Donald is who I'm intrigued with when u watch Pitt tape he will show that he is what u want as a 3 tech DT. 3 prospects I'm hoping for at the Bears pick Donald, Jernigan and Hageman.

Everyone needs to keep in mind that Tim Jennings was resigned for multiple years and he is strictly a zone corner. Why do that if you are changing schemes?
-
With Frazier rumored to be on the hot seat, he would be a better candidate to run the Bears defense than Ryan.IMO He is familiar with the division and has run successful defenses in Minnesota in a 4-3. If he takes the heat for the Vikings drop off in play this year he will be in demand as a coordinator.

I wonder what Minn is going to do with Freeman?

Since I have been watching this team Emery is the most experienced guy they have hired at this position since Jim Finks. Both Hatley and Angelo were glorified scouts. This guy came in with a plan as to how he wants to approach things and didn't give a bunch of BS rhetoric like JA and Hatley wanted nothing to do with a coaching hire while it seemed Emery basked in it. Trestman comes with a pretty nice resume but I still wonder if he is a little late in the game but so is Ariens in AZ. I'm cautiously optomistic.

What are your expectations for Game 1 and the entire season?
lemonej replied to Bears4Ever_34's topic in Bearstalk
I think the offense will struggle this game. The D and ST look like they are going to be as good as before. In a perfect world Forte ,Jeffrey and M. Bennett should have good games. -
I agree also and believe that it doesn't matter who starts but more about who finishes. I believe Wooten is ready to breakout and also is in a contract year along with several other Bears. My only question about him has been durability and he answered that last season. SMC still is not a full time DE. He is the player that that is the rush LB in a 3-4..I hope they stop being stubborn and have a package where he drops rushes and moves around on the line.
-
The law firm is still on there team right? Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis. The Bengals are a physical team on both sides of the ball and I can't see them not trying to take it to the Bears and that doesn't fit SMC's profile. Wooten OTOH is as big as Peppers and almost as strong. Also the LT plays opposite the RDE. That is Peppers spot. Wooten or SMC would go against the RT.

Backatcha bro! This is my way of getting back to the sport I love the most. FOOTBALL! The third preseason game showed me something that the 4th preseason game back in the Ditka days showed me, we have a team that might do something special.IMO. If I had my choice Bostic gets the spot he is going to play next year and Earl Bennett is the 4th WR because of his health history.
-
On the first play of the game I believe Cory Wooten will be on the field and on 3rd and long Shea Mc will be there with Wooten inside next to Melton. Just Like the nickel CB is considered a starter the 3rd down pass rusher is also.
-
The first and foremost factor will be health. With DJ Williams returning to practice and possibly starting, having rookie LBs Bostic and Greene serving as depth bodes well. Of course Williams health going forward will be a concern but Bostic receiving significant reps in the preseason is a plus.Right now this team is thin at the OL depth an CB depth and inexperienced at quite a few positions after the top 3 guys. DT,DE,CB,OL and QB. This seems to be a work in progress and I'm not sure that this isn't a calculated gamble on Emery's part. If Cutler suffers a freakish accident on the field like when he broke his finger against the Chargers a couple of years ago then the "paddle and creek" phrase will be used a lot. The RB depth and the WR depth seems solid hinging on Bennett's ability to stay healthy as well as Marshall being okay as well. Forte needs to have a Charlie Garner year and Bush needs to stay healthy as well. I like Ford's hunger and hope that attitude carries on into the regular season. He along with Hester could continue to help flip the field for this team. Of course the learning curve of all the first year players will be a tremendous factor in determining how well this team does and how well Emery's roster turnover is doing. Picks to click. Forte and Jeffrey on O and Wooten on D.

Watching Phil Emery's final roster press conference spin shows why Webb was given every opportunity to succeed. He was an original Bear. A draft pick. He carefully pointed out how many home grown players that the division rivals have and that he needed to have more years like this year keeping younger players, all his draft picks and some undrafted free agents. This team replaced every O-linemen on the team except Garza. That speaks volumes as to how they are approaching this season. Webbs biggest downfall was/is motivation. If being demoted LT-RT and having money taken away doesn't get your motor running nothing will. In the infamous Packer game when Cutler shoved Webb and all he did was laugh highlighted Webb's demeanor. There is know stat that measures heart. Seeing that clip vs the clip with Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday going at it on the sidelines or even Barrett Jones and AJ McCarron at Alabama shows me he lacked the fortitude to be an edge protector. WTBS SC if you chose to walk away thats your choice! Here's a thought you can grab your sack and say screw all of us and keep posting!

