This is a great first test with some joint practices. Those are always fun to see. Miami is very similar to the Bears, they finished 10-6, had a top 10 defense and a top 20 offense. The Bears had a slightly better defense and slightly worse offense. I think we have the edge on both sides of the ball this year. I would take the Bears units every time, thoughts? How about we send Cutler to Cincinatti for Palmer and their first round pick (number 4 overall)? Then we draft AJ Green at #4. Palmer won't play for Cincinatti anymore--he said he'd retire before he played there again. He could be posturing, but who knows. Cincinatti is thought to be looking for a qb at #4. In my opinion, Cutler doesn't have the accuracy or decision-making needed to get our team a Lombardi. I don't know that Palmer does either, but I think Palmer's strengths (timing throws, accuracy, decision-making) mesh with Martz's system better than Cutler's strengths (cannon arm, mobility). Regardless of what we feel about the 3 picks there is one intangible to add to this mix and that is the Marshal trade. 1st Rd DE/OLB Not necessarily a scheme fit but this kid may force the Bears to diversify their scheme more. 2nd Rd WR Emery seems to like big physical WRs and gets himself one here and gives Cutler another weapon for his 29th B-day. 3rd Rd WR/SS Jay gets an engagement gift and Lovie gets his annual safety. It is obvious that the SF roster has more talent than ours does. We won today because the coaching ghost of Tony Dungy is haunting Halas Hall. Eburflus is an even better Lovie Smith. SF beat themselves with penalties, while we played clean. We worked for turnovers. We stayed with the running game LONG past the time when Nagy would have panicked, and many coaches would have gone into desperation mode. We kept our coverage rule breaking route combinations up our sleeve until the 4th quarter, kept it close and then played the cards Nagy would have tried in the first quarter. JA said last year they were happy with the Oline unit as a whole and that it would take time for them to gel as a unit. Everyone else has been calling for an upgrade to he Oline for the last 4 to 5 years. The last decent oline we had was 06 when Thomas Jones and Benson had a good year. Emery takes over and the only big thing that has been done was the Marshal trade. Two things that we know- Williams and Carmi are coming back. This will help the oline unit as a hole.
