  1. Why is 2 weeks before the Combine important for a hiring deadline? Personally I want someone tonight! If you already have a scouting department in place with Ruskell in charge and the candidates you are interviewing are already working in some capacity in talent evaluation why wouldn't that work? As far as FA goes you gotta' believe Lovie has the keys to the car this year.
  2. Agreed and its on the scouting department to do this research and I do believe it is important to have someone in place by the Combine. If they follow the way they have been interviewing strong college scouting guys they should have minimal problems since most of the candidates have been in the evaluation process prior to being interviewed.
  3. It makes perfect sense to interview a coordinator with HC experience since in the past the Raiders while Al was alive went for first time guys exclusively. This signals a change in philosophy in that organization.

My one and only problem with TO is not on the field or in the lockerroom as he demonstrated in Buffalo that he could remain low key,its with the two disturbing rumors about suicide attempts by TO with each time Drew or his publicist going into spin control ruling one an accidental overdose. This is why I would pass on TO.
  5. Riedell Anthony,Ike Hilliard,Jacquez Green,Travis Taylor,Reche Caldwell,Jabar Gafney and Taylor Jacobs were all drafted to the NFL and had more than a cup of coffee in the league. If I throw in Rice and Williamson from South Carolina he has had 18 WRs drafted and played in the NFL in some form or fashion. There are 4 TEs that have played in the NFL that he either recruited or coached. Erron Kinney,Aaron Walker, and Ben Troupe from Fla and Jared Cook from South Carolina. Brian Bear this is not about you being wrong this is about our difference of opinion on Alshon Jeffrey's talent. Out of the 22 players I researched that played for Spurrier at either WR and TE none of them had Jeffrey's measurables. In most scouts eyes the biggest knock on Jeffrey is the same one that is on Floyd and Blackmon and that is their timed speed. These guys are all big targets but none of them have created much seperation from defenders and basically have just outmuscled defenders for the ball. I believe that is why there is such a wide variety of opinions on Floyd and Jeffrey. Floyd's ability to answer questions about his off-field missteps may go a long way to determine whether he is the second WR off the board.
  6. Thanks and I just read it on the Trib site that one is II and the other is III and this is the one going for the job. The fact that he has been around the game all his life adds to his resume.
  7. My comment was about a drop off in talent between OTs after the top 3. De Castro is the best OG on the board and may be gone by the 19th pick. In recent drafts NFL teams have started to put more imphasis on the OG position especially if they have the potential to slide to OT like Brandon Albert, Michael Oher and Mike Iupati.
  8. You actually have answered some of what I asked. The other thing I am trying to find out about is transferral of ownership which in essence would mean that Virginia would step down as CEO and someone else would take the helm preferably George and not Mikey. The problem I have with this report is that it makes this family look like a bunch of morons if they didn't form a corporation to allow a more modern approach to business. Unless Virginia is trying to avoid a power strugglea and hold on to her dad's legacy I can't see why this family wouldn't set up the Bears as a true business corporation. Then again they also have had the smallest NFL stadium built in the last 40 years. If they do have to sell the team I do believe I read where the next highest share holder would have first crack at a purchase and I believe that its a guy named McKenna( don't know if the first name is Pat or Andy).
  9. Steve Spurrier has never had a WR at any school he coached at(Duke, Florida and South Carolina) that has the physical tools and potential of Jeffrey. BTW Sidney Rice who played QB for Spurrier isn't doing to bad when healthy. I know you already know how I feel about this kid ,I just had to learn how to spell his name.lol

