I don't know if anyone remembers when the Bears were looking for an OC they called the packers to talk to Tom Clements the QB coach and were denied, very similar to when the Bears denied access to Tice this past offseason.Clements is probably the hottest assistant that no one is talking about.

This goes back to what me and LT was debating a few posts ago. Lovie has the security of an extension in this organization that has never fired a coach with money owed.So he really is not handcuffed by what JA would say in regards to who to play and who to sit. Since Martz's pick to tutor at QB was Enderle and he was inactive or the emergency QB, the rumors about him being out the door may have some merritt. This is actually going to be an offseason when what LT was trying to get across to this old Dinosaur may play out. Lovie versus JA. With Martz being on the bubble and clearly Lovie's choice for OC a couple of years ago against JA's wishes, will Lovie demand that Martz be resigned or will JA insist on allowing Tice who has signed an extension to take over with the Idea of protecting Cutler better and utilizing some bigger OL and show what he is learned since his failed HC tenure. The negative in this situationis that Tice never has called plays on offense.

My post was based on a report I heard on Mully and Hanley this morning on the SCORE and then it was repeated this morning on Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000. Slo-mo pictures of the play look bad and the fact that he got up walked off and then put his helmet back on is a testimony to his toughness. I used to like Adam Schefter when he was on the NFL Network but once he went to ESPN he started to leak out some bogus info just to get you to subscribe to his insider info. It is the same reason why I don't follow Mel Kiper even though I am an NFL Draft junkie.
-
Conflicting reports are coming from ESPN that he has a torn MCL and PCL tear according to Adam Schefter.

Here is the last 10 number 19 picks: 2011 Prince Amukamara CB 2010 Sean Weatherspoon OLB 2009 Jeremy Macklin WR 2008 Jeff Otah OT 2007 Michael Griffin SS 2006 Antonio Cromartie CB 2005 Alex Barron OT 2004 Vernon Carey OG 2003 Kyle Boller QB 2002 Ashley Lelie WR The 2 before that were Casey Hampton and Shaun Alexander.

Currently youmay be half right because of the 2 Jeffrey's draft stock seems to be dropping. All of this is rhetoric right now until we see who is coming out and the 40 times at the Combine. That is how Julio Jones vaulted himself up in the draft last year.

1. Forte resigned first. 2.Go after Colston, Jackson or Meachem in FA for WR. 3. Relegate Webb to a backup and make Williams and Williams compete for the LG spot and since C. Williams is in his walk year maybe try him out at LT again. 4. Sign an O-linemen in FA and some DB help. 5. Hit on 5 of your 8 draft picks. 1 Cordy Glenn OG GA or Mark Barron SS. With depth problems on the OL and most of the secondary without contracts for 2012 either of these guys would be a fit going forward. 2. Rueben Randle WR LSU While his team struggles in the passing game when his number is called he believes the ball belongs to him. 3.Nate Potter OT Boise ST This is a wishful thinking pick that would drop to this round but I'm guessing other positions will take the emphasis once the 2nd day begins. 3b. Robert Blanton CB ND or BJ Cunningham WR Mich igan St. Again secondary youth and depth is a need as well as a big physical WR for Cutler to count on in the middle of the field. 4. Danny Trevathon OLB Kentucky Depth at the LB position is a must aswell as quality youth. 5. Jeff Demps RB Fla Another wishful thinking pick because it is my thinking that this kid may run the fastest time at the Combine in February. 6. Jaquies Smith DE Mizzou Idonije is unsigned and aging ,Chauncey Davis is a question mark, Wooten likes the training table and JA drafts DL every year. 7. Garrick Williams ILB Texas A&M Urlacher is aging and it would be wise to try and get a replacement that wouldn't offend and can be groomed by Urlacher while he plays on special teams. Obviously the perfect storm would have to occur for this scenario to play out to my liking but its a new year and we can all dream about the months to come.

I would try and go for an FA early then if unsucessful I spend a misd rounder on either AJ. Jenkins ,Ryan Broyles or McNutt.

