8. Justin Gage 9. .....................................9. Tron LaFavor 10. ...................................10. Joe Odom 11. ...................................11. Brock Forsey 12. ...................................12. Bryan Anderson Now looking at both of these guys 1st 2 drafts side by side and if we factor in the FA acquisitions what is the assessment? In JA's first 2 offseasons there wasn't the impact acquisitions like Emery has done to enhance his draft. Brandon Marshall trade last season plus Bushrod, Slaus?, Bennett and Trestman wins Emery the first year. In year 2 with Emery adding Allen, Houston and young plus resigning several key vets without making 1 pick tells me he has a leg up in the 2nd year.

    Great news

Sounds like PUP and a cut during the season. With all the new changes being implemented during the OTAs and he not being able to participate it will be tough for him to stay all year.
  13. Agreed but you don't have to be fast to help move the chains and this guy has a strong drive.
  14. Good reply a few mocks have us going after Ferguson and doing Roberson in the 2nd.

    JA vs Emery

Time on my hands looked up the drafts of our last 2 GMs which means our current and former. Found out that JA made 83 picks of which 18 are still in the league and of those 83, 10 made the Pro Bowl. Emery has made 12 picks, 9 are still in the league and with the team with 2 having made the Pro Bowl and if we consider Brandon Marshall as an acquisition then Emery edges out JA who had Urlacher already in the fold, drafted Tillman and Briggs, but acquired no one in his first two years that made the Pro Bowl. So when some of the media started to pound Emery for his defensive selections I had to take a closer look and when its all said and done I believe Emery will have more Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball than JA.
  16. I am still of the mind that there should be two young bodies brought in to the interior to be a future tandem like what was done when Tommie Harris and Tank Johnson were drafted back to back. Donald in round one and Hageman in round 2 would be ideal, but pressing needs in the secondary make my fantasy a little crazy. I could invision Donald and Hageman forming a nice tandem with no injury or gun issues to set us up nicely for a few years.
  17. Me thinks Jordan Lynch should be viewed as a Michael Robinson or Brad Smith type. Special teams,H-back and possible Wildcat QB in some goal line read option packages.
  18. Why wouldn't he go play for his daddy Lovie?
  19. Lets see Henry Melton rehabbing form a significant injury with questions about his work ethic put out there for the world to see by the current GM gets an incentive laden contract from a team he signs with and Devin Hester a one-trick pony gets an outrageous contract from a team desperate to recapture recent past magic make those two guys who we should listen to when it comes to organizational loyalty. One guy got paid a contract on a franchise tag but didn't play a full season and the other got paid a salary comparable to that of a number 1 WR but never met those expectaions and then there is the former MLB who has a few stray children with different women who was paid handsomely while employed by the Bears making stupid comments about loyalty. Can anyone say Erik Kramer? Screw anyone who is no longer on the team because I have been a fan since '66 and have seen players come and go including Gayle Sayers who was my childhood idol. He is just a bitter old man now and should be treated as such. Since we are bringing up past Bears making negative statements about the organization lets bring 2 quotes back from the 60's: "The Ol man throws nickels around like manhole covers" The Bears' organization is a chicken shit organization. Those 2 quotes come from Mike Ditka who later became the head coach and an icon to all of us and Virgil Carter who left the Bears similar to McMahon but returned to become a broadcast analyst for the team. Listen people this was from the 60's and early 70's of the past century, there just wasn't as much media coverage. This crap is not new when it comes to scorned athletes.
  20. Iam intrigued with prospect of seeing how well Michael Ford has progressed. He did well last preseason and should be a lot more comfortable this year since he should know what is expected of him. I still would use a late pick on a RB, but would not pursue one in FA. AS for Josh Freeman,I believe he is having a wakeup call and maybe the type of guy that can be molded into a solid QB by someone who is willing to be patient with him. Greg Schiano for what its worth should have never left Rutgers. He was a former pro assistant under the Jimmy Johnson and Wannie tree but never coordinated a defense in the NFL and that is probably the problem for his demise as a head coach. He was a little full of himself and if any of the offensive players were not on the same page as he, there was gonna be problems.
  21. I hate Jared Allen but truth be told he is a force when it comes to rushing the passer and you can find a stat to support any point of view but the most important stat that can be looked at in this case is sacks and durabilty. He has had double digit sacks 6 consecutive seasons and he has missed only 3 games in his career.
  22. Surprising signing and kudos to the poster who used his wife as a reason he would be here because of her Chicago ties. I look at this as one thing only. Emery has based his FA signings on how strong the positions are in this draft and obviously he thinks that DE is a weak position. The first thing I do is take Washington and put his locker right next to Allen and see if he takes him under his wing because Allen is here for atleast 2yrs. The work ethic and playing through injuries should help tutor this kid who obviously is a project. WTBS Willie Young being a 7th rounder had to be viewed as a project also.