    Tice Interview

Tice actually was decent at TE and played with the Vikings and Seahawks. I remember him being a decent redzone target but he was considered a blocking TE.
  11. Is this the same Jimmy Raye that has interviewed for the HC job at the same time when Jauron was hired? I never knew he was a personnel man but if he is interviewing for the passing coordinator job that makes sense.
  12. I have a question that I thought a lot of these families do when they own companies or corporations. Can you transfer ownership to another family member to avoid the hassles of estate taxes before a death puts everything in probate? I not sure how the transfer of power went down with the Steinbrenners and the Yankees. I also remember De Bartolo transfering ownership of the 9ers to his sister who still currently owns the team when he was going through a gambling scandal. So why can't the McCaskeys do this ?
  13. Do you think he had a hand in recruiting Roy Williams here? The way he acted during TC about the demotion of Knox was a little unprofessional also. Drake was not here at the begining of Lovie's tenure but he came between his top pupil and his last draft prospect. Roy Williams and Limas Sweed. I do belieeve he was here long enough to have had time with all the recievers the Bears have drafted under Lovie and JA except one Jamin Elliott. So Justin Gage ,Bobby Wade,Bernard Berrian, Airese Curry,Mark Bradley, Devin Hester(drafted as a DB), Marcus Monk, Earl Bennett, Derek Kinder and Jauquin Iglesias. All I know is that when the Saints pick a Marques Colston in the 7th round and develop him why can't we have one of these 11 guys drafted become a number one like him. Lets also take into consideration no matter what rookie WR it was he never saw the field his first year. Berrian,Bradley,Bennett and Iglesias all basically were redshirted. When you see undrafted Sazenbacher see the field from day one in what is supposedly a diificult offense to learn but Bennett couldn't see the field in Ron Turner's WCO. Who do you point the finger at?
  14. Jason the only thing I can think of when you say screwed up draft position is that whether it was the 4th pick or the 31st pick JA was making it and this team was screwed when he was making the picks. BTW after the 09 season draft position didn't really matter because they had no first or second round pick and then used the 2 3rds on Gilbert and Iglesias. This is what was provided for the guy you just dropped 2 first rounders on. The offensive picks in that draft were Iglesias,Knox and Derek Kinder all WRs.The following year they had no first or second also with one of the picks on Cutler and the other on Gaines Adams. Lovie sucks at game management issues, picking coordinators and actually saying something that means anything at a press conference but when you have a GM that constantly makes picks or trades that handcuffs the roster, some how I believe his line of crap to the players must be pretty affective because these players will go all out in meaningless games at the end of the season for him. BTW if Ruskell gets the job I will throw up for sure.
  15. This is along my line of thinking but my problem is after the top 3 LT prospects Kalil,Martin and Reiff there isn't a clear number 4 IMO and there is a drop off in talent. So if the Bears have there heart set on OL at 19 the next 2 best are OGs De Castro and Glenn. FSU's Sanders and Ohio ST's Adams are the next 2 OTs depending on what you like. The top 3 OT prospects are expected to be gone in the top15 picks so that means somebody is going to drop and some position will get overlooked. With Tice submitting the grocery list Floyd or Jeffrey would fit what he has had in the past and bigger mauling type OL would also be one of his preferences. And like Jason says if neither scenario plays out BPA( preferably a top LB or S prospect). This will be an interesting offseason for all of us and trying to pin point where the team will go may be an unknown.
  16. The problem with a 1st round OT is that at 19 the Bears would be in line to pick the 4th best OT if most mocks follow true to form and have Kalil,Reiff and Martin going of the board prior to the Bears pick. What looks like the key positions that may affect the draft early are CB and DE. The wildcard player is RG3.He is the subject of quite a few rumors for trade up scenarios. There are quite a few DLs with first round grades and I wouldn't be surprised if someone slipped to the Bears pick. I'm hoping the next GM tries to address the Bears' biggest needs via FA. For once I would like the Bears to be able to take the highest rated player on the board and not reach for a need.
  17. Talent evaluation was the rally cry from Ted Phillips and Gearge McCaskey for the new GM.
  18. The only restriction placed on the new GM will be that Lovie will be the HC in 2012.
  19. The current press conference has Ted Phillips sounding defiant and also basically saying that Lovie will remain as coach and Ruskell will head the scouting operations.

    Jerry Gone

Me hears she loves Lovie. BTW I have a Virgie I work with who has been with our company for years and needs to ride off into the sunset also.
  21. Thank You. With a lot of former HCs on staff the stubborness has risen to an all-time high. Be it Martz,Marinelli, or Tice they all were a tad stubborn this year and with 2 of them on the same side of the field I believe that contributed to some of the problems the offense had.
  22. QB coach Shane Day is gone too. This reeks of the speculation that was rumored just a few weeks ago.

    Jerry Gone

In a perfect world the GM has the right to hire the coach but again this is the McCaskey/Halas world where at any moment the one in charge will swoop in and take control. Lets go back to when Jim Finks was the GM. This was a proven HOF GM and he was assembling some decent talent on this team when all of a sudden in 82 O'l Papa Bear out of nowhere named Buddy Ryan the defensive coordinator and then hired Mike Ditka as Head Coach. That is just as bad as what happened with Jauron and now with Lovie. Finks left after making the best draft of his tenure in 83 ( Covert,Gault,Thayer,Bortz,Duerson,Dent and Gayle), to be the Cubs president for a year and then went and rebuilt the Saints with Jim Mora. Jerry Vanisi then assumed the helm and made the Wilbur Marshall and Fridge picks then he was fired and Mikey started to put his hands all over the team with Bill Tobin assisting along with Rod Graves. After a series of odd decisions from giving the keys to the car to Wannie and then the Dave McGinnis hiring fiasco Virginia swooped in and banished Mike to his room and then Hatley was charged with trying to hire a coach after being a personnel man and scout most of his career. So we end up with Jauron not the first choice for coach. JA gets hired and he first pursues Nick Saban and settles for Lovie not his first choice for coach. Watching how he dismantled some of Jauron's roster for his personal style of player sent red flags up to me that he had a hidden agenda. When he was ready to put his plan in place and he couldn't get the guy he wanted that sent red flags up.Then you factor in all the failed draft picks and FA signings and there is no way he could continue on. The fact that this coach has a winning record with the bad personnel moves speaks to how he can con(motivate) the players into playing hard for him. He actually won a game with nothing on the line at the end of a disasterous season with a street FA at QB.I reluctantly say Lovie deserves a shot at finishing his contract but, if the potential hire wants to do hhis own deal then what?
  24. Balta I live in the suburbs of Chicago and the article you posted is from 9:57 am and I am off today and have been listening to the radio since 7am cst because of my work schedule which is 4am cst to 12 pm cst. I wake up at the same time evey day. So if you look at the time that is stamped on the Pompeii article then you will realize the point I'm making.

    Justin Blackmon

I have seen a draft site that has Jeffrey dropping to number 40 and that is nfldarftscout.com who originally had him in the top 5. Most of the negative vibe is about his route running which puts him in the Randy Moss mode in terms of what routes he prefers. When he is on the outside he is a stud but I can't say he is a stud in the middle of the field. This is coming from the professed president of The ALSHON JEFFRIES Fan Club if you don't believe me as Brian Bear who several occassions had to correct my spelling of his name. Alshon Jeffrey. Brian Bear who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? LOL
