Rams | Pace released Tue, 10 Mar 2009 13:48:03 -0700 The St. Louis Rams have announced they have released OT Orlando Pace. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do we look at him so we have a veteren in place and maybe bring someone in thru the draft to learn under him until they are ready to take over the reigns as he probably only has a couple of years left in him anyways?

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2008/01/be...nning_back.html Bears eyeing CFL running back? Could the Bears be looking to the North for the first person to provide competition general manager Jerry Angelo has promised for running back Cedric Benson? The Metro News of Toronto reports that the Bears and New York Jets have offered contracts to running back Joe Smith, of the British Columbia Lions of the CFL. Smith set a Lions’ franchise record with 1,510 yards this past season, scoring 18 touchdowns. In two seasons with BC, he’s totaled 2,397 yards with 27 scores and a 5.4-yard per carry average. Smith originally was an undrafted free agent from Louisiana…

ESPN and the Sun Times did a bit of Salary Cap work for the NFC North. Below are the figures for the four teams: Detroit: $26.8 million Minnesota: $20.4 million Green Bay: $19.09 million Chicago: $17.4 million These numbers do not reflect cap credits each team will get, including as much as $9m we are due to receive in credit for CB Marcus Hamilton. $9m for Hamilton? Wow. So we are looking at about $26M, and you can bet the others will be due increases also. What I didn't feel was mentioned much though was how each team is set up entering FA in terms of current players the team needs to sign. The bears have the following players due to hit …

With Tait's retirement looming, we are looking at approx 32 million to use in free agency. That number could increase if some cuts are made. Another scenario that makes this money huge is that we have no big name FA's to re-sign. I have big on re-signing St. Clair. I'm no longer on the bandwagon for signing him no matter what. If he can't be had for a decent price before FA begins, it's time to roll the dice. Who I like: Khalif Barnes. He had a down year, but didn't all the Jags. He's young and has shown his talent. He's the best remaining OT out there and provides us great flexibilty. Next up is the WR's. Gotta go Houshmandzadeh here. Orton needs a #1…

  6. McCaskey was on radio (today I think) and indicated based upon his discussions with Pace and Fox that they are still a ways away and this will be an extended process to rebuild the franchise from where it was and was going to take multiple more years. With that in mind, I think it makes it even more likely that you can't write-off the QB position for the Bears. It also points out why the Bears should be targeting as many potential playmakers as they could possibly find and when it comes to FA be picky that whomever you sign, either let it be a guy who is undervalued who you think has more upside than indicated or be someone young enough that fits into your longer term pl…

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000067...n-longterm-deal It is now close to crunch time and we'll soon know what happens. Based on this report it seems Jeffrey's agent has released that the Bears are not offering anything close to what Jeffrey wants. It appears the Bears are settled in around $12mil/yr and Jeffrey wants much more. I presume that is around $14mil/yr. Earlier in the offseason I put Jeffrey's value around $12mil/yr but these things often take on odd trajectories. I don't see Jeffrey belonging among the top 5 at all (obviously he's there at the moment based on the Franchise deal). I think he belongs somewhere among 6-10. Hilton sits at th…

    1. I can't believe Soldier field is packed. There doesn't seem to be an empty seat. Unbelievable for a pre-season game. 2. Tonight our ST's is the weakest link. That's awesome. 3. DA & Riddeau appear to be our #3 & #4 receivers. 4. Forte was a monster but I'd have like to have seen Kevin Jones with the #1's. 5. We need to keep Rashied Davis at the bottom of our roster. I've said this all along: He's a great #5. 6. To hell with Basinez. We need to give Hanie as many reps as possible. I hope he finishes the game. IMO it would make sense to put Basinez on the practice squad. Assuming he's eligible. 7. The most awesome p…

    1. The Bears are going to make a serious push at Vincent Jackson. While you might be saying "wow, what a great source you have," it's believed to be a potential upset inside the Bears organization if he doesn't end up as a Bear. They're going to make every effort to have him wearing a Bears jersey next year. 2. This isn't really anything new, but they probably won't be making a push for Mario Williams. Their goal is to add a former 3-4 OLB, like Kamerion Wimbley, as the DE opposite of Peppers, sign Jackson, and go after a veteran OL in FA. Wimbley made a little more than $9m last year, so look for his deal with the Bears (if he signs here) to be around $7.5m. 3.…

What if the coaches said, as others here have, that there is a decent amount of young talent on the team? That they just need good coaching? Suppose they think Paea will be stout enough for the NT spot, and the combo of Young, Sutton, Ferguson, Allen, etc. is enough for the DL? Suppose they think SMC is great at his natural position, and Bostic/Greene are perfect for the other two holes in the 3-4, with Briggs filling the last spot? They realize the need at FS, but like the scondary otherwise...and dislike small school safeties. I present you with the anti-Lovie draft, where they eschew the weakness and supplement the strength. 1. Trade back and get Landon …

Frustrating. For the second week in a row we've turned victory into defeat. This one was worse because you can't pin it specifically on one guy fumbling away his only two catches. This game came down to a few things: * Bad play calling and/or execution. We can't seem to gain those few yards we need on third down to extend our offensive series. Leaving just enough time on the clock for Griese to lead them down for the tying score. * Bad luck. There were a few opportunities we had on tipped balls where we were inches from making yet another pick. Either of these could've ended it right there, on the spot. * Stupidity combined with poor officiati…

How has nobody posted this yet? Here's what Mike Florio from PFT has to say: "Cut last week by the Jets, veteran cornerback Lito Sheppard is looking for a new home. We're told that two teams are in the mix for his services. Per a league source, the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears have expressed interest. To date, no visits have been scheduled."

Select two options from the poll. What are the top two team needs?

  19. Familiarity with Fox, great age so you would feel more comfortable giving him the money, etc. Allows you to focus on BPA and really shore up a major need position in the secondary. Pair him with Mundy / Vereen and maybe Gholson (Ex 49 er safety who will likely be cut by Tampa).

Killing time watching some video of safeties and figured I'd share my thoughts. Collins of course is a good player just don't think he's worthy of a top 10 pick. If we pick a safety I don't think it will happen until Rd 3 at the earliest and likely on day 3. I just watch some games on Draft Breakdown and read profiles. I'm off the Damarius Randall (ASU) bandwagon. He has good athleticism and coverage skills but he's soft and misses too many tackles. The number one skill I want from a safety is the ability to tackle. Mike Brown was slow but you knew if it was just him back there he'd make the tackle. Jacquiski Tartt…Samford. For his size/speed combi…
