  1. I think this sums it up perfectly. Angelo has said he will not go out and extend a guy with two years left on his contract. The only exception he has made to that policy is when he extended Urlacher.
  2. First off, welcome aboard. I just saw where Vasher did in fact leave camp. My guess is it has to do with him being the top CB on our team, yet he's paid less than both Tillman, RMJ and for all I know he's probably paid about the same as Wesley. Its a major loss and it actually upsets me that we are having so many problems with our young players not showing up to camp (Briggs, Vasher and than the older Thomas Jones). It seemed as if every off-season while other teams were having contract problems, the Bears were fine (JA has always taken care of the young players and offered them up extensions). Hopefully JA will be able to get Briggs and Vasher back into camp and locked up. As far as Jones goes, I am less concerned because he signed here as a FA and has no reason to whine and complain about his contract or the fact that he has a bit of pressure because he's playing in front of our top pick of 05 (Ced Benson).
  3. I liked the pick at the time, but Haynes really doesn't fit into Lovie's "speed" oriented defense, although I think he should provide good depth as a defensive tackle who could also split time at DE in a pinch. I still don't know if he'll make the final roster, but we will see. Anyway, here's the article:
  4. Wade Wilson Answers Your Questions Pretty good article talking a lot about Rex Grossman and our QB situation.
  5. Official Story @ ChicagoBears.com A guy I think could turn into a really nice blocking fullback who could ocassionally be a safety valve for Rex or Griese in time. Good to see we are getting guys signed quickly. This is our 3rd pick to sign.
  6. Entire List By Sports Illustrated Cedric Benson Running Back, Bears He worked out with the first team in minicamp, most likely because Thomas Jones skipped voluntary workouts. Jones will probably take back the starting role, but don't be surprised if Benson is on the field more often this year and starts to produce. Bears management wants the second-year back to succeed, and he has the talent to do so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thought it was interesting to see people outside of Chicago think relatively highly of Benson still. He really seems to be doing all the right things in what should be his first full off-season with the team.
  7. Larry Mayer on the official Bears site had an interesting tidbit on Reggie Harrel. I realize its only practice, but we have lacked a WR with some legit hands for some time. I assume with his size, he must not be the speediest WR, but if you can catch and run good routes, you can play a long time in this league (Jerry Rice). I should add I had never heard of him until I read this on the Bears site.
  8. A high 1st (do you mean top 10 or are you talking like 25-32). Maybe 25-32, but even thats an if. You got to remember that Shaun Alexander and Edgerin James were reportedly available for a 1st or 2nd round pick and no one bought. I think Jones with another 1300 yard season would be as attractive as those players, simply because of his contract (more affordable) but we'd be really lucky to get a 25-32 pick and I'd gladly take a 2nd rounder for him (now or next year if he keeps up his lousy attitude). The only thing I wouldn't like is we would be going with an unknown in Benson. I think Benson is talented as hell, but I'd hate for us to find out that he can't do it (because Peterson isn't an everydown back, he's a good backup who could start a game or two in a pinch, but not 16) and than mis out on the playoffs or not be able to reach the superbowl because of a bad rushing attack (I do believe we have a team capable of potentially making a lot of noise this season; obviously all would have to click, but the talent is there).
  9. Too bad he's turned into a total douche. Cause if he worked hard and came in and had another 1300 yard season, I'm sure someone would be willing to give him big bucks and a team would be willing to give us a high 2nd (maybe and I mean a big maybe a late 1st).
  10. I doubt that will be the case, but considering we didn't have a 1st round pick, we should be able to get everyone signed and in camp on time.
  11. Bears | Reed signs four-year deal Thu, 8 Jun 2006 17:44:01 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Chicago Bears have signed rookie OG Tyler Reed, a sixth-round draft choice, to a four-year deal worth about $1.6 million. The deal includes an $81,470 signing bonus. Bears | Anderson signs four-year deal Thu, 8 Jun 2006 17:40 8 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Chicago Bears have signed rookie DE Mark Anderson, a fifth-round draft choice, to a four-year deal. Terms of the deal are not yet available.