I went with Halas,Red Grange,Butkus and Payton. Grange helped popularize pro football.

Since I have had 1 DUI here in Illinois I know that there is something called a Summary Suspension that kicks in a certain amount of days after your arrest. That means your license is suspended. I'm not familiar how it works in Fla. If you get arrested again after receiving a DUI the prosecutors start looking at a pattern of behavior. This is what E Rod needs to be careful of. Ill. prosecutors will take into account his previous arrest in Fla. Here in ILL if you don't agree to do the field sobriety test your license gets suspended faster. I believe immediately.Once again I don't know the particulars of his arrest but, in my case sitting in the court listening to the judge giving jail time to people for their 2nd and 3rd offenses was enough for me to say Moderation first, buy it and enjoy at home second and never drive after I have had an alcoholic beverage. For those on the board that think DUIs are for 20 somethings guess again. When I was in the courtroom there was more middle-aged people than 20 year olds.
-
Before this thread spiraled out of control I was going to mention the fact that Devin Aromishadu(sp?) was on a few roster before we picked him up and Cutler to a liking to him also. He still seems to be hanging around in Minny. This is all speculative and if E Rod can't stay out of trouble then there needs to be an attempt to have a backup plan.

I believe this move is clearly a message about how this staff and GM view voluntary OTAs and how they want this team to work going forward. If this team can let Urlacher twist in the wind trading Carimi who has given the team not much is no big deal IMO.

Another member of that famous 65 draft though he came in undrafted and turned out to be one of the Bears most electric returners who some say never called for a fair catch. He wasn't bad as a corner either and I have to tell you all that between Gayle Sayers and Devin Hester, he, Cecil Turner and Ike Hill were some guys who were exciting on returns for the Bears back in the day. Ron Smith was fearless on punt returns and he was one of my childhood favorites. He succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 70 but, his 30+ yd return avg in 72 got him voted to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist.

I' not sure about Faneca but Hutchinson is still in the league but I can't say where. And I agree about saying Bushrod is the tallest midget since the previous best Bear Olineman was Lance Louis. Bushrod's contract is not so bad for a starting LT so I don't think the Bears over payed for him. Did I misunderstand your point.

Most of us who are critical of Webb are basing it on all 16 games when he would get beat off the snap or make stupid penalties to kill plays and stall drives. Against Aldon Smith on national TV he was getting pushed into the backfield by a smaller player. The way that looked tells me he is not strong at the point of attack and doesn't anchor himself. That is not good for any O lineman. During the 9er game the whole OL got trashed and since that is one of the teams you need to beat to get to the SB then that game tape should serve as a measuring stick.GB our rival and top team in our division has a player that has killed Webb routinely. The only elite pass rusher I feel he has had some success against is Jared Allen prior to the last game they played when he abused Webb also. I will admit that the offense as a whole wasn't great but it all starts upfront. There have been too many additions this offseason at the OT position for me to believe this new staff was happy with the performance of any of the holdover players.
-
Everyone outstanding responses and I didn't consider coaching staff whenn I posted this so those of you who added that to the mix thanks. This is a fantasy type of post so anything goes so let everyone have their say without bashing. This is a whole new staff and a lot of these players have not played in Bear jerseys so its all speculative. If we change things to reflect the players from last season still with the team to breakout, step up or have an impact I got a few candidates. Alshon Jeffrey as the president of his fan club this is an obvious choice for me. His health will be key. Shea McClellin last years number one pick needs to show up and show out. Matt Forte 2 years now he has not played every game and is a big cap number he needs to play 16 games and prove that he deserved the big contract.

Reading is fundamental. My Bad! I was thinking Earl Bennett.

What does that mean in May?

OK as a casual hockey fan the speed and physicality of this sport is brutal. There is more dental bills in Hockey than the NFL and they are more preemptive when it comes to head trauma than any other sport.
