The problem with trying to compile this list is that some of the guys we pick come from some run heavy teams so we have to project what they may do. Here's my list of WRs right now: 1 Alshon Jeffrey So Car 6-4 229 4.56 This kid when the ball is in the air claims it as his. Poor QB play by Garcia has dropped his stock but I have gushed over this kid all year and finally learned how to spell his last name. 2 Justin Blackmon OK ST 6-1 215 4.54 This prospect is probably the one who will be game ready in mini camp with the only question being his straight line speed. If he runs sub 4.5 at the Combine he will be the first WR picked. 3 Reuben Randle LSU 6-3 208 4.57 Playing for the run heavy Tigers you know this kid can block but when the Tigers need a first down he is the guy even with Jefferson throwing to him. 4 Mohamed Sanu Rutgers 6-2 215 4.57 94 catches on the season breaks Larry Fitzgerald's Big East record and Kenny Britt's school record of 87. 5 Michael Floyd ND 6-3 224 4.54 This kid's stock has dropped in my eyes because of his injuries. I also question his speed and believe that he will be a solid pro on the next level along the lines of Donald Driver. 6 Kendall Wright Baylor 5-10 190 4.42 This is the best shorty of the bunch who is reliable with speed and gets in the endzone. 7 Dwight Jones No Car 6-4 225 4.53 Jones is the first upside guy inserted here with the idea that this program that has produced some decentprospects over the past couple of seasons He has great size and speed. 8 Nick Toon 6-2 220 4.52 Toon the son of former NFL WR Al Toon has been up and down but he can be clutch and does have experience in a run oriented offense and does a decent job blocking. 9 Marvin McNutt 6-2 215 4.52 A very streaky WR at times who when hot can be a game changer !200 plus yards 12 TDs this season backs that up. 10 AJ Jenkins 6-0 190 4.49 A Big Ten best 84 receptions on an inconsistent team almost 1200 yards(1196) says this kid could be someone on the rise. His physicality is what most question so he will need to get in the weight room.

Niether am I but my thinking is that this guy is going to drop to them and if you really want to shore up the position then you take the top rated player at that position. Major Wright when healthy looks to be decent but health is the problem. When Steltz was inserted in the lineup before Merriwether last week that tells me he may not be back. So with Steltz unrestricted and Merriwether gone there is no one besides Wright and Conte who looks like he gets it. They wil be adding some bodies to the mix.

Tebow for what its worth is a tough kid and for those on this board who actually watched him play reminds us of Bobby Douglass. Believe it or not the Bears under then coach Abe Gibron ran the option with Douglass on occasion. His only Tebow-like moment was in I believe 70 when he threw 4 TD passes with a broken arm when the Bears played their home games at Wrigley Field. My version of this defensive look would keep your base personnel in and cause Tebow to read what look the Bears were in. If an LB is on the LOS he has to believe it is going to be a blitz and he may change the play or force the play which is what I'm hoping for. Our veteran defensive players need to take this game personal and go after this team with everything.

This will probably make Jason puke also: 1 Mark Barron SS Alabama The consensus best safety in the draft. 2 Zebrie Sanders OT FLA ST This provides depth and competition at a position that needs it. 3 Nate Potter OT Boise State Though he is not truly protecting the blindside he has played LT for a couple of years and you can't pass him at this position. 3 AJ Jenkins WR Illinois This is a need pick that may be a good fit for this team in terms of toughness and playmaking ability. 4 Jeff Demps RB FLA This kid will probably record one of the fastest times in Combine history and he has fallen to this spot because of his lack of size. 5 Julian Miller DE West VA With Idonije without a contract and Peppers up in age you need to add a young prospect and keep Wooten healthy. 6Tashuan Gibson CB Wyoming Most of the secondary will be up for contracts this offseason, they may not be able to sign every body. this is a 6' CB with OK speed. 7 Isaiah Ballard S/KR Findlay This is a lemonej pick. He originally started out at Toledo in the MAC but transferred to division II Findlay in his last year. With 96 Tackles, 67 solo ,2 Ints, 6 FF and 4FRs and at 5-10 and 215 this is an older kid who also averaged 28.2 yards per kick return.
-
Jason in his scenario he has taken care of the WR via FA and with this group his first couple of picks may fill glaring needs created by impending free agency on D. Quite a few of the secondary are all going to be unrestricted and so is Izzy.
-
Here is one wrinkle I would do. I would play a 5 man line with Nick Roach being that 5th guy on the line. Giving him the opportunity to read and react on the LOS x x x x x 90 69 92 71 53 54 55 Then the secondary has to have a cover 2 look with one safety high.