  12. It appears we are willing to trade Jones over this whole hubub, but it will take at least a high 2nd round draft pick. I would hate to see Jones go, but if he's going to be a prick about all this, I think its best to cut ties (if we can get value for him) and San Francisco could use a RB and would obviously have a nice pick to offer.
  13. Rumor is the Bears are interested in signing WR David Patten if he is released later this month by the Redskins (he is expected to be). Patten is a pretty quick WR and would be a nice fit. Apparently the Bears want to give Berrian/Bradley and whoever else the chance to emerge as the teams #2 WR, but they also want to have a veteran aboard. The same story mentioned Az Hakim as another possibility and he would come very cheaply. There are some doubts again on Currie, especially with him being injured again.
  14. I am looking forward and hoping that we will be able to finally see what Sexy Rexy (as MurcieOne calls him) can do in a full season.
  15. Thought this was good news (reported by Brad Biggs). I know a lot of people wanted the Bears to take a TE early in this years draft. I was one who thought this years draft had quite a few TE's who were overhyped because the WR pool was one of the worse in recent years. Now I'm not saying Vernon Davis isn't a stud, but I am saying that a lot of the other TE's were over-rated and I had no problem with the Bears passing them up (especially since all of them graded out so similarly). Clark appears to be in a lot better shape and he's going to have a 2nd full season with the same system (a rarity in Chicago) and we have the same coaching staff for another year which is another positive (although we lost a few guys to Jauron IIRC). I think we all know Clark has some talent but he's struggled with injuries. He will never be an explosive TE, but he's a pretty good blocker and has solid hands and decent speed and could and should be capable of being an average TE in this league to a little above average TE. During that time we can work on developing a pretty solid athlete like Tim Day.
  16. Figured I'd make a post stating a few guys that have suffered or are suffering injuries (Currie is also banged up). I think all of these guys were expected to miss time with the exception of Bryan Johnson, who is one of the more talented FB's in the league but can't stay on the field. I sure am glad we drafted a pretty good looking FB this year.
  17. I can't get excited, especially when I read things like this: This is yet another time where he's hurt. I realize its precautionary but when ISN'T he hurt. Sure he's hella fast, but can he even play football cause I've yet to even see him do anything in a Bear jersey (including practices).
  18. More MiniCamp News: Fantastic news, Bradley is already practicing after missing a good chunk of last year with an ACL injury. Bradley had really been gaining steam last season with Orton at the helm and will hopefully be able to have a complete off-season with us this year and go out and really help our WR depth this year. Those two are the main guys fielding punts right now. I assume Hester will take the job though, especially since Berrian will likely be getting a boatload of snaps on the offense.
  19. This is fantastic news. Really glad to have them both at camp and I hope they will remain with the team and come into halas hall from time to time before training camp (which is next on the list).
  20. I love me some Tom Brady. Best QB in the league
  21. My name is Jason and I'm 23 and a Bearaholic. I'm a big sports fan and I graduated from college last week and will begin my career as a CPA in September. My other teams of interest are the Sox, Bulls, Notre Dame, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Oh ya and I'm from Southern California and am still waiting by the phone to be called on to star in the upcoming season of Laguna Beach
  22. We have a lot of posters on this site, some more active than others, and I think that now, during the off-season (while things are slow) would be as good a time as any for everyone to quickly introduce themselves, how they found the site, how they grew up to like the Bulls, any suggestions, etc. We want to make everyone really comfortable here and YOU are the reason this place exists, so if you ever have any comments or suggestions for how to improve this place, don't hesitate to tell us.
  23. You'd think he realize that the reason he was able to do what he did last year was because he worked his ass off and took advantage of a guy that didn't get into camp on time (albeit a rookie, but Benson would have had a good shot at being the starter pr at least getting a lot more time had he got in ASAP). I'm hoping this isn't as bad as the media makes this out to be because Jones has always had a premium attitude and a great work ethic in this league.
  24. Nope, technically speaking no one is. However, the Bears have lost a couple TE's and my guess is we will give him every chance to break camp as our last TE and will continue to groom him into a potential starter a few years down the road. The progress reports have said that Desmond Clark has been producing very well and seems to be better grasping Turner's system. Clark has long had the talent, but has had trouble staying healthy. He's a good blocking tight end and can get open, but he has had some bouts with fumbles and drops.