Really? Omiyale was out on the field in game 1 against ATL and game 2 against NO when he was benched during that game. Then came the GB game in game 3. After that game was the Mon. Nite at DET when it was clear that Cutler was having a decent game by avoiding the rush. Lance Lois was at RT after Omiyale was benched during that game. After this game the Bears were 1 and 2. Then came the Carolina game which the Bears won but again Cutler took some hits and was sacked multiple times but Omiyale was still there in the lineup. 2 and 2 then the Mon Nite Det game. Omiyale is taken out of the game and replaced by Louis. At 2-3 the Bears go on a roll and the sack totals start to dwindle as a result of a combination of things ,QB, change of block approach(more max-protect) and the D and ST rise to the occassion. AT 7-3 the Bears had a good thing going with dwindling sacks and a RB who was having a special season. In consecutive weeks the starting QB and RB go down to injury and then the OL starts to look like early season form and that is proven in the KC game when the starting RB got hit by a player who wasn't blocked by the TE(brought in because of his blocking prowess) whiffed on a block allowing the hit on the RB. Please give me your take on why this same line you seem to be okay with didn't realize where that LB that hit the starting RB and put him out for a few weeks was and why he wasn't getting blocked.

I knew we would agree on something! I just believe that it is going to change only if JA retires or the Bears tank next year and Lovie gets fired because as you have indicated in the past how this team doesn't eat multiple years of HC's contracts. I do believe that Lovie and his agent were smart enouogh to not have a buyout option in his latest extension. Teddy is a real interesting addition to the mix because another rumor that has been floated is that they put Teddy in position to get a stadium deal and now that that is done now what? Most of us felt that when Ted was appointed he was a puppet for the family and there hasn't been a lot to change that perception except the trading for Cutler and his extension and the dropping of big coin on Peppers, Taylor and Manushamuneula. As far as the top down structure since in early the 70's I posted on this same thread(lol) that I was a big fan of Jim Finks I agree with your idea of the personnel department doing their job and the coach giving them a "Wish List". I'm sure you and me both agre that it is real good that no one above JA has the final vote on draft picks because IMO it would be worst than it is now. I just wonder if JA does retire is a rubber stamp to Ruskell taking over IMO after the draft next spring. Just for the record you know I don't question you on numbers so basically I had actually did do some research but, I don't know if my numbers compiled with an "Old School" calculator measure up so maybe me rounding my numbers up or down didn't make sense to you but believe me, I really thought I had a good theme going (lol).

Putting their sarcastic approach to this aside, this does bring to question some of this team's players "Football IQ". 1. Hanie not knowing how to kill the clock as a QB. No more needs to be said. 2. Barber not knowing where to lineup when he splits out wide says that he may not be astute in the passing game or he just doesn't know the game. 3. Barber not staying inbounds when it was critical with the game on the line. See the end of above. 4. Barber not knowing to cover the ball with 2 hands while in the middle of the field with multiple defenders reaching at you. 5. Zack Bowman and Chris Conte not knowing what coverage was being played on the most critical play of the game. 5a. Lovie saying that Bowman earned playing time based on how he fared in practice but Corey Graham who had 3 picks in 3 games replacing an injured player doesn't deserve playing time for a coach who stresses TO's. This doesn't seem like a very intelligent group this year. It goes against the very football savy veterans on this team like Urlacher ,Peppers, Cutler,Briggs ,Tillman and Forte.
-
Was the time to throw because of Culter's ability to step up in the pocket or his ability to roll away from the rush? Was it exceptional holes or did they attack the edge with Forte and he made a tackler miss and then he was off on a long gain? As for Webb having Allen's number, is that based on the one game this year? I don't remember Allen lining up across from him alot in the 2 games last year. Allen had a couple of sacks against the Bears last season in the first game but I can't remember if he even played in the game at the Golden Gophers stadium. This line at one point not only led the league in sacks given up and hits on the QB. Now this has resurfaced recently.

I read the complaint and the affidavit from beginning to end and this seems identical to what happened to Vick who allowed some of his posse too much access to his personal property and info.In the complaint he allegedly spoke of his intent and actually admitted that he needed a better supplier that could meet his demand. It also states that his acquaintence was released to basically set him up.What an idiot. They let Davis walk for this guy.Wow!

Okay that is why we went at this like Godzilla vs Rodan.LOL We clearly have a different view of how well JA is doing and whether he wields absolute power or not. I will agree that who is more liked by the family is in question because during negotiations for Lovie's first extension it was rumored that Virginia absolutely adored Lovie so when you bring up that variable I have to agree but, the fact that he has restructured his whole personnel department and jettisoned some long time scouts with Bobby DePaul being the most notable. If that doesn't say something is wrong with the way we do things then you and me can agree to disagree. BTW Happy Holidays LT!!