I'm loving the fact that for the first time in a few weeks its all gloom and doom for the Bears and they are considered underdogs a role that they flourish in.

Sarcasm intended ,thanks for giving me permission to have my own opinion and then contradicting that statement by saying how I should use my stats I compiled. Missing on picks is not the only reason why I'm not happy with the way JA has performed(I don't believe I have ever used the word sucks in this thread referring to JA).He has missed on FAs and trades. He has not supplied this team that now has a franchise quarterback with the right players to keep him upright and off the ground since he has been here nor has he given the staff on offense some adequate young players or FAs to utilize this season. Here is this years additions on offense from our GM: Carimi, Spencer, R. Williams, Spaeth, Barber and Sazenbacher. While all have played only a couple of these names are probable for next years roster. When it comes to evaluating a GM what should it be based on? If you believe that the HC should not have the final say over his 53 man roster and that the GM who hired him, with the idea that he was bringing in a guy who shares a similar philosphy, didn't have anything to do with his extension then obviously you and I will never agree on this subject. If any GM, personnel man or even owner(Jerry Jones and Al Davis) has the final say over the roster what power does the HC have over the players? When Chris Harris was first made inactive then subsequently cut after that do you really believe that was JA or Lovie's call? When Lovie has done some things that for him is out of character by calling players out publicly, was that through JA? When the team president, GM and HC had that press conference after that terrible 09 season and we all referred to them as the 3 Stooges and then they drop serious coin in FA for Peppers,Taylor and Manumaneula, who made concessions the HC or Teddy and JA?
-
Yea he is trying spin control after all the rumors about him sniffing around came out. He didn't come out and say that the rumor about him turning down an extension wasn't true though. The fact that the Bears allegedly offered an extension with no raise is a slap in the face.

[quote name='LT2_3' date='Dec 7 2011, 10:26 PM' post='9 As I said, if you want to complain about the lack of success in either getting to the playoffs or in winning superbowls, then please do so. However, once you bring the draft into it, there is always the question of whether it's a problem with the talent selected, or the coaching that fails to develop it. Can you honestly tell me that you think the Bears would have had the same results with the same players with Belichick as HC instead of Lovie? No they wouldn't as long as the current personnel staff stays the same. My post and I'll say it again is about JA and his picks.Thats why I titled it the way I did. The reason why I bring the draft into it is because I'm a draft nerd and spend my Saturdays looking at games and compiling notes for the draft guide that I have produced for my family and friends for the past 7 years and I have been able to recognize quite a few guys that were NFL worthy. Belichick's picks have sucked since Scott Pioli has left and the Colts picks have sucked since Bill Polian let his son have a bigger role in personnel. IMO if their HOF QB that they drafted was playing it wouldn't matter. The same can be said for the Patriots who also have a HOF QB they drafted and developed Thats not my point I don't care what"other teams" do because I have been watching the Bears since 66 not the Patriots or Colts( who at the time I started watching was in the NFL with the Bears). That means for 45 years I have been aware of the guys they selected in the draft and who made the picks. I can remember Papa Bear trading a draft pick to the 49ers for the now renowned OL Guru Howard Mudd and saying what the heck was that. I also remember when a real HOF GM Jim Finks took over and started to build a playoff team. The playing field was different then as there was no FA and players were bound to one team sink or swim but the formula for winning wasn't. Build your teams in the trenches and draft or acquire a franchise QB. If you look at the current playoff contending teams in the NFC they all have drafted and retained their draft picks a little better than the Bears. They then add other players to a solid core and sustain success longer. In the NFC North GB and DET have drafted and developed more of their recent draft picks than the Bears. The Vikings are in the same category as the Bears retooling with FAs every year. This team for the first time during JA's tenure started 4 O-Linemen he drafted on opening day. Of the players that have longevity in this league OL is among the leaders but JA has refused to select them. I know you saw the numbers and started dissecting them but,my numbers were to support my opinion that JA does a poor job drafting players for his coaches' schemes. Of his drafts the one that has become the core is the 2008 draft which has yielded 4 starters on offense and 2 starters on special teams. Chris Williams,Matt Forte,Earl Bennett and Kellen Davis. Craig Steltz and Zack Bowman on special teams who have on occassion started on defense in the past. So I say this current group of coaches have developed these players who started this season still playing on their rookie contracts and only one has signed an extension. Who's lap does that fall in?
-
Gonzalez was Sazenbacher a few years ago. He may have been one of the reasons why Sazenbacher went undrafted. Ugoh just got signed today by someone as a fill in. Of course I got pissed about that. BTW wasn't he in the draft with Chris Williams?
-
LT I'm speaking about this GM and this team (because that is who I'm a fan of) who has had 10 drafts and without doing the research I'm guessing that the average life of an NFL player isn't 10 years and there is only 2 players who he has drafted that have been here 9 years. BTW Our LS currently the longest tenured Bear on IR was actually drafted by the previous regime. Since you brought up the Patriots for example, how many Super Bowls have they appeared in during JA's tenure? How competitive has that team been in that same span? The answer may be why they have jettisoned some of their draft picks. They also have traded some of their picks and recieved early round picks for them basically fleecing other teams for players like Richard Seymour and Matt Cassel. The other difference is they don't wait to pull the plug on a bad draft pick see Merriwether for that example. When it comes to personnel decisions I can't compare this organization with the Patriots because of the production on the field. Why should I go back 20 years when this team didn't have a true GM for that whole time? You do remember Hatley,Graves and Tobin who were all scouts that were the Personnel Directors when Mikey took over and fired Jerry Vanisi the last GM before JA. All I'm saying is that with a coach and GM team in place for as long as Lovie and JA have been, there should be a bigger core of drafted players on this team enhancing the the good acquisitions of Cutler and Peppers which should have been putting this team over the top instead of hoping to make the playoffs 2 years in a row. While we are still on the subject of drafting good or as you say acquiring good, take a look at the defending Super Bowl Champs roster and see how many players on that roster is drafted and developed by them. The object of this team should be to win the Super Bowl and just like when the Bucaneers won teams emulated their style which is why both our GM and coach have jobs.We need to take a page out of their book and draft and develop some players we pick. We do have to play the current SB champs twice a year.

I did a little digging and started compiling some stats on JA's draft picks and came up with some pretty telling numbers. 83 total picks out 10 drafts. 12 of the picks considered reaches at the time they were selected with a consensus of scouts and fans. 15% 13 of the picks had an injury history or character issues when the Bears selected them. 17% 58 of the 83 picks are no longer with the team. 70% That is the most telling stat that points to poor drafting. With 3 on IR and 1 on the PS,that leaves 21 of JA's 83 picks currently still with the team. 25% I'm a lot more disturbed after looking at all of these numbers and realize why this team cannot sustain any success because of the constant turnover of the roster and the lack of developing of draft picks. Then factor in the constant turnover in the assistant coaches and we have the constant up and down seasons recently. Then factor in some of the bad decisions made on the field by Lovie and you wonder how he actually has a winning record in his tenure. The key to any sustained success is continuity and that has not been the case under this GM. The only unit that has remained with a core of players is the defense which is why it is the strength of this team. 4 players on defense have been with the team since Lovie has been here they all are starters Urlacher,Briggs,Tillman and Idonije. 2 are draft picks of JA 1 is a draft pick of another administration and the other is an undrafted FA that I believe JA signed. This team has a chance to have back to back winning seasons for the first time in quite a while and the GM's lack of adding quality depth to the roster and now that could be in jeopardy.