I'll add lack of football IQ to this also. From players not knowing how to lineup correctly after being here all season,to not knowing game situations as well as clock management all game. Maybe if we had some timeouts at the end of the game when the DL was gased we could have used them to regroup. Sorry to say to those who point to this staff, its not just on the staff. Some of the mental mistakes are basic fundamental football like staying in bounds when the other team has no timeouts and knowing how to spike the ball to kill the clock. This ones for the defensive staff. When a player who has made 3 INTs while replacing an injured player for 3 straight games doesn't deserve more playing time than the guy who"Practiced Well", then you deserve to lose that game when in game situations that player looked confused on the field on a scoring play.
-
Dare I say time to see what we have in Enderle? If you let this guy go and you should who is the backup especially if Martz is not resigned? Watching all the current crop of rookie QBs have some success espicially Yates( who I liked coming out of UNC),Newton,Dalton,Ponder, Yates and Locker have all shown more than Hanie. Then add Skelton in Arizona who has less experience than Hanie and a couple of these guys came into similar situations with limited first team reps.
-
The QB made some nice throws. I think McNutt is a top talent but some of the Iowa skill position players under Ferentz haven't transitioned well to the next level with Shonne Greene being the most solid recently and of course Dallas Clark.
-
My biiggest problem with Hanie is he has missed too many wide open plays when he has had them and there has been no targeting of the WR that just signed an extension nor have the TE been a part of the passing game instead he has looked heavily toward Knox and Hester in the passing game and an occassional throw to "Stone Hands" Williams. If you want to keep some of those blitzing LBs at bay then some of your hot reads need to go to the TEs just to keep them honest. He leaves a lot of potential big plays on the field.
-
Benson? Then you can go back and add Haynes and Grossman too and all are not playing with this team. One of the first rounders has netted you a 3rd rounder next year so we have nothing for that 1st rounder one of the O-lineman drafted is not playing the position he was drafted at and spent his first season injured because the team didn't do their homework on his back injury history since the injury occurred early in TC and now another injury that isn't related has shelved this pick again and he is still on his rookie contract. The other 1st round OL has suffered a similar injury to his knee that he had in college also. That totals 3 1st rounders with nothing to show so far and then you factor in you gave up 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder plus your starting QB who was a 4th round pick of yours (when the draft was only 2 days) and got your starting QB and a 5th round pick(Knox who quite a few fans think is the new Bobby Wade). So from the last 5 drafts the yield on offense is Forte and Bennett as your solid picks and your acquisition of Cutler. Lets add Knox a 5th, Davis a 5th, Louis and Webb both 7th rounders and now you have a 2nd, 2 5ths and 2 7th's. Bennett is the first WR pick of JA's that has signed an extension with this team. All the rest were cut or allowed to leave. The only JA draft pick at RB that has signed an extension is A P and he is no longer with the team. JA has extended more guys on defense than on offense in his tenure.
-
Peppers was getting mugged all day and didn't get one holding call. The one holding penalty that was called was on the guy grabbing inside Okoye's jersey early in the game.
-
Man I agree with this 100%. It almost seems as if Martz is being short changed by the personnel department. In 2 years when we know this is the OC we don't draft accordingly? When constanly drafting to accomodate the defensive scheme.
-
Lloyd you and me have been at this for quite some time now and lets put the cards on the table. You seem to be defending Jerry Angelo and all he does. So I must ask you what was the top down structure in 2001? This team was already in place when he arrived and all he did was tweek the roster to help the coach. So 2001 should be attributed to Mark Hatley so that leaves only 05 and 06 on JA and then what happened after that? Between 2006 and 2010 we had some lean years and what was it based on? The top down structure? Or was it based on the lack of production on the field? The talent was sub par during those years so do you put all this on the coaches or do you put it on the person who is at the top of the personnel tree? I still believe that JA is in over his head and the fact that his HC has a winning record despite our talent pool point to a HC that has constantly supported a GM who he is tied to.I'm not a big fan of the HC right now but I am even less impressed with the GM.I have never had this many answers with you on posts before now and we were both on the old board. So whats up? Is this about JA or what?
-
No one offers a coach an extension without a bump in salary. This is supposedly an offensive guru and in his mind he believes he deserved a raise.Thats the reason why he supposedly turned down the offer. Martz has a huge ego and I believe he will be gone after the season.
-
It started with my post and once Mad L said that it was BS and lets wait until we see how they game plan. I figured I'd throw my 2 cents in towards a defensive game plan. I don't think this is the first time when a thread has not followed a posted article nor will it be the last time.

That is outstanding. I love it.