Just like Blagojevich, Farve please go away for 14 years.
-
That could be a kinda fun thread. The most drops offense and defense. The most penalties offense, defense and special teams. The most slip downs offense and defense. The most mysterious injuries/scratches. The most times in Lovies doghouse. 1 Sazenbacher and Williams on O and Jennings and Tillman on D.Tillman has done quite a few pushups on the field. 2 Webb on O, Tillman on D and Zack Bowman on special teams 3 Knox on O and Tillman on D 4 Adams 5 See above.

Jason I worded it wrong and meant to imply that on some of the TOs or bad passes he held the ball too long. I noticed on some of the deep drops he was hopping and patting the ball. The over throw of Bennett was a perfect example of that. You are absolutely right about some of the jail break rushes that were coming at Hanie and I believe that contributed to the happy feet he exhibited the rest of the game. I'm not trying to absolve the OL's horrible effort on Sunday one bit and believe this should clearly prove that there needs to be an upgrade in talent and depth. Once Carimi and Williams went down(which is really sad)there was no solid backup plan. The same goes for the WR position if the argument is why Williams was playing before Knox then you really have a problem at that position also. So for the record I believe this should be the priorities in this order: 1 Protect your biggest investment,Cutler that means draft OL before the 7th round and develop them. 2 Get solid weapons for your biggest investment,Cutler, draft or acquire WRs that have size and speed plus reliable hands. Then we can relegate the smaller novelty guys(Knox and Hester) to that role which suits their talents. 3 Get some youth on every level of the defense. There is age issues in the front 7 that warrants some attention and most of the secondary are up for contracts after this season and you have to figure that they won't be able to resign all of them. BTW Sorry I took this long to respond because I have been looking at potential draft picks all over the place and today I have read so many mock drafts that my eyes are spinning.LOL

" I had a linebacker in front of me and when I came around him I saw a brown thing coming at me." That qoute says it all. That is why he has so many drops, he doesn't realize the "the brown thing" coming at him is a football which, he gets paid to catch.
-
I can't agree with that Jason because on Martz's previous 2 stops he was one and done as an OC because of the way the QB would get hit numerous times. He has some very good plays to attack defenses without putting his QB in harms way. The most recent game is not on his play calling but more on Hanie holding the ball which kinda releases the line of some of the blame. Don't get me wrong though I agree that there is only so much you can get out of a patch work OL.Derrick Johnson was unblocked on several run blitzes which means the interior guys and the QB didn't recognize this during presnap reads. Martz's system reminds me of Buddy Ryan's 46 defense, with the ideal personnel it works but if you don't have the ideal personnel it is suspect. Everyone who played on that offense to a man admitted that if not for them having Marshall Faulk it would not have worked. Most of these so called "gurus" need a few years and a cooperative GM to acquire the right talent for their schemes. This GM is not on board with Martz at all and you can see that in the disparity of dollars spent on defense versus offense. In most cases it involves HOF talent that falls into their laps.Example our cover 2 is only good because of Briggs,Urlacher and Peppers who will get HOF consideration.
-
Hanie is just what scouts thought he was, an undrafted free agent QB and he is playing like that right now. The OL played like what they really are a patchwork group of linemen. The WRs played like mid round draft picks and other teams cast offs. The defense again held an opponent to a very manageable point total and still no win. This is the harsh reality of the way this team is made. The talented players top to bottom are on defense and when one player goes down the next is able to step in and do the job. Today even Stelz played well.

Mad L Tyler Clutts blocks again.

They are saying that Forte is done for the game.Thats not good.

Wow Players are dropping like flies. So much for Orton riding to the rescue.

My son actually went up against DBs he coached at a Uof Ill. camp a few years ago.

This young man is really trying his luck. evidently he is okay after losing control of what was described as a vintage auto and he had 2 others in the car and both are also okay. I guess he is originally from Portland as he played prep football there. The report stated that he was not impaired and that he was cooperative with the police.

Dallas would be the number 4 seed if they win the division and the Bears have a shot at number 5. GB 1 SF 2 NO 3 Dal 4. Bears 5 Atl 6. Atl vs NO and Bears vs Dallas wildcard round.
